....Christie, who is the de facto head of the the Newark Public School system (a system so broken that it was taken over by the state government a few years back) hands off control of the system to Newark's mayor Cory Booker, who announces a new schooling plan which holds everyone - teachers, parents, students - accountable for education. In walks Mark Zukerberg with $100 million in Facebook cash to help make it happen.
Colorblind bi-partisanship involving disempowering the teacher's union and empowering the private sector to help repair our failed education system. Wow.
Oh my - how will the Obami spin this? I have the feeling, having seen what it's like to be on the receiving end of Chris Christie's blunt criticism, that they will hesitate to provoke the Big Man. Will they jump on Cory Booker - possibly the only Democrat in the nation right now who actually has a future (I've written of him favorably here and here) - and "Uncle Tom" him a la Colin Powell and Condi Rice?
Oh, what a quandary...
Best line in the video below - when asked by Oprah "why Newark", Zukerberg motions towards Christie and Booker and says, "Because I believe in these guys...":
