New York's accidental governor, David Paterson - he of the one good eye, primarily used to keep a look-out for potential mistresses - made the national news back in September when the Kingmaker himself, Barack Obama, told him to step off in 2010:
National Democratic Party leaders have asked Gov. David Paterson to consider withdrawing from the 2010 governor's race, according to two senior New York Democratic advisers.
The New York Times, which originally reported the request on its Web site, said that it was President Barack Obama who asked Paterson to withdraw.
But Paterson, perhaps sensing the national mood better than your common D.C. Democrat, is flipping the bird to O and the party, and has every intent of running again. In fact, whatever doubts he had were apparently erased by Obama's miserable showing (by proxy) in last Tuesday's election:
Paterson, whose popularity currently hovers in the 20 percent range, was seriously wounded when Obama let it be known he didn't want Paterson to run because Republicans like Rudy Giuliani consistently beat him in the polls. But Obama's recent lack of success in backing local candidates, including New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, has empowered Paterson.
"The President went to New Jersey five times for Corzine and wasn't able to turn that around, so I think here in New York, New Yorkers know everything is local," said [Bill] Lynch.
But that's not all Paterson is doing. He's bringing on board campaign powerhouse Harold Ickes, who was former President Bill Clinton's Deputy Chief of Staff.
And here comes the campaign ads - with a surreptitious knock at Obama? The New York Post reports:
Gov. Paterson kicks off his long-shot 2010 election campaign today with a two-commercial, $500,000 television blitz in which he challenges those saying he shouldn't run.
"Some say I shouldn't be running for governor," Paterson says in one commercial before he proceeds to outline what he says are his accomplishments since Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a hooker scandal in March 2008.
A second ad outlines Paterson's biography and concludes, "Gov. Paterson. The people first."
So Paterson does not fear the wrath of the Obami...and why should he? It's all about the underdogs this time around, and Paterson can play that card - blind, black, and shoved into the spotlight - with ease. He sees Hoffman almost win as a third-party populist, he sees Christie win despite being out-spent and out-Obama-ed....why should he fold on Barack's orders? Hey, by the time the 2010 election rolls around, who's to say that the president won't have a lower favorable rating than Paterson?
And how influential was The Obama Touch in New Jersey? Can you say, not at all?
Votes for Democrat Jon Corzine in Newark, New Jersey in 2005: 39,573.
Votes for Corzine in Newark in 2009, two days after Obama hosted a rally for him there: 35,669.
Votes for Jon Corzine in Camden County in 2005: 76,955.
Votes for Jon Corzine in Camden County in 2009, two days after Obama hosted a rally for him there: 66,996.
If Paterson and his 20% approval ratings are not afraid of Barack Obama, why in the world would anyone else be?

Pelosi's Health Care Death March
Jeez, Nancy, why the rush to vote on a massive health care nationalization bill this Saturday? I mean, Mr. Obama promised us "the most transparent administration ever", so why would you be debating and voting on a $1 trillion+ bill on a Saturday, when few will be home to watch it or protest?
And what about that promise to post the bill online for 72 hours before allowing it to be voted on? Oh yeah, that:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was "absolutely" committed to doing so.
On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD:
TWS: Madam Speaker, do you support the measure to put the final House bill online for 72 hours before it's voted on at the very end?
PELOSI: Absolutely. Without question.
Hmmm...is she afraid of what will happen when her troops leave for a Veteran's Day recess, and they face their constituents - you know, the people they are paid to -and sworn to - represent? Or is she afraid that the results of this week's election will seep in past her frantic spin, and her soldiers will realize that voters threw out not only Democratic public officials, but pulled the lever against the very type of government that Pelosi is about them to vote for?
Or maybe San Fran Nan is afraid the polls will get worse? Worse than this poll?
Forty-nine percent oppose the health care reform proposals in Congress compared to 39 percent who favor them, a negative turn since the beginning of October...
Nancy is leading her men off a cliff, on a Bataan Death March that most will not survive. Some Democrats are realizing this and are getting nervous, hence Nancy's attempt to force the vote this weekend. Why? Destroying more jobs cannot wait until Monday?
Nancy has declared she doesn't care about losing seats on this issue. That's obvious. She may not care much - or believe - that she will lose her majority status over her radical health care agenda. That seems likely as well.
Because so much of this is about Nancy. She wants to say she socialized medicine in America, so she will have the ultimate liberal feather in her cap, and that when she travels overseas or in her rarefied elite circles, she will not have to put up with the coastal highbrows and foreign intelligentsia chastising her over her nation's "medieval" approach to medicine.
It's not about the voters. It's not about her caucus. It's not about what is best for a nation. And lord, it's not about doing anything to remedy the 10.2% unemployment rate.
It is about Nancy. And for the sake of her own vanity, she is willing to lead an entire party - and a nation - off a cliff.
We do not wish this lying, vain, ignorant woman well, even if she does help destroy the Democratic party. For it appears she may take all of us down with her on her quest for glory...

Putting The Fort Hood Massacre in Context
....as the media searches for excuses (bullying, prejudice, impending deployment) for Major Hasan's slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood yesterday, it's important to remember that similar, if less bloody, incidents have happened with increasing frequency of the past few years.
There was the attack on the Jewish center in LA just a few years back (he was "deranged"). There was the incident in North Carolina where a young Muslim ran a number of his fellow students with his jeep (he felt "isolated"). And of course, we have the famous DC sniper, due to die later this month - praise Allah - who's name just happened to be Muhammad.
And those are the civilian attacks. There was a recruiting station shot up late last year in Little Rock, there was the plot to murder soldiers at Fort Dix (which Keith Olbermann mocked, here - felling stupider than usual today, Keith?), and numerous other both known and unknown that were broken up.
The attacks contain a common thread: all were acts of rage committed by Muslims against innocent American civilians/soldiers. And yet the media refuses to connect the dots, instead frantically looking for excuses (even citing Major Hasan's extra weapons training as proof of his inability to handle guns as opposed to evidence that he was deliberately training for such an act) in an attempt to force Americans away from the obvious conclusions.
For better or worse, there was little surprise when the Ft. Hood gunman turned out to be a discontented Islamist, which suggests that Americans have drawn their own conclusions about the nature of Muslims in America. Maybe if the media would address the phenomenon honestly, instead of explaining it away with a thin gruel of excuses, the nation could come to grips with it, understand it, and perhaps prevent similar attacks in the future.
But by creating a fog around this and other similar incidents, the media lays the groundwork for what may be unnecessary societal retribution against one class of citizens, when it may only be a small subset that is truly dangerous. For this the media will blame rednecks, hicks, and Republicans, while again refusing to address the root cause of the problem - themselves.
And you can rest assured that Barack Obama will do nothing to make this situation any better...

