Because DOING something about it would entail taking responsibility...
The Democratic-controlled Congress, acknowledging that it isn’t equipped to lead the way to a solution for the financial crisis and can’t agree on a path to follow, is likely to just get out of the way.
Lawmakers say they are unlikely to take action before, or to delay, their planned adjournments — Sept. 26 for the House of Representatives, a week later for the Senate. While they haven’t ruled out returning after the Nov. 4 elections, they would rather wait until next year unless Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, who are leading efforts to contain the crisis, call for help.
One reason, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday, is that “no one knows what to do” at the moment.
Well, of course "no one" know what to do - it's a Democratic-controlled Congress, after all. But cheer up, Harry, 'cause deep inside you know exactly what to do - blame George Bush for everything as you are boarding the plane!
Ah, it's likely the best thing that could happen - leaving it to Bush to straighten out. He'll figure a way out of this mess, as he always somehow does. And when he gets the job done, the Democrats will then drag their cowardly asses out of their hidey-holes, pointing the cooked finger of blame for all of their problems at...George Bush.
More like a disfunctional child than a political party with aspirations to lead America...
Ed at Hot Air:
First Pelosi adjourns the House in the middle of an energy supply crisis that hammered the working class with sharp hikes in fuel and food costs. Now both Pelosi and Reid want to adjourn both chambers of Congress rather than deal with the credit crisis that Washington created with its heavy-handed mandates to issue credit to marginally qualified borrowers and lack of oversight over government-guaranteed entities. Given their ineptitude, we probably should be grateful....
Yup.

Joe Biden: Confused about Patriotism
Well, Joe Biden has shown me the error of my ways - the only true patriots are the ones who want to pay higher taxes:
Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans.
Biden says he and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama want to "take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people."
Under the Democrats' economic plan, people earning more than $250,000 a year would pay more in taxes while those earning less — the vast majority of American taxpayers — would receive a tax cut.
Biden told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Thursday that, in his words, "it's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.
Amazing how liberals can twist every definition, even those most sanctified, into something cheap and dirty if it helps further their agenda.
And that "take money" line...kind of gives away the true thought process here, doesn't it?
Patriotic? To "take"?
No.
So we're the losers?
“Democrats are notorious for whining when things go bad,”
She believes Obama “should get back to issues, instead of talking about change."
“People still have lingering doubts about Obama as to whether he can be trusted as commander in chief,” Brazile said
“He has had some moments where he seems unsure of his own voice...”
Fair, if soft, criticism. But what if Obama fails to win the election? Aye, there's the rub:
“If he doesn’t, then Obama didn’t lose,” she said. “The country just wasn’t ready.”
Ah.
So despite the myriad of failings of Barack Obama's presidential campaign (which he has used as an example of his "experience", mind you), if he loses the election, it won't be his fault, by golly.
It will be ours. For not being ready to accept hard-left policies? For not being ready to elect a man as our Commander-in-Chief who, due to his hobnobbing with domestic terrorists, couldn't even get security clearance for a basic FBI job? For not being ready to elect a man with no real-world experience to the hardest job on the planet?
Or are we all just racists, plain and simple?
It's not hard to guess what answer Donna Brazile is shooting for.
Money Is Funny, Honey...
Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made a personal appeal to Barack Obama: Help me grow the Democrats’ Senate majority by sharing some of the $77 million you’ve got in the bank. Obama’s campaign said no.
In rejecting a direct request from his Senate leader, Obama has put a fine point on the financial pressures he’s feeling as the presidential race turns toward the fall. Obama raised a record-setting $66 million in August, leaving his campaign with about $77 million in cash now. Because he has turned down public financing, he can keep raising money through Election Day.
John McCain, having accepted public financing, can’t do that — but he already has the $84 million in public money in his campaign coffers. More importantly, McCain will get substantial help from the Republican National Committee — which has dramatically outraised its Democratic counterpart — and the Republican Party’s state and local committees.
So Obama flips-flops on public financing thinking it would be to his advantage (and it is always about what is to Barack's advantage), and yet again shows his poor judgement. And suprisingly, one-time small-time governer and presidential aspiree Howard Dean (how come the media never questioned his credentials?) has seemed to do quite the piss-poor job in raising money for his party in what should have been a blowout year. What happened to their vaunted fundraising advantage?
And the article doesn't even mention how expensive the failed "50-state" strategy of Barack Obama is, spending huge amounts of money in states he is sure to lose (ie. Florida - Obama=$8 million, McCain =$0, McCain leads by 4) and guarenteeing his $77 million+ will not stretch as far as McCain's $84 million. Another great judgement call by The Chosen One!
Maybe a few more $30K/plate dinners in Beverly Hills will convince Obama that he really is a "big man"...

