Clueless. Utterly, Completely, 99% Clueless....

I'm talking about Barack Obam's attempt to co-opt "Occupy Wall Street' and ride it to re-election.  I have a better chance of straddling a  rocket ship and riding it to the freaking moon.

In a Sunday speech dedicating the new Chinese-designed memorial to Martin Luther King, Jr., Obama signaled his support for progressive groups protesting in New York City and elsewhere.

That afternoon in a remark that reflected the protesters’ chosen language, White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the president will work to ensure the “interests of 99 percent of Americans are well represented” in government.

On Friday, Obama’s chief political adviser said his campaign would leverage the public’s anger at Wall Street to slingshot Obama — and his top Wall Street aides — back into the White House for a second term.

“We intend to make it one of the central elements of the campaign next year,” David Plouffe, Obama’s chief political advisor, said in a Washington Post interview.

Great plan!  Too bad it has zero to do with reality. The Hill:

In the minds of likely voters, Washington, not Wall Street, is primarily to blame for the financial crisis and the subsequent recession.
The movement appears to have struck a chord with progressive voters, but it does not seem to represent the feelings of the wider public.
The Hill poll found that only one in three likely voters blames Wall Street for the country’s financial troubles, whereas more than half — 56 percent — blame Washington.

Moreover, when it comes to the political consequences of the protest, voters tend to believe that there are more perils than positives for Obama and the Democrats.
A plurality believe that the Occupy Wall Street movement will hurt Democrats and Obama in the 2012 election....

Why?  Oh:

....the American Nazi Party issued an official endorsement of the Occupy Wall Street protest movement on Sunday afternoon. The announcement put the organization, a self-described ‘National Socialist’ political party, in company with the Socialist Party USA, which explained its own support for the left-wing protesters in a nationwide conference call last Tuesday night, crediting organized labor with the protests’ strength and sophistication to date

But don't worry - you'll change your mind once Obama's taxpayer-funded bus tour comes rolling into your town:

In a call previewing Obama’s upcoming bus tour through North Carolina and Virginia, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that....while on the trip, Obama will make it clear that he is fighting to make certain that the “interests of 99 percent of Americans are well represented” — the first time the White House has used the term to differentiate the vast majority of Americans from the wealthy.

In other words, Obama is betting his political life that there are enough folks like our sign-holder above to get him re-elected, and he is going to pander to them in order to rally them behind his campaign.  Clueless.  And perhaps just a bit vindictive.

What - not the change you were hoping for?