Massacre At Fort Hood - a Jihad?
[updated below - "Authorities had concerns about suspect"? Gee, now you tell us]
OK, I'm going to update this when more info comes in, but right now I'm hearing that the one soldier captured was a Major Malik Nadal Hasan of Virginia, a convert to Islam who reportedly was unhappy about having to deploy (to Iraq? Afghanistan? )
Not at a TV, but I hear lots of newsmen and politicians are refusing to give out the name of the shooter. Guess they think us dumb folks will go into a redneck rage (just like after 9/11, right).
At least two others involved...is this homegrown or from the outside? I cannot imagine three soldiers going nuts and shooting up their fellow comrades without some serious ideological motivation...
But it's a religion of peace, right? The peace of the frickin' grave....
More to follow.....
UPDATE: I'll bet Keith Olbermann is enjoying this...from a speech given in May 2007, he mocks us soldiers by claiming "the people who are defending us" against the threat of terrorist attack are misguided or overzealous or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder".
He also mocked the arrest of the six Islamics who were planning to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey as unwarranted:
..the current "terror plot" unquote to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey, posed as pizza delivery men, were going to shut off power and who decided to train and take videos of themselves in the Poconos and then have the video transfered to DVD at Circuit City. Anybody in the room see anything less than terrorizing (laughter), terrible in the plot or the individuals mentioned therein, anybody else but me see that and literally that's it, that's the whole thread, if it doesn't add up it's incumbent on all of us to just say you know the math just doesn't work here.
UPDATE II: AP reports Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at the base...Authorities killed the gunman, and apprehended two other soldiers suspected ....
Let's get the names of the mystery two...

UPDATE III Lone gunman?

Army major was about to deploy overseas, though it was unclear if he was headed to Iraq or Afghanistan and when he was scheduled to leave.
Military officials say Hasan, 39, was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July. The officials, who had access to Hasan's military record, said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed....
(did he blame America for that?)
UPDATE V: Authorities had concerns about suspect
The Army psychiatrist suspected of carrying a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, had come to the attention of authorities six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats, law enforcement officials said Thursday.
Retired Army Col. Terry Lee told Fox News that he worked with Hasan, who had hoped Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Lee said Hasan got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars, and had tried hard to prevent his pending deployment.
Looks to me as if an excessively PC-military got its own soldiers killed...
UPDATE VI: He's alive!
The gunman, first said to have been killed, was wounded but alive and in stable condition under military guard, said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood. "I would say his death is not imminent," Cone said. Col. Ben Danner said the suspect was shot at least four times.
Oh, I am very interested in hearing what Mr. Hasan has to say...
A Party Divided Cannot Stand
...and no, I'm not talking about the Republicans and the NY-23 race, where the party's choice of a wacko liberal doomed the district to be represented by a Democrat for the next 362 days. With ObamaCare coming up to a vote in about 15 minutes, he'll have ample opportunity to show if he stands with his constituents or his party....
I'm talking about the internecine warfare within the Democratic party - you know, the party that forced Joe Lieberman out because he only toed the line 99% of the time (and now may be the only man who can save us from ObamaCare - take that, says Joe !).
Those charming folks at MoveOn - the group that gave us "General Betray-Us" is targeting Democrats who do not fall in line behind that ever-so-popular trio of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama:
MoveOn.org is sending out emails today seeking more contributions for its campaign to defeat any Democratic senator who does not fully support Obamacare. Yesterday the left-wing activist group asked members to contribute "to a primary challenge against any Democratic senator who helps Republicans block an up-or-down vote on health care reform." Today, MoveOn reports that it has received $2 million in pledges in less than 24 hours. "It's a clear sign of how angry progressives would be at any Democrat who helps filibuster reform," MoveOn executive director Justin Ruben writes in the new email.
"The larger the war chest we can offer a potential challenger, the stronger the signal we'll send to conservative Democrats," Ruben continues. "So we're setting a huge new goal: $3 million in total pledges by the end of the week. That's plenty to launch a serious primary challenge."
MoveOn is already planning radio ads targeting Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu and Arkansas Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln over the health care issue.
Oh, I am sure MoveOn can pull this off - they did in Connecticut just a few years back. But despite winning the battle, they did not gain the seat, and ornery Joe is now the biggest foe to their liberal program, and he's got an axe to grind. A really big axe. And nobody can blame him if he's itching to swing it...
So what will MoveOn accomplish if they can unseat incumbents and replace them with purebred liberals in the general election? More Republican victories, that's what. If you can't take a message out of New Jersey - where the electorate voted against the very same liberal system that the Democrats and Moveon are hell-bent upon imposing on the nation - then my guess is you haven't been listening much to the people you claim to represent at all. There is only you, and your dogmatic fealty to liberalism.
So sad to see the once-resurgent Democratic party fall on its sword after a few "inconsequential" election defeats; don't they know that the people want "moderation" and "a big tent"; and that these battles for ideological purity are poisonous and will rend you asunder, forcing a disgusted public to avert its eyes and vote for the other party?
Well, I guess the Democrats are about to be reduced to a "rump party" who will always rue the day - November 3rd, 2009 - when inter-party ideological warfare reduced them from majorities to after-thoughts...