New Jersey/McCain: Just flirting? Or is it more?
THE POLL: Quinnipiac University, presidential race in New Jersey of likely voters. (The state has 15 electoral votes.)
THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 48 percent, John McCain 45 percent.
OF INTEREST: Obama's lead has dropped 7 percentage points from last month when the same poll found the Democrat ahead of McCain, 51 percent to 41 percent. McCain gained ground with men, who favor the Arizona senator over Obama, 53 percent to 40 percent. Men were almost divided between the candidates in last month's poll. McCain has a 19-point lead with white voters. Obama has strong support from women, blacks and younger voters.
DETAILS: Conducted Sept. 10-14 with 1,187 likely New Jersey voters. Sampling error margin plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
One poll is a fluke, two is a coincidence....but if I see a third......
Look, these numbers are exactly the same as the Marist Poll released last week. Both had a +/- of 3% as well, meaning back to back polls have the race tied. With Obama's lead in Blue York now down to only 5% (in a poll with a 4% margin of error), one can make an argument that we are seeing a trend here, and that Obama's voters now are strictly limited to dyed-blue Democrats.
Some of it could be disaffection with the Democrats as well. Most New Jerseyans would just as soon spit at Jon Corzine as would look at him, and the New York Democratic party has had its share of woes lately (paging Elliot Spitzer!), not to mention having its favorite adopted daughter (Hillary) rejected by the party.
But can the turnout of the New Jersey suburbanites top the turnout of Corzine's union armies, Obama's brainwashed Rutgers undergrads, and ACORN's voters of dubious registration? That will be the difference maker in the Garden State, and I am not counting on it.
But again: If this is what is happening in New York and New Jersey, what is going on in the "swing states"? I think that Obama's internal polling numbers must be terrifying; hence the stench of panic emanating from the campaign, and the shrieking madness being voiced by the media.
Smells like....Republican victory.
Market collapses, Obama collects windfall...
Yesterday, Obama declared how we are in "the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression."
Today he will host a dinner in Beverly Hills --- costing attendees $28,500 dollars each!
Hundreds of high rollers, including some of the biggest executives in film, television and music, will munch gourmet chow and hang out with the candidate. Streisand will then sing at the five-star Beverly Wilshire, no doubt reviving the Depression-era standard "Happy Days Are Here Again" with new urgency.
In Democratic politics, nothing "changes"....

Why the Democrats win so many elections...
“I just do not trust the American people,” said Eleanor Shavell, 58, a computer programmer, who, along with several others, joked she would move to Canada if Mr Obama loses. “I cannot believe that 80 per cent of this country thinks we’re headed in the wrong direction yet 50 per cent are supporting McCain and Palin. I guess it’s like at school, there’s always got to be a bottom 50 per cent.”
Oh Eleanor, when will the world learn to follow your enlightened lead?
And on the Sarah Palin front:
"You want to know the honest truth? I think she’s like a bad actor from a B-list sex movie,” said Paula Vanbuskirk, an Obama-supporting independent, whose contempt for the Alaska governor and self-styled “hockey mom” was shared by almost everyone questioned by the Financial Times
Contempt. Republicans save it for America's enemies. Demcorats unleash it upon their neighbors, should they be insufficiently "enlightened".
The Financial Times article makes one more comment worth noting:
If it was Mr McCain’s intention to ignite a fresh “culture war” between middle America and east coast liberals by nominating Ms Palin, the evidence in Manchester suggested he has succeeded in spectacular fashion.
John McCain, in picking Sarah Palin, offered a contrast with Obama and Biden. It is the Democrats who looked at this contrast and said, in classic Bugs Bunny fashion, "Of course you know, this means war!"
And anyway - East Coast liberals vs. Middle America in a culture war? Take Middle America, and give the points, 'cause this one is a lock....
McCain would rather lose an election than a war...
Amir Taheri talks about the signals Obama has been giving the Iraqi leadership:
Obama has given Iraqis the impression that he doesn't want Iraq to appear anything like a success, let alone a victory, for America. The reason? He fears that the perception of US victory there might revive the Bush Doctrine of "pre-emptive" war - that is, removing a threat before it strikes at America.
Despite some usual equivocations on the subject, Obama rejects pre-emption as a legitimate form of self -defense. To be credible, his foreign-policy philosophy requires Iraq to be seen as a failure, a disaster, a quagmire, a pig with lipstick or any of the other apocalyptic adjectives used by the American defeat industry in the past five years.
Obama, as an American president, would change history, all right - turning us from winners into losers to maintain his illusionary policies and to keep the support of his hard-Left base.
This is change only the Democrats (and the media, so invested in the loss narrative) can believe in...

Sacre Bleu ! He Married a Jew!
From yesterday's New York Post:
JUST in case anyone harbored the delusion that anti-Semitism no longer exists in France, the Paris bureau of the Reuters wire service carried a story this week about French President Nicolas Sarkozy's son getting married, which mentioned the bride is Jewish in both the headline and the lead sentence. "Son of France's Sarkozy Marries Jewish Heiress," the headline read. Sarkozy's 22-year-old son Jean "married a member of the Jewish family that founded one of France's biggest retailers," Reuters reported.
The bride was finally named a few sentences down as Jessica Sebaoun-Darty, whose family owns the Darty electronics chain.
Nice!

