Obama's "Peace Process": Epic Fail

A smart president, you know, someone really smart, not just told they were smart, and filled with hubris, would avoid the Israeli/Palestinian conflict like the plague. Arm Israel, and let the good guys fight the bad guys. Done. But no - Obama is so smart, he can get the two sides to resolve millennium-old enmity by dint of of a wave of his magic hand.

Apparently, the president woke up one day and decided it was time for an Israel/Palestinian summit. Why? At the current time the two sides have little to talk about. But maybe - like health care reform - this is something Barack Obama just wants, reality and the wishes of the affected parties be damned. Unfortunately, Obama cannot just jam this down the throats of the Middle East combatants the way he does with socialist legislation. He'll try - try to jam some unsavory deal down the throats of the Jews, anyway - but he'll fail.

Based on the rhetoric from the Palestinians,
he's already failing spectacularly:

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in a Monday night interview with Palestinian news source Ma'an that "Israel was free to call itself the Israeli Zionist Jewish Empire."

The PA leader made cynical remarks to Maan shortly after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called upon Abbas to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

Sounds like a real peace partner to me. But maybe - since Barack Obama sees the world in the similar way to Abbas - the president does see him as a valid partner. More valid than the Jews, who - as per Obama - are not allowed to build homes in their biblical capital of Jerusalem (mosques on Ground Zero are OK, though). Abbas is with Obama 100% on this:

Abbas added that negotiations would only continue under a settlement freeze. If the moratorium was extended for one month, he would remain in peace talks for one month, he said.

When these talks fail, it seems as if Obama and Abbas have already agreed to blame Israel. Maybe Obama can then refer to Israel as "the Israeli Zionist Jewish Empire."

I'm sure, behind closed doors, he has called them worse...