Obama's Bus Rolls Over Jon Corzine!
With a set of big, fat tire tracks tattooed across his back, Jon Corzine now joins some pretty elite company...Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, Austan Goolsbee, Chas Freeman, the Jews...people who were all once useful to him but have now long outlived their primary purpose - to further the ambitions of one Barack Hussein Obama:
The people of New Jersey know the cost of this economic crisis...But in Jon, you have a governor who has built consensus to help families get through it, while putting the state on a path to long-term prosperity."
-Barack Obama, Tuesday, August 4th, 2009
"He's one of the best partners I have in the White House. We work together. We know our work is far from over."
-Barack Obama, in New Jersey, November 1st, 2009

"Just ignore that revving engine you hear behind you...."
And on election night, as the results grew clear? We got this:
President Obama is not planning to watch Tuesday nights election returns, Obama aides Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod tell CNN.
Obama is more likely to watch Tuesday night’s Chicago Bulls game than any political coverage, according to Axelrod.
The president’s senior staff have also decided not to hold a watch party to keep an eye on election returns as they come in....
Don't feel bad, Crooked Jon. You're just another frog that was bitten by the scorpion...

Churlish Corzine Projects Purile Rage Towards Mom
In the "now I know why I had such visceral dislike for this douchebag" file, we have Jon Corzine, who, during his concession speech last night, snarked a bit about his mom:
In making his concession speech, Democratic governor Jon Corzine was consoling his followers when he said, “My mother is probably the only one that’s happy tonight. She’s a Republican. She’s 93 years old so, we’re not going to worry too much about that.”
The line got a big laugh.
Michelle Malkin interpeted it as Corzine...
...dismissing her politics as a function of her age (she is 93). So, he insults fat people on the campaign trail and old people while making his concession address.
Stephanie Gutmann saw it thusly:
...the Corzine remark mirrors a callousness, a coarse attitude about the “dispensability” of the aged, that one sees in the debate over health-care reform.
Me, I saw it as a sudden show of a repressed rage, a moment of frustration unleashed, where he lashed out at his opponent through someone he knew was safe: his own mother.
Regardless - what an asshole.
Jeez, how much of that stench around here was caused by that douchebag, anyway?

The New Jersey Election: National in Scope
Yeah, the Democrats have been singing from the same playbook all day today - politics are local, the candidates were weak, Obama was disinterested, or - if, like Nancy Pelosi, you want to go the Baghdad Bob route - the Democrats were actually the big winners last night because they picked up a House seat (for 12 months, anyway).
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. New Jersey exposed a major weaknesses in the Democratic/Liberal program, which may have only a year left to live.
Look, folks - Corzine turned New Jersey into a laboratory for liberalism. Each economic crisis was met with massive tax hikes, assets of great value (the toll roads) were willing to be pawned off cheaply for a quick fix, businesses were hit with fees, taxes, and bizarre regulations (forced Family Leave) that left then unable to survive or unwilling to expand, income and resources (thinks school dollars, road repair, and tax revenue) were redistributed from the middle-class to the poor, all while spending rose at an unbelievable rate for a state in a recession.
Sound like the governing philosophy of a nation you might now? Regardless, New Jersey's residents, after a decade as liberal lab rats, got tired of being the victims of a misguided political philosophy - confiscation and redistribution masquerading as kindness. In a state where there are 600,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans, a 100,000+ vote victory for Chris Christie is a repudiation not just of the candidate, but of his governing philosophy as well.
Yes, Christie did not campaign against Obama, he campaigned against Corzine. But on each of Obama's many trips to New Jersey, he praised Corzine's handing of New Jersey's economic crisis as well as his governing philosophy (no surprise, as they are virtually identical). And Chris Christie was no RHINO; he offered a clear contrast in how he would handle the state's economy - lowering taxes, protecting businesses, reducing spending, and limiting the influence of the unions.
New Jersey - Blue Jersey! - chose the Republican vision of government over the Democratic model, with independents breaking for Christie 58% -32%. If the rest of America - most with less Democrats, all with large amounts of indies - also rejects the liberal Corzine/Obama model of government management, the Age of Obama will come crashing down to an early curtain. First in 2010, with the remainder cleaned up in 2012, if necessary.
There hasn't been such a rapid fall to the bottom since the Titanic hit the ocean floor almost a century ago.
And those Democrats mentioned above, all claiming the New Jersey means nothing to them?
Mere attendants, re-arranging the deck chairs...

New Jersey Election Analysis: Two Counties That Shook The State
The Democrats in New Jersey - an arrogant bunch if there ever was one - are waking up this morning, and perhaps still not believing last night was not just a bad dream, are likely going to their comforting mainstream media sources who will tell them, like an overprotective mommy, that it is all OK, they are still the best, and everyone still loves them, and if they don't - well, they're not very nice people, are they?
But there was a bit of a sea change in New Jersey last night, and it can be found clearly in two counties: Monmouth and Middlesex. These are central New Jersey counties, very multicultural, very middle-class, and with a higher percentage of Jews than most New Jersey counties.
And what happened here? Well, Mommouth went for John McCain in 2008, but just barely:
Republican - McCain 160,433 51%
Democrat - Obama 148,737 48%
And how did the electorate shift in last night's governor's race? Can you say...dramatically?
Republican - Christie/Guadagno 128,328 62.19%
Democrat - Corzine/Weinberg 64,315 31.17%
Now let's check out Middlesex, whose shifts might have been even more dramatic:
First, the 2008 results:
Democrat - Barack Obama 193,812 61%
Republican - John McCain 123,695 38.8%
One year later:
Democrat - Jon Corzine 75,200 44.21%
Republican - Chris Christie 81,947 48.17%
I don't necessarily expect the state Democrats to react to this, for the reason stated on top - Corzine's arrogance (he did not even have a concession speech prepared last night) has infected them, perhaps permanently.
But on the national level, Obama and the Dems had better wake up and smell New Jersey. I live on the Middlesex/Monmouth border, so I know better than any DC-based analyst what the story is. This is "professional" middle-class America - people who work in the city doing long hours and unbelievable commutes to provide for their families. These are small business owners and yes, even blue-collar workers - because when you need a toilet snaked, you still gotta call a plumber, and he's gonna charge you a smooth $100- to clean that mess up.
These people - my people - are scared. Scared of losing control of their health-care plans, scared of losing their homes to out-of-control tax increases, scared of losing their businesses to crushing federal mandates. And they came out last night and voted; voted overwhelmingly against the party they feel is putting their very way of life - a life they have spent decades to build - at risk.
National Democrats are well advised to take note of Middlessex and Monmouth Counties in Central Jersey. Because they - and their middle-class soulmates across America - will determine who control the Congress -and the national agenda - in 2010.
But there was a bit of a sea change in New Jersey last night, and it can be found clearly in two counties: Monmouth and Middlesex. These are central New Jersey counties, very multicultural, very middle-class, and with a higher percentage of Jews than most New Jersey counties.
And what happened here? Well, Mommouth went for John McCain in 2008, but just barely:
Republican - McCain 160,433 51%
Democrat - Obama 148,737 48%
And how did the electorate shift in last night's governor's race? Can you say...dramatically?
Republican - Christie/Guadagno 128,328 62.19%
Democrat - Corzine/Weinberg 64,315 31.17%
Now let's check out Middlesex, whose shifts might have been even more dramatic:
First, the 2008 results:
Democrat - Barack Obama 193,812 61%
Republican - John McCain 123,695 38.8%