New Jersey Awakens? Nah...
Barack Obama's lead over John McCain in "blue state" New Jersey is in single digits - with the Democratic nominee holding a scant three-point lead when "leaning" voters are factored in, a surprising poll found yesterday.
The survey from the Marist College Polling Institute shows Obama snaring 47 percent to the Republican McCain's 40 percent among voters who are solid in their decision.
But when voters leaning toward one side but not firm in their decision are factored in, the spread only favors Obama by 48 to 45.
Although I do not expect Blew Jersey to changes its colors, the tightening of the race here harkens back to October 2004, when Bush started to close on Kerry, and his campaign had to spend time and money in what should have been a reliable state, in order to shore up his base.
And if it is getting tight in Jersey, you can bet the "purple" states are getting redder every day. To wit:
"If New Jersey remains in trouble for Obama, he's probably doing worse in places like Pennsylvania and Ohio," which are true battlegrounds.
Like I said, hope ....
Stay Classy...
The campaign is a blur of flying pieces of junk, lipstick and gutter-style attacks. John McCain's deceptions about Barack Obama's views and Sarah Palin's flip-flopping suggest an unedifying scuffle over a city council seat.
The media bear a heavy responsibility because "balance" does not require giving equal time to truth and lies. So does McCain, who is running a disgraceful, dishonorable campaign of distraction and diversion.
Gee, E.J., tell us how you really feel ! I love it when you guys come busting so flamboyantly out of the closet:
John Roberts interviewing Paul Begala on CNN just now slipped and said "we" when asking how Democrats should respond to Republican attacks.
Tell us something we don't know, John. All this, meanwhile, while the WaPo was running a front-page story on Cindy McCain's past drug problems. Slogging thru the mud, indeed...
Meanwhile - speaking of truth and lies and dishonorable - Obama put out a new ad today mocking John McCain's admission that he does not use a computer:
Let's see how long that stays up. 'Cause there is certainly no dishonor in mocking a man who, due to torture at the hands of American's enemies, cannot type:
McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
Same link -even back in 2000, even the lefties at Salon were smarter enough to know:
"Six months ago, no one would have pegged McCain as the most cybersavvy of this year's crop of candidates. At 63, he is the oldest of the bunch and because of his war injuries, he is limited in his ability to wield a keyboard."
Nice, Baracky. Hey, you and your media buddies just stay classy, OK?
Update: Ace'd in a post entitled:
"Obama: Ha, Ha, McCain Is Old, He Can't Use a Computer
North Vietnamese Captors: Yeah, Ha Ha, We Did That to Him; Pretty Good Gag, Eh?"
In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate . Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate's savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.
Nice story; seeing how his infirmary has been turned into an opportunity for Cindy and John McCain to engage each other nightly and keep their marriage strong. Nice way it has been treated by the Obama camp, too. Remember this, when E.J. Dionne is lecturing you on who is "dishonorable".

Falling, Forever Falling...
This photo, for me, is the most haunting visual from September 11th. This man went to work that beautiful Tuesday morning, perhaps kissed his wife and children goodbye, and soon was faced with a choice presented to him by Islamic terrorists: To die by fire, or to die by falling. What went through his mind as he pondered his options? Was there ever the hope he could survive the 100-odd story fall? Or was this the American version of the ancient Isrealites' Masada, where they fell on their swords rather than be taken by the Roman enemy? Did he chose to take his own life in a defiant plunge rather than burn in his enemy's fire?
We'll never know, and it doesn't really matter anyway. What matters is that in his death, Falling Man did something meaningful, something great. He shows us, in the starkest terms, the choices being offered to us by the Islamic enemy. Peace and friendship are not present in this photograph, nor is the possibility of future existence. The only choice being offered by the Muslim Terrorist is the method by which our lives are to be ended to serve their dream of an Islamist globe.
I look at this photo and wonder how many Americans will be faced with this man's choice in the future. After 9/11, we said Never Again and Never Forget, but with the help of the liberals and their lackeys in the media the horror of that day is being sanitized, equivilized, and minimalized. Will it soon be taught that Falling Man's death was, in actuality, his own fault?
We must fight. Now. In the Middle East and wherever the terrorist calls his turf, lest he return to our soil to perpetrate his hatred again. We must ignore the sweet siren call of the Left, calling for aquiesence and appeasement with those whom want our blood. Let us turn away from the weakness of "understanding" our enemies; for I do not want the poisonous ideology of those whom caused my friend to jump to ever enter my soul.
There is right and wrong. There is good and evil. Those whom refuse to define it do not know the difference, and their morality (or lack of it) will eventually kill them.
I will define it; I will call a thing what it is, political correctness be damned. I was there; an eyewitness; I watched the buildings fall and heard the people scream; I saw more funerals at a young age then I ever imagined possible. The cry of the bagpipes echos in my head, and forever chills my heart.
Falling Man, again. He made a moral choice that turned into a symbol for September 11th. In the face of our enemy, we are all faced with a similar choice. Fight with whatever we have, or be consumed in his flames. Not happy choices, but neither were his. We cannot chose the times we are given to live in, we can only chose what we do with that time.
Let us chose wisely, then. On a day that we mourn the slaughter of thousands of innocent Americans, it is incumbant upon us to Never Forget, and to do all in our power to make sure this never happens again. Lest our generation be cursed by those that follow.
May God bless and keep the souls of those whom perished in the maelstrom of September 11th, 2001...