FOX CALLS IT FOR CHRISTIE
Are we looking at a blowout? Two calls, by 10:20, on an election thatw as supposed to keep us up all night?
Chris Christie: Winning in ObamaLand?
It's only one country, but it's one that Obama carried nicely last year:
With 100 percent of precincts reported, Republican Chris Christie has won New Jersey's Gloucester County by about 2800 votes, a county that Christie Whitman lost in her 1997 reelection bid.
Obama carried this county by 12 percent last year.
Meanwhile, Intrade is offering shares of Corzine at 15, a drop of over 50% in less than an hour...
The tea leaves are looking good....

New Jersey Exit Polls: Independents Go For Christie Big-Time !
CNN exits polls tell us pretty much what a lot of the pre-race polling indicated: That independents were breaking hard for Christie:
In New Jersey, CNN's exit poll says Christie won independents 58-33 over Corzine, with indies making up 27 percent of the electorate.
Public Policy Polling notes that their final poll had Christie winning the independents by 23; the exit polls indicate Christie won them by 25. They interpret this as a sign that most Daggett supporters and undecideds went into the Christie pile. PPP's final poll put Christie up 6 overall.
Makes it harder for the Corzine crew to go the fraud route. They wouldn't just be angering Republicans, they would piss off the Great Middle as well. And who knows who we may take our rage out on next...

Obama: Aiding and Abetting Fraud in New Jersey
No surprise, being that Obama and Holder allowed the Black Panthers to intimidate Republican voters with truncheons last November:
...the Justice Department is going to have federal observers and Civil Rights Division staff in New Jersey, New York, and elsewhere to monitor the voting. I have already heard from numerous sources that these observers will not be reporting instances of voter fraud, nor will they be reporting instances of unrequested “assistance” being provided. So we cannot count on the Justice Department or any of its observers to stop the kind of fraud or intimidation that may occur in New York or New Jersey.
Corzine would rather rule a fail state than live in a democracy as a citizen. Obama, hell-bent on power, would rather corrupt democracy in the United States than allow an ally to face a well-deserved loss.
And you don't think Corzine's thugs know that they face no repecussions?
The streets of Newark are crawling with people in SEIU purple shirts. They are near polling places, placing campaign lit on cars, and all the kind of stuff. Big labor is heavily invested in a Corzine win and Corzine is dependent upon them for his GOTV so it is not surprising to us that they are out there, just that it took them this long....
More:
PolitickerNJ reports that Newark's North Ward and the South Ward are each reporting about 4,000 votes. They quote Rep. Donald Payne, a local Democrat, as saying it should be enough for a "narrow victory."
In other words, a Corzine loss narrow enough that they can cheat their way to victory.
Unbelievable. Never thought it could happen here....

New Jersey - Voters Find Out They Have Already "Voted"
Seems like ACORN and the SECIU have been quite active in the run-up to the governor's election, as voters are going to their polling places only to find out that - surprise, surprise - they have already voted via "mail-in ballots":
Here's the horror of this fraud being perpetrated by the Democratic party:
If Democrats have their wishes granted, there may be actual disenfranchisement; those provisional ballots cast by the real voters will be discarded in favor of forged absentee ballots.
It's gonna get ugly tonight...

New Jersey Unions To Get Out The Vote By All Means Necessary...
"We call it knock and drag," said Jim Williams, general president and director of organizing of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, with about 3,500 members in New Jersey. "We knock on the door and drag 'em out to vote."
...Labor union workers, many who said they were unemployed because there were "no jobs," showed up at rallies in places like Bayonne in Hudson County to pick up packets with home addresses of members mapped out and campaign literature to distribute.
I guess it's OK for unions to use violent imagery in their boasts about how they intend to get the vote out for their benefactor, Jon Corzine, because, well... they're Democrats, and the rules of decency and good behavior do not apply. Imagine if a Republican-oriented group were to use such a phrase; Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd would soil their panties on the spot.
Although the idea of unemployed thugs roaming the streets with names and addresses of citizens is not one that should endear many to their cause...unless, of course, a democracy based on reasoned discourse and honest elections is not your goal....

New Jersey Turnout Report #6: GOP Turnout Outpacing Dems?
...it appears that way, especially in the "swing" districts (neither fully Republican or Democrat) within the state. With a grain of salt, as this report is based on about six or so polling places in swing districts:
A trusted source tells me that as of noon, total turnout in the GOP the swing districts in NJ is significantly outpacing turnout in Democrat districts. The turnout ratio is not quite two to one, but it's not that far from it.
Now, this should NOT be interpreted as ipso facto evidence that Chris Christie is going to win. Democratic districts may have more voters show up later in the day. This isn't an exit poll, and we have no idea how the folks in any of these districts are voting; we just know that they're showing up and voting.
But, as of this morning, turnout was higher Republican areas of the state than in Democratic ones, and that has to make Chris Christie and his supporters feel like they're doing their jobs well...
The Democrats - especially in Newark, where turnout has been extremely light - are now claiming that they represent "working communities" where folks will most likely vote after 5PM. Maybe, but that's assuming that Republicans don't work, hence their early advantage.
Unlikely. And I bet more than a few Republicans will be voting tonight as well....

New Jersey Turnout Report #5: A Newark Nightmare for Democrats
How's that get-out-the-vote effort going in Newark, a Democratic stronghold and an area key to a Corzine victory?
Terribly. Not that they want to admit that, but the facts on the ground suck for Crooked Jon:
Overall turnout in New Jersey's largest city is hovering near 30% of where it was last year when Barack Obama ultimately racked over 77,112 votes, according to Democratic Party sources on the ground.
That is below the goal of 50% the Corzine campaign wants in Newark, where incumbent Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine won 39,573 votes in 2005.
A South Ward source says operations are "humming, not buzzing."
The Democratic incumbent's targeted Obama allies - so-called "surge voters" - are going to the polls, however, the response by regular registered voters in other South Ward districts is light so far, says the source.
In the Central Ward, morning results are less than 25% of turnout numbers achieved by this time last year, according to a Central Ward party
25-30% of 2008's turnout is simply not going to cut if for Jon Corzine. Again, this matches what we've been reporting all day: Brisk in the 'burbs, quiet in the cities....
That smell that's wafting past you right now? It's the ink drying on falsified absentee ballots...'cause that may be the only hope Jon Corzine has left...

Democratic-Funded Daggett Robo-Calls Continue !
Amazing - even after being busted for finanacing the faltering campaign of New Jersey independent Chris Daggett - and then lying about it - the state's Democratic party decided, "Ah, what the f*ck...it's not as if Eric Holder is gonna drag us away in handcuffs! " From Politicker NJ:
Controversial robocalls made by the Democratic State Committee that criticize Republican Christopher Christie and seek votes for independent Christopher Daggett continue to be made today. Democrats had initially denied they were responsible, but admitted last night that they were behind them.
Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-Morris Twp.) said he received one at his home within the last hour.
"I just got one of those pro-Daggett calls from the DSC," said Carroll. "I can only conclude that they are so ashamed of their own candidate that they cannot bring themselves to advocate for him directly."
The Christie campaign says that they have received reports of the calls being received by Republicans in other counties, including Union and Essex.
Down and dirty, folks - down and dirty....

New Jersey Turnout Report #4: Where Are The Democratic Hordes?
Dark blue Hoboken is looking...blue for Corzine, as even loyal Democrats seem unwilling to get out and vote for his sorry ass:
If Hoboken is navy blue, my ward is even more so. We vote the way the Democratic machine wants. One of the mayoral candidates actually has campaign posters showing herself with Corzine. I've been voting at the same polling place at roughly the same time for the last 12 years. No lines this morning at 7:15. I was number 43 an hour and fifteen minutes after the polls opened. There were fewer people than for the mayoral election last spring. In fact, it looked more like the school budget vote in April. Last November I waited over an hour and the place was a zoo.
So the suburbs are active, the cities are quiet. Bad, bad news for a Democrat....

New Jersey Turnout #3: The Suburbs Are Rising Up!
...ancedontal, and according to the emails being recieved by Jim Geraghty...here's a few:
live in Montclair, New Jersey, which is big-time Democrat country. I voted at 8 a.m. and I was the only one there. Last year, the line was 6 or 7 deep continually and there were lots of Obama supporters outside with shirts and posters. Nothing at all this year.
More:
I live in a small suburban Essex County town, Verona, which usually swings slightly Republican. In fact I can't remember the last time the town was over 50 percent Democrat. Even Obama slightly lost to McCain. Of course, Verona is a tiny town of around 13,000 people. When I voted this morning, before 10 a.m., the lady running the machine said she was very surprised at the amount of people who had voted already. She stated that I was the 115th person to vote on her station. There are probably about 10 or so voting places in Verona for reference.
My district used to be a long time Republican strong hold in Verona but some of the Montclair/NYC elites have moved in but I'd still say that the majority in that district are Republicans. In any event the high turnout seems like it could be a positive sign early in the day.

New Jersey Democrats Using Violent Felons to Get Out The Vote!
Terrified of losing a state where Democrats out-register Republicans by over 600,000, we now have union thugs agitating, ACORN members vote-stealing, and now - ex-gang members released from prison to canvass for the Democrats. Via Election Journal:
How would you like to be a New Jersey police officer and look out your window and see several known criminals, including a man you arrested several weeks ago and another who had just been released from prison for shooting a cop? And then find out that the men were sent into the neighborhood by the Democratic Party for GOTV operations - complete with lists of voters names, addresses and phones numbers!
That is what happened Sunday on a quiet street in Morris Township. The officer, who’s name we are with holding, specifically heard the men discussing that he was a police officer and that they now know where he lives. The officer confronted the men and they took off. He contacted the local police who responded and caught up with them and about a dozen other men a few blocks away. According to the police report, the men were known criminals and when asked why they were in the neighborhood they stated they were “campaigning for the Democratic Party.”
Here's a video of a terrified Morris County resident who met up with Corzine's thugs:
And believe it or not, this is not the first time New Jersey Democrats have used convicted hardcore felons as campaign aides:
According to this story on PolitickerNJ, the Bloods Street gang stole $6000 from the NJ Democratic State Committee through a check fraud scheme. NJ Democratic Party Chairman Joseph Cryan said “that checks were copied from payments sent out for the party’s 2006 field operation.”
For residents of New Jersey - How much is enough?

New Jersey Turnout Report #2: Randolph/Morris County
Out of Morris County:
I live in Randolph, Morris County. Always get to my polling place right at 6:00. Always the only one there. There were 15 cars in the lot when I got there.
When I got to my parking lot to get to NYC for work, the lot had 50% more cars than normal..
Similar to what I saw in Old Bridge this morning. Interesting....can they all be Corzine voters, filled to the brim with enthusiasm for their beleaguered candidate?
Ah...maybe...