Sarah Palin: Ugly Liberal Rage Roundup
Some of the worst has been presented by Salon:
Sarah Palin and her virtual burqa have me and my friends retching into our handbags. She's such a power-mad, backwater beauty-pageant casualty, it's easy to write her off and make fun of her. But in reality I feel as horrified as a ghetto Jew watching the rise of National Socialism.
She is dangerous. She is not just pro-life, she's anti-life. She is the suppression of human feeling and instinct. She is a slave to the compromises dictated by her own desire for power and control. Sarah Palin is untethered from her own needs and those of her family, which is in crisis, with a pregnant daughter, a son on the way to Iraq and a special-needs infant.
Celebrity Idiot #1: Deepak Chopra:
She is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his idealism and exhorting people to obey their worst impulses. In psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of "the other."
That must have made a lot of sense while you were gazing at your chakras, Deepan Pizza....
Celebrity Idiot #2: Roger Ebert:
Sarah Palin's travel record is that of a hopeless provincial. ... Palin is a shallow, chirpy person with those vaguely alarming eyeglasses. Now her fans all want a pair. Remember back when women wore glasses that departed their ears in plastic swoops and swirls? My theory is, anyone who wears glasses that look weird is telling me something I don't want to know.
Ye gads, she's provincial? Gee Roger, did you monocle fall into your champagne flute when you thought that one up?
Finally, the absolute bottom is here, so ugly I may delink it, so nasty it may wind up disappearing. If you want to see the spiritual descendants of Josef Goebbels and Dr. Mengele, the darkest part of the human heart, then go, but be it with a steel stomach (Gee, thanks Erica, for making me puke).
I'm done for now. On the eve of 9/11, I wonder if in fact that day was not also the beginning of the complete unhinging of the Left...as they saw their worldview collapse in a pile of rubble and screaming pain, unable to admit the errors of their philosophy, they instead turn to hatred and rage (primarily against their fellow Americans) to blot out the doubts.
Look for them tomorrow, celebrating the anniversary with Obama by apologizing to Muslims eveywhere for our misdeeds...
Racism, Hatred, and Baby-Killing in South Carolina
South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate " whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”
Fowler ...(said).... that the selection of an opponent of abortion rights would not boost McCain among many women.“Among Democratic women and even among independent women, I don’t think it helped him,” she said.
Told of McCain's boost in the new ABC/Washington Post among white women following the Palin pick, Fowler said: "Just anecdotally, I believe that those white women are Republican women anyway."
Fowler is white as well, does she feel the same loathing for herself when she looks in the mirror as I am feeling for her right now?
NY Times: The Dumb get Dumber !
....It’s a tad reminiscent of the Dan Quayle selection, when the first George Bush’s advisers decided they could close the gender gap with a cute running mate.
The idea that women are going to race off to vote for any candidate with the same internal plumbing is both offensive and historically wrong. When the sexes have parted company in modern elections, it’s generally been because women are more likely to be Democrats.....
Offensive? Wrong? Really....
Guess who doesn't have a clue, Gail Quayle:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain has gained huge support among white women since naming Sarah Palin as his running mate and now leads Democrat Barack Obama among those voters, according to a survey published on Tuesday.
The Washington Post/ABC News poll found that much of McCain's surge in the polls since the Republican National Convention is attributable to the shift in support among white women.
....after the Republican convention in early September, McCain was ahead by 12 points among white women, 53 percent to 41 percent, the poll found.
I think Gail is the one "offensively wrong" here...but hey, I am sure she got kudos all the way around on her way back to her Upper West Side townhouse!
UPDATE: Yup...via NRO:
Was talking to a friend of mine in New York (conservative). He had been to the playground, with his kids. Got into a conversation with some “other moms.” They said they were very, very insulted that McCain chose Palin, expecting them to vote for her. (They must be fans of Gail Quayle!)
My friend said, “Oh, don’t worry: He wasn’t expecting you to vote for her — at all. He was expecting me to vote for her, which I will.”
"Lipstick on a Pig"?
The media was ready at 6AM with a full-throttled defense of Barack Obama, with Matt Lauer declaring it "put to bed" by 6:05AM. Ah, wishful thinking there, Matt....
Jennifer Rubin points out that lashing out with panic while still campaigning does not exactly burnish one's Commander-in-Chief bona fides - here.
And yes, of course Obama knew what he was saying - and why we can't do anything about it...
Whore
Of course he (McCain) became very friendly with the Vietnamese. They called him the Prince. He was well treated actually.
The air reeks of hatred, misogony, and desperation. Must be Fall in an election year...