New Jersey Turnout Report: Old Bridge, 6:45 AM
...active for 6:45 AM; perhaps equal to or greater than the presidential turnout I saw last year. Except there were no African-American voters visible (I didn't look under the curtains).
Now, to be clear, when I mean "active", I mean that I had to wait on line behind two people, as opposed to walking right into the booth. Most booths had about the same level of action. This, based on past voting experience, does in fact qualify as "active"...
Funny side note: Had to push the button almost six times on a local freeholder slate to get it to light up next to the Republican candidate. The Chris Christie button worked fine, though....for now...
I'll be updating here all day (as work permits) on the New Jersey races, and on NY-23. Those Virginia races look, thankfully, to be a lock.

It's Official: Corzine Paying Daggett To Stay In Race
[BUMPED; UPDATE AT BOTTOM: NJ DEMS CONFESS !]
As we expected, the Corzine campaign are pulling every dirty trick out of the Democrat playbook to get their boss re-elected (since he's long since realized there is zero case for it based on the merits).
We surmised a few days back that independent candidate Chris Daggett's mere existence in the campaign at this point was being paid for by Corzine, if not in cash, than in a job-to-be-named-later, something that Dagget himself did not deny. Well, here's some proof of that rotten pudding:
...in the final days of the campaign, it appears state Democrats are paying for robo calls supporting Independent Chris Daggett. First reported here, the robo calls attack Christie (but not Corzine) and promote Daggett. At the end of the call, it is mentioned that the calls are paid for by a “project of the NJSDC.” No idea what that acronym stands for, but New Jersey State Democratic Committee, isn’t too big of a stretch.
More interesting is the fact that the return number on the calls is the same number that was used to promote Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley’s election in closing days of the 2006 race.
Not a bad idea by Corzine - finance a second opponent to split the 60% of New Jersey resident who are steadfastly against him. Not sure if it's quite legal, but in dirty Jersey, apparently anything goes...
And with the Obama campaign now running the Corzine campaign, the fact that ACORN is trolling the inner cities to commit voter fraud is no surprise either:
More telling that the fix is in, however, is the sudden appearance of ACORN on the scene...
GOP officials recently received a phone tip from a hospital in Newark, reporting that people in ACORN t-shirts were in the facility signing up and collecting absentee ballots. New Jersey law allows anyone to take up to 10 absentee ballots at a time. The tipster reported seeing individuals in the ACORN shirts entering the hospital with blank absentee ballots and leaving with completed ballots.
There are reports out of Camden, New Jersey that voters are discovering that absentee ballots have already been submitted under their name. They did not authorize these ballots. Early reports suggested that the number of absentee ballots ‘requested’ in Camden city is higher than in any previous election. This will no doubt spark confusion on election day.
This is your Democratic party, America. Using the good names of the weak and the poor to commit voter fraud to keep themselves in office despite what appears to be overwhelming sentiment that it is time for Corzine to go.
Democracy is only a tool for the Democrats to obtain power. Once in, they will use any means necessary to keep it. Thuggery, crime, fraud, down to the exploitation of the poorest members of society.
Will Crooked Jon get away with it? We'll see tomorrow...
UPDATE 552P: The Democrats confess. Ugly:
The Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters that slams Republican Chris Christie and promotes independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett.
A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon.
Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Christie vs. Corzine: More Polling Madness !
For what it is worth:
Monmouth University/Gannett has Corzine up by 2 with Daggett at 8 percent; SurveyUSA puts Christie up by 3 with Daggett at 10 percent.
But are the remining undecideds going to break for Christie? Campaign Spot offers us a clue:
The percentage who say they're "undecided" in polls showing Corzine up: 7, 8, 8, 6, 7, 4.
Now here's the percentage who say they're undecided in polls showing Christie up: 2, 3, 6, 5, 3, 3.
The Corzine poll undecided averages 6.6 (you can take it out to another six, if you're demonically-inclined) while the Christie poll undecided averages only 3.6.
Looks like the mroe undecideds show up in a poll, the more the poll leans Corzine. Or, in other words, undecideds are either breaking towards Christie, or may not even exist at all...
More weird stuff: Liberal polling site 538.com apparently is predicting Christie +2 when all is said and done tomorrow. May not be enough to get us past the "margin of fraud", though...

Obama: "Fixing" New Jersey for Jon Corzine?
This story in the Wall Street Journal leads me to believe so...even the Hispanic community is getting into a bit of an uproar:
Victor Negron, a campaign adviser for independent mayoral candidate Roberto Feliz, a former director of Camden's public works department, says he's shocked that more than fifteen times the normal number of voters are casting absentee ballots in Camden this year. In the 2005, when the city's voters voted for both governor and mayor on the same day, only 200 absentee ballots were cast. This year, some 3,700 have already been received. At least four voters have approached the Feliz campaign to complain that an absentee ballot was sent to them without their permission or cast for them without their understanding the documents they were signing.
I spoke with Uremia Rojas who reports that "a man with a clipboard knocked on my door and had me sign something so I could vote by mail. I was skeptical but signed and got a ballot. I never really wanted one." Says Mr. Negron: "We believe this to be underhanded and a possibly illegal strategy by the Democratic Party to undermine the civil rights of the residents of Camden."
The Obama connection is here:
...Acorn's longtime allies, the Service Employee International Union and New York's Working Families Party, have both moved into New Jersey. Peter Colavito, Acorn's former political director in New York and a board member of the Working Families Party, is now the political director of SEIU Local 32BJ, which is heavily involved in New Jersey's election. Nationally, the SEIU is a political powerhouse with White House visitor's logs showing that Andrew Stern, its national head, visited 22 times in the first six months of the Obama White House -- more than any other person. "Andrew Stern practically lives at the White House," notes Politico.com.
So what do we have?
-unions are the biggest supporters of Jon Corzine; and why not? He has given them the keys to the treasury and the registration to the statehouse
-Andrew Stern, union bigwig, is Barack Obama's #1 confidante
-A loss is critical to both of them - Stern loses power, influence and due$ if Christie gets elected, Obama loses face if a state with a 600,000 Democrat registration advantage goes Republican.
-Obama sends his campaign people out to Jersey to take over the Corzine effort
-Corzine is tied, at best, going into the home stretch
-Obama orders Stern to send in ACORN
Could New Jersey become Obama's Watergate, as a frustrated population, angered at a stolen election, follows the trail back to White House?
Well, lots of folks have compared Obama to Nixon lately; in terms of "enemies lists", unrestrained egotism, and lust for power....ironic should they meet a similar fate....
Barack Obama - you should've stay out of Jersey...

Soccer Moms Getting ObamaCare Preview...
...and they do not like what they see. And if I recollect, they were once a pretty influential, if unofficial, voting bloc.
And here they come....from Alexandria, Virginia:
As I drove up to George Washington Middle School and caught site of the 1,000-plus people waiting in line for the H1N1 vaccine, I was filled with only two thoughts. “There is no way I am getting in that line” and “Is this how it is going to be for my daughter’s three-year-old check up under Obamacare?” Looking at the mass of parents and children, I suddenly wanted to go renew my driver’s license to lower my blood pressure.
If America's mom's start turning against ObamaCare, it won't be a matter of simply the legislation being dead in the water. A woman scorned is bad enough, but a women who feels that someone has put her children in jeopardy? Is there any wrath known to man that is greater, either in the human realm or the animal kingdom (ever accidentally get too close to Mother Goose's nest? I can still feel the bites...). Our moms will be relentless (Terminator-style) in hunting down those who put their families in danger so that they may feel political triumph.
There will be no place for Pelosi and Reid to hide in 2010...

Europe Comes To Jersey - To Bash Christie and Issue Slurs !
Well, their support helped doom John Kerry's 2004 election bid, their continued support of Barack Obama may help doom his entire presidency...so why not let the Europeans get involved in the Corzine/Christie battle?
From an outraged - outraged! - British comedian Martin Lewis, at the Huff:
Chris Christie, the Republican candidate for Governor of New Jersey in Tuesday's knife-edge gubernatorial election, has been called out as a copyright thief. The 47-year-old lawyer... has created an election commercial that steals copyright-protected material from British comedy troupe Monty Python -- without permission or credit.
Christie is no stranger to the world of crime. As the New York Times reported on September 23rd this year, Christie has family ties to the notorious Genovese crime family. As a child, he mingled at family parties with Tino "The Greek" Fiumara -- the brother of his aunt's husband -- described by the Times as "a fearsome and ranking member of the Genovese crime family: twice convicted of racketeering, sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, and linked by investigators to several grisly murders, including one in which a victim was strangled with piano wire."
I had to read this twice to make sure it wasn't intended as comedy. Still, I thought it would be great to help publicize this faux outrage.
Obviously, Mr. Lewis does not understand New Jersey too well. To compare Christie to a mobster, a killer, to label him as "fearsome" - this is praise to us Jersey folk. After all, they don't call Jersey the "Soprano State" for nothing, and if there was ever a state that needed some serious kneecap-bashing, it's New Jersey.
And for all those who have a distaste for comparing New Jersey to a poorly-run crime family? Someone ought to tell Martin Lewis that they resent Italian stereotypes almost as much as buttinsky European liberals....
Click on the link above to see the (now-pulled) campaign ad. It's funny, and the Monty Python crew should be proud. Would be, if it were being used by a Democrat...
In the meantime, Martin - keep it up. Another 48 hours of your idiocy will make Mr. Christie a lock...

New Jersey: "Gotham City Without Batman"
Over at The Campaign Spot, Jim Geraghty says Christie cannot win. And no, it's got little or nothing to do with polls, or an enthused electorate, or party registration:
I can easily see Christie winning narrowly on Election Night. But then Corzine will dip into those absentee ballots where the signatures don’t match, and some friendly judge will rule that because of “dozens of people” on voting lines in Camden and Newark, polls have to be kept open until 3 a.m., and suddenly boxes of ballots from Republican precincts will go missing, etc.
Many of my readers make compelling cases that the Democrats’ lack of enthusiasm will reduce their turnout to the point where the usual cheating can’t make up the difference, but I just can’t bring myself to believe that the Democrats will go quietly.
New Jersey, as it is currently run, is Gotham City without Batman, and we know what happens to hard-charging prosecutors who try to clean up dirty systems. I believe in Chris Christie. I just don’t believe in the rule of law in New Jersey...
How sad is it that in modern-day America, we are resigned to a statewide election being stolen in as brazen a fashion as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stole his in Iran? How concerning is it for the state of our Union that we can guarantee without question that no matter how openly this election is rigged, neither Attorney General Eric Holder or the president will step in to uphold the rule of law? What does it bode for the rest of our nation - and future elections while the Democrats are in power - when clean elections are sacrificed for political power?
Look, this hasn't come to pass yet. But we've been talking about Christie needing to win"outside the margin of fraud" for a while already, and now we have ACORN storming the streets of New Jersey's poorest neighborhoods, stealing votes in order to create a buffer in the case of a marginal Christie victory.
And Chris Christie as Harvey Dent? That makes Corzine into the Joker, of whom Batman said:
He's psychotic.
And I guess Dent's words apply to corruption-fighter Christie:
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Finally, Joker/Corzine, again: "Everything burns! "
Including, I suppose, democracy in America...