Obama Implodes; Election Over !
Today - in Lebanon, Va. - Obama showed his true colors; and boy, they were as ugly as we always believed them to be:
Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.
"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."
"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."
"We've had enough of the same old thing."
John McCain, war hero = old stinky fish
Sarah Palin, Governer of Alaska = pig
Can the media bail him out of this one by say, not reporting it? I don't know, it's already out there...
Way to get the woman vote, Obama! And I'll bet you just about locked up Florida, too....
America owes Sarah Palin a debt of gratitude; she may have saved our nation from whatever sick fate Barack Obama had planned for us....
Palin Smear of the Day
Pastor: GOP may be downplaying Palin's religious beliefs
For more than two decades, current Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was a practicing Pentecostal.
Some Pentecostals from Assembly of God also believe in "faith healing" and the "end times" -- a violent upheaval that they believe will deliver Jesus Christ's second coming.
But how might her religious beliefs impact policy in Washington if the Republican ticket is successful?
I have a better question - how might Barack Obama's religious beliefs impact policy in Washington if theDemocratic ticket is successful?
After all, Obama belonged to Reverend Wright's "Church of hate" until oh, say, fifteen minutes ago. Sarah Palin left her Pentecostal church over six years ago.
Doesn't matter, it's not about truth, it's about committing a high-tech rape of Ms. Palin's reputation. After all, CNN has proof of Palin's religious moonbattery:
"Pray for our military men and women who are striving do to what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for -- that there is a plan, and that plan is God's plan."
Wow! That's crazy! I'll bet no one in history has ever asked for God's hand to guide our troops to victory before.
...can I throw up again?

"A High-Tech Rape"
George Korda catches the AP drooling:
There is language being used by some segments of the news media toward Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin that very likely wouldn’t be tolerated if she were not a Republican and a conservative.
For example, here is the lead of a Sept. 4, Associated Press story about Gov. Palin: “With a forceful speech that served as her introduction to millions of Americans on Wednesday, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin seduced many on television who had spent days doubting her candidacy.”
The use of the word “seduced” is more than interesting. The first two definitions in the Encarta Dictionary of the word seduced are:
1. Encourage somebody to have sex.
2. Lead somebody astray.
Meanwhile, Obama distorts the record, while CNN says, "Who, us? Check out the Messiah's story? Blasphemy!"
Several opponents of Palin, as well as the non-partisan factcheck.org, have noted the claim she was against the bridge is not entirely accurate — the Alaska governor was for the bridge during her 2006 gubernatorial bid, and did not begin opposing it until it became clear the project was doomed on Capitol Hill.
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton went even further Monday, calling the assertion a flat out "lie."
“Despite being discredited over and over again by numerous news organizations, the McCain campaign continues to repeat the lie that Sarah Palin stopped the Bridge to Nowhere," Burton said. "McCain and Palin will say or do anything to make people believe that they will change something besides the person sitting in the Oval Office."
And our noble Alaskan Democratic Party tries to help out the Community-Organizer- in-Chief by disappearing the evidence, contained on their own web site:
A web site paid for by the Alaska Democratic Party says unequivocally that the state of Alaska officially abandoned the Bridge to Nowhere project, and credits Governor Sarah Palin.
Or ... it used to say that, before the page mysteriously vanished some time during the past few days.
The truth, down the Democratic memory hole. Or maybe not so, if you follow some links, you can get back to the page, paid for by the Alaskan Democratic party, that states:
Gov. Palin recently cancelled the Gravina Island Bridge near Ketchikan that would have connected the Alaska mainland with Gravina Island (population: 50).
Get that, Obama? Gov. Palin recently cancelled....not with any of your help, mind you:
Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.
But the truth doesn't matter at the AP, so they invent their own:
Barack Obama broadly accused his Republican rivals of dishonesty Monday, citing former lobbyists working for John McCain, Sarah Palin's shifting stance on the "Bridge to Nowhere" and their promise to change Washington.
The only stances shifting have been Obama's. And the media's.
Justice Thomas thought he knew what a high-tech lynching was back in 1991? Welcome to the 21st century, where a sadistic media and psychopathic political party have a little fun with their intended victim before stringing them up.
I feel sick.
If you want to join me as I pray before the porcelin god, read the roundup over at Instapundit...
Barack Obama in New Jersey
“I hope you guys are up for a fight. I hope you guys are game because I haven’t been putting up with 19 months of airplanes and hotel food and missing my babies and my wife – I didn’t put up for that stuff just to come in second,” he said. “I don’t believe in coming in second. The American people can’t afford for us to come in second.”
Oh, poor Barack Obama! Sorry you had to "put up" with private jet trips, four-star hotel food, and the indignity of 19 months of shaking the hands of bitter Middle-Americans. Why, it makes the sacrifices of John McCain seems petty and small in comparison!
How noble of you - if you were not already The Messiah, you would qualify for sainthood!
Obama Calls Hillary....
"...hey, sorry about that bitter primary thing, calling your husband racist, and the lack of campaign debt relief. Could you do me a favor and alienate a certain portion of your voters, obliterate your newfound respect from some corners of the right, and incinerate your chance to head a Democratic ticket in 2012 by making a kamikaze run at America's newest sweetheart, in order to save my tuchus? Thanks, sweetie."
I can imagine Hillary holding the phone away from her ear and grimacing in disgust, as if a drunken ex-boyfriend were making the 3AM call looking for love.
Still, she's found the Clintonesque middle ground:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton marched for labor and stumped with Democrats on Saturday, but sidestepped questions about the woman who has taken her place as the nation's most-talked-about female leader. Clinton brushed aside questions about Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin during appearances at New York City's annual Labor Day parade and later during a stop on Staten Island.
Another no-win situation for the Democrat's most high-profile female - if she campaigns hard against Palin, she loses the respect of a segment of woman voters that may support her in 2012, and she loses her ability to speak authoritatively as a voice of feminism if she is perceived as a tool of the machine that brings down Palin. If she goes in half-hearted, as it appears, an Obama loss will be laid at her feet and she loses inter-party support for a future presidential run.
Unfair? Yeah. But so is the Democratic party's treatment of woman, so blatently obvious in this election cycle. Will people wise up to this fact, or continue to scream about Republican oppression of woman while the Democrats treat them like last night's mistake?
Did the freakin' world turn upside down?
The Republican National Convention has given John McCain and his party a significant boost, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken over the weekend shows, as running mate Sarah Palin helps close an "enthusiasm gap" that has dogged the GOP all year.
McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican's biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.
....In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote.
Obama's foot soldiers are the first to fall, albiet unwillingly:
After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.
The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.
“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of MSNBC ....
Sarah Palin: Smiting our enemies!
Oh. For like the twelfth time: McCain...in a rout.