Christie's Lead Now "Outside the Margin of Fraud” !
(with apologies to Glenn Reynolds for the lede...)
Final pre-election poll from Public Policy Polling shows us that (as a certain blogger predicted), Christie is starting to pull away. PPP gives us Christie 47%, Corzine 41%, and Daggett (aka Jon-boy's Bitch) 11%.
Some analysis over at The Final Countdown:
CHRISTIE HAS A 43% FAV 42% UNFAV RATING; CORZINE 34% FAV 57% UNFAV; DAGGET 24% FAV 35% UNFAV- A DROP IN POSITIVES SIMILAR TO OTHER RECENT POLLS.
CHRISTIE LEADS INDS 52% TO 29% FOR CORZINE WHILE DAGGET HAS DECLINED TO 16%.
THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE ENTHUSIASM GAP: AMONG THE 38% OF LIKELY VOTERS WHO ARE "EXCITED" ABOUT THEIR CHOICE CHRISTIE LEADS 60% TO 34% FOR CORZINE AND 11% FOR DAGGET. AMONG THE 60% OF LIKELY VOTERS ONLY "SOMEWHAT" OR "NOT VERY EXCITED" THE RACE IS A VIRTUAL DEAD HEAT.
SINCE LAST WEEK 13% OF REPS AND ONLY 5% OF DEMS ARE MORE "EXCITED"....
Sorry about the caps, it's a cut-and-past job over here today...
Quinnipiac shows Christie ahead as well, although by not as large a margin.
The Quinnipiac University poll released Monday showed Christie with a 2-point lead over Corzine. Among likely voters, 42 percent backed Christie and 40 percent backed Corzine.
Christie's lead is within the margin of error, but marks a gain from a Quinnipiac survey released last week, in which Corzine enjoyed a 5-point lead.
The huge swing Quinnipiac is showing is more likely the results of skewed samples rather than a 5-point Christie swing in 5 days....
Nevertheless, if you take an average, you're getting Christie by 4+. A win of less than 3 by Christie will become a Corzine victory, as the stockpiling of fraudulent votes has already begun in earnest, as Obama has ordered in ACORN to try to save the governor's pathetic, crooked ass....

Media Parrots Democratic Talking Points On NY-23
...I mean, you would think that the AP's Valerie Baumen was a party hack herself, the way she poses - and answers - the following question in the affirmative:
N.Y. race raises question: Are moderates welcome in GOP?
In a Republican Party struggling to find its identity, the surprise withdrawal of the chosen GOP candidate for a New York congressional race — forced by a rising conservative upstart — renews a lingering national debate: Are moderates welcome in today's Grand Old Party?
The question became even more relevant Sunday when the ex-candidate, state Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava, threw her support behind the Democrat in the race rather than the Conservative Party candidate favored by fellow Republicans.
But in New York's rural 23rd Congressional District, the message was clear early: Scozzafava was too moderate; some even used the dreaded "L" word — liberal.
During the campaign she failed to connect with voters, party officials or, perhaps most important, campaign donors, largely because of her support for abortion rights, same-sex marriage and union rights.
No, Valerie - Scozzafava was not "too moderate", she was too liberal - yes, the "L" word - and if any further proof was needed as to this women's political orientation, her endorsement of Democrat Owens should nicely fulfill it. It doesn'tmake the question of the Re publican's party's inclusiveness "more relevant", it makes the question irrelevant completely.
Two parties exist to offer different ideas, Valerie, and although you might want to see Obama's "opponents" to be Obama-lite, there is quite the case for full-throated opposition to be made. And it wasn't made by the Republican party, it was made by the voters of NY-23, who have - yes, of their own free will - decided to support a more conservative candidate. Sorry if it makes you uncomfortable, Val - but that's what good opposition is supposed to do.
The media, in lockstep with the Democratic party, keeps up the drumbeat that anything less than mild opposition to the Obama agenda is "radical" and "extremist" (words that could easily be applied to the Obama agenda). Apparently, the Republican leadership in New York agreed, and thus offered up Scozzafava to the voters of the 23rd as what they now felt a 2009 nominee should sound like.
The voters, curse their souls, dared to choose otherwise. And it looks like Val and the rest of the Left might actually have to deal with some tough opponents on the road ahead, and not just Obama -lites. Thus the unloading of the arsenal, both from the Democrats and the media, against Hoffman and the conservative population of upstate New York.
Like Sarah Palin, Hoffman is dangerous, and must be taken out. Can the good people of NY-23 hold firm to their principles and elect him amid the maelstrom rains upon them?
I can only wish them luck....

Corzine: Lying About The NYT, and Toll Roads

Well, this one blew up, as we predicted, and Corzine is backing away from the New York Times story in which they claimed Corzine was contemplating re-looking at his unpopular plan to sell various New Jersey toll roads.
No, no, Corzine whined...they got me all wrong! I didn't want to sell the roads, just the advertising on them! Yeah! That's it!
Turns out that his claim make little sense, and even less money:
There is no serious extra money in rest stops or land along the New Jersey Turnpike. Rest stops are already contracted as concessions having been auctioned to the highest bidder.
Accusing the New York Times of misreporting him is a classic case of shooting the messenger. They appear to have reported him quite accurately. However what he had said suddenly became a political liability, so he needed to "unsay" it by denouncing their quite accurate reporting.
Well, Jon's now got some other options to feed his spending addiction...
Meanwhile, the Asbury Park-Press mock Corzine and his lies:
Back in November 2007, Corzine said he was so committed to his plan to monetize the state's toll roads that he was willing to stake his job on it. Voters should hold him to that by casting their ballots for Chris Christie on Tuesday

Somewhere, Jon Corzine is Tugging His Beard...
...and remaining silent. But in the god-awful scenario in which he gets re-elected, he's just figured out away to close a bit of that ever-increasing budget gap that's he's created in New Jersey.
No, he's not cutting spending. Please. He just got an idea, that's all - from the failed state of California. In other words, ladies and gentlemen - lock up your wallet:
Starting Sunday, cash-strapped California will dig deeper into the pocketbooks of wage earners -- holding back 10% more than it already does in state income taxes just as the biggest shopping season of the year kicks into gear.
Technically, it's not a tax increase, even though it may feel like one when your next paycheck arrives. ...Think of it as a forced, interest-free loan: You'll be repaid any extra withholding in April. Those who would receive a refund anyway will receive a larger one, and those who owe taxes will owe less.
Gee, that makes me feel better. You'll take my money now, and promise to pay me back - with no additional compensation for the confiscation of my capital - in a few months. Isn't this the same state that handed out IOUs earlier this year precisely because they didn't have the money to pay the tax refunds they owed to individuals and businesses?
And being forced to give money, with the promise that it will be paid back "some day", to an enterprise that is habitually bankrupt and often criminal, on the punishment of personal harm (imprisonment) - isn't that called something else?
Ah, yes. Felony theft, I believe. Or racketeering. Maybe even felony extortion.
Don't think Corzine isn't taking notes in a state that is right behind California, and following it off a cliff...