Sarah Palin Starring As: "The Other"
On the other, liberal journalists turned her family into an object of sexual disgust: inbred rednecks who had stumbled out of Deliverance. Palin was meant to be pretending that a handicapped baby girl was her child when really it was her wanton teenage daughter's. When that turned out to be a lie, the media replaced it with prurient coverage of her teenage daughter, who was, after all, pregnant, even though her mother was not going to do a quick handover at the maternity ward and act as if the child was hers.

"The Other"
Sunday Morning Bible Selection...
“And I looked, and behold a roaring snowmobile, and her name that sat on it was Palin, and Hell-to-Pay followed with her. And power was given unto her over the red states of the West and the South, and Ohio and Michigan, to injure the Messiah with irony, and with sarcasm, and with plain speaking like those of the red of neck who slay the beasts of the earth and mock the pharisees of Harvard and DC.”

Oprah Winfrey, Eaten Alive....
On her own message boards.
So how's that whole Sarah Palin ban working out for you, darlin'?
I'll go to Oprah's board for the answer:
The writing was on the wall when she supported obama over hillary clinton. hillary who went to china and spoke on womens rights, who has campaigned tirelessly for women and children. she picked an african american over a women.
Oprah seems to forget that women are her base, we have given her everything she has. Where would oprah be without the women of this country and the world, who would buy her magazines, watch her shows, her tv specials. You may not agree with sarah palin's politics (i do not) but the woman has a remarkable story and it deserves air time. Oprah your statement released this morning is pathetic, you are the Oprah show...as you have said many times.
You campaigned for Obama, you cried your eyelashes off at his nomination speech and you did the happy dance when he sealed the primary's after defeating hillary clinton. For years you have had women on your show speaking about how the have been affected by sexism, abuse, and other realated issues, but you have let your race and your hope for an african american president override your judgement. I'm disappointed in you and in your show.
This women (sarah palin) has endured more in the last week then any women has publicly had to endure. The media questioned is she a fit mother, can she be VP and a mother at the same time, maybe she should be home with her children. let me be clear...I do not support sarah palins politics but the treatment of her over the last week has spurred an anger in me that I didn't even know existed. Oprah you ought to be ashamed and embarrassed.
Is Oprah playing the race card by denying her show's massive female audience the opportunity for a close-up with tthe world's most talked-about woman?
Ah, it is her show, after all, and she can book whom she please (at least until Obama passes the Fairness Doctrine, ironically).
But the "race over gender" issue is all over the boards, and maybe she would be best served by quenching this fire early, and getting Palin on the show for a nice little girly chat ASAP.
Is Oprah a model businesswoman, or another liberal ideologue? Stay tuned...
Sarah Palin: The Beat Goes On....
Dr. Laura:
I’m stunned - couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?
Hmm...why not ask Joe Biden, whose wife was killed in a car accident that left his two sons seriously injured and motherless, yet was "...persuaded not to resign in order to care for them"?
But really, who are we fooling here? The Boston Herald informs us that a woman's candidacy is not about her qualifications, it's about her looks:
With her long, straight, often pinned-up locks, Palin looks one humid day away from fronting a Kiss cover band.
“It’s about 20 years out of date,” said Boston stylist Mario Russo of the Alaska governor’s ’do. “Which goes to show how off she might be on current events.”
The Dallas Morning News is on board:
Who the heck told her to wear something that low cut? Does that really say "conservative?"
Then I noticed that it wasn't really cleavage, it was a poorly placed nude-colored stripe at the top of her dress. Other people across the blogosphere thought she was giving away the farm, too, so I'm not alone.
Nice excuse - I guess because everyone else jumped off the bridge, you are vindicated for doing the same. Personal and professional responsibility at its best...
The New York Daily News, abandoning its once middle-ground position and shifting harder and harder to the left, puts her picture and headline on today's front page screaming "Selling Sarah: Country Split on Her Credentials ".
While trumpeting the poll that claims only 42% say she is ready to lead, they bury deeper in the article results that show " 50% - have a favorable first impression of the moose-hunting governor of Alaska, compared with 37% who view he runfavorably. "
'Cause that's not the story they want out there.
They have also been kind enough to provided us with a Sarah Palin Scandal Watch, in order to keep us abreast of the latest lies cooked up by the rabid dogs of the liberal blogosphere -lies which they are eager to reprint and rehash, of course. And that page about the Barack Obama/Bill Ayers connection? Gee, it must have expired...
And the News' selection of "Letters to the Editor" today was practically Times-like in its choir of "amens" - 9 anti-Republican/anti-Palin letters, and zero letters of support.
Guess they need to put lie to that 50% approval rating....well, what else would you expect from a newspaper that moves New York's most-loathed sports columnist to the front pages to help out in the attack? Listen to how local boob Mike Lupica first describes the Palin pick:
....the people who have hijacked the last couple of presidential campaigns and have now clearly hijacked John McCain as well show how desperate the times are for them by selecting Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as McCain's running mate, someone McCain knew about as well as an online date.
McCain isn't being some kind of edgy, independent maverick here. Are you kidding? The whole thing is cynical and transparent and even sad. McCain looks bought and paid for by the same elements of his party that he is supposed to be running against as much as he runs against Obama. He uses Gov. Palin and lets his party use him at the same time. The polling on Obama must have them more scared than the new hurricane.
Ah, look at those polls lately, Lupica? Nah, it's that whole "pesky facts" issue again that the Daily News is trying to steer clear of. Lupica's close gives it away, as he vents West-of-the Hudson bile and ascribes to the Republicans his (and his employer's) true feeling about the American public:
I am in a taxi yesterday and the driver, a young African-American student, is listening to Gov. Pawlenty and Tom Brokaw on "Meet the Press," listening to Pawlenty talk about what a "maverick" McCain still is by picking Palin from Alaska, or maybe the moon.
"They still think enough of the country is stupid," the kid said.
The Republicans do, and why not? It's been working for them.
Nice.

Obama's Spiritual Twin
I found this on my favorite French blog, E-nough!; it is dated August 12th but I must have missed it....it goes back to those heady early days of the Russian-Georgian War; as French President Nicolas Sarkozy traveled to Moscow to attempt to negotiate a way out of the "Caucasus Conflict".
Ah, a good try there Nic, but a bit wide right....
Anyway - as Sarkozy was en route to attempt some "Obamaplomacy", French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner gave an interview to Georgian radio, one in which he offered up the most stunning statement of moral equivalence this blogger has ever read:
'It is a war of bombing and mortars,' Kouchner said. 'There have already been numerous civilian casualties.' He refrained, however, from condemning the latest Russian bombing. M. Kouchner:
"I condemn, I can no longer hear both sides."
Kouchner will find much to talk about with young Obama, should he ascend to the throne he feels so rightfully is his. For Kouchner's diplomatic stylings will soon be indistinguishable from our own...
Sarah Palin: Banned by Oprah?
Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket...
"Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama."
One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!
Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography....
Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment.
Well, if the Democrats ever get their "Fairness Doctrine", Oprah is going to have to book the likes of Palin, by government decree. Sucker!!
Well, The Daytime Queen is now exposed as just another MSM whore, on her knees in front of the Messiah, and it seems as if even her viewers know it. Over at Volokh, they do the research, and to me it seems to point out that the media isn't even bothering to "spin" anymore, they are just outright lying to protect The Undeserving One:
If one compares Palin’s speech to Obama’s, it appears to me that they used similar amounts of sarcasm (not much), but Obama made considerably more extensive negative comments about McCain and Republican administrations than Palin did about Obama and Democrats. Palin’s negative comments, however, were on balance funnier, better written, and more pointed than Obama’s.
Jim adds:
By continuing to spread false memes about the nature of Sarah Palin's speech as if they were true, the press marches forward in the most biased season of political reporting I've seen since at least 1998.
With the race a virtual tie, in polling done before McCain's speech, you know this is going to get way, way uglier in the next sixty days. Can the media pull itself back from the brink?
It may be too late for Us magazine; apparently thousands are cancelling their subscriptions to Jan Wenner’s weekly celeb rag over its “Babies, Lies & Scandals” cover slamming Sarah Palin:
I’m hearing it’s 5,000, maybe more,” says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions....
When Us went to print Monday night, it looked like the ticket was falling apart," says one magazine editor. “They went to print thinking Palin was dead in the water, and their mistake was thinking everyone who reads "Us" is a Democrat, when they’re not.
A mistake, I believe, that is being repeated ad naseum....
How that Sarah Palin bashing actually worked out....
Today we have the answer, with tounge no longer firmly implanted in cheek, but with jaw wide open:
The Associated Press reports that, counting PBS, over 40 million Americans watched Sarah Palin on television last night--more, by around two million, than saw Barack Obama in Denver.
A big shout-out and special thanks to the asswipes on the liberal blogs, and to their lapdogs in the mainstream media who couldn't wait to reprint and rebroadcast their hatred and lies.
We couldn't have gotten the message out without you!
Little Known Fact
Todd Palin knows these facts, and more:
"If I’d had a crystal ball a few years ago, I might have asked a few more questions when Sarah decided to join the PTA. It wouldn’t have mattered, though; when my wife starts talking about reform, corruption and making government work for the people, it’s just best to get out of the way."

So how's that Sarah Palin bashing working out for you now?
In all my years writing movies, going to drama school, etc., I have almost never seen anything so dramatic. It was the rebirth of Frank Capra for our times - Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington. This woman is a star and a star of the American kind we have not seen for years. She really is born live from a Capra movie, from the days Hollywood told stories about the greatness of our country. I don’t agree with her about with her about everything but so what? I don’t agree with anybody about everything except, luckily for me, my wife. But Sarah Palin is a force of nature.
The big losers tonight are obvious: Joe Biden, who will look like hackopathropus erectus next to her, a dinosaur out the Washington everybody hates, and Hillary Rodham Clinton who, I would bet anything, was staring at her television set in horror tonight at the possible first woman president of the United States - and it’s not her!
Mark Steyn gives credit where credit is due:
I would like to thank the US media for doing such a grand job this last week of lowering expectations by portraying Governor Palin - whoops, I mean Hick-Burg Mayor Palin - as a hillbilly know-nothing permapregnant ditz, half of whose 27 kids are the spawn of a stump-toothed uncle who hasn't worked since he was an extra in Deliverance.
How's that narrative holding up, geniuses? Almost as good as your "devoted husband John Edwards" routine?
Barack Obama, welcome to your nightmare.....
And more and more facts about Sarah Palin are coming to light:
-The diamonds in Sarah Palin’s earrings were crushed with her very hands.
-Glasses sales are up 150 percent since Sarah palin became nominee.
-It’s not over until Sarah Palin says it’s over.
More reasons to fear Sarah Palin are here....

Palin and the Jews

Another reason for the media's fear and loathing of Sarah Palin....can she actually pull a few Jewish votes off of the Obama bandwagon?
And yet another reason for the Demcrats, they of the anti-semitic dog whistle, to fear and loathe Ms. Palin as well.
And yet another display of her refreshing honesty, and "newness" - she doesn't need to have an Israeli flag in her office; the Jewish population of Alaska is negligible, and it is unlikely she has any fundraisers among the big-time Jewsih groups that she feels she must impress.
No, the flag is there because she believes in the nation of Israel, and its rightousness. And I believe this woman with a penchant for automatic weapons will do everything in her power to protect this tiny nation, unlike a certain other party that cannot wait to throw it under the grinding gears of the Arab bus....
OK, OK, so I have a bit of a crush going on here. But loving Sarah Palin is...."Right"!
"Sneering" at Sarah Palin
The Wall Street Journal has it diagnosed right today:
Even as the Obama camp ponders how best to handle John McCain's veep pick of Sarah Palin, the high priests and priestesses of the media have marked her as an apostate. The Beltway class is in full-throated rebellion against a nondomesticated conservative who might pose a threat to their coronation of Barack Obama and the return of Camelot-on-the-Potomac...
They want a VP to be a kind of parliamentary choice, someone they have already vetted, someone who's made them laugh with insider jokes at the Gridiron dinner...
What's really going on here is that the Beltway class can see how popular the Palin pick is with Republicans outside Washington, and especially with middle-class conservatives....
And what the WSJ does not say (but should) to that last point is, "...so they are throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her in order to stop her ascent in middle-America's consciousness". That "everything" includes sexism and regionalism, which I am just now learning is a hate crime when used against Democrats, but fine and dandy as a weapon against Republican women.
Over at The Plank, there is fair warning posted to the Democrats:
She's just a small town mayor, just a hockey mom, just a beauty pageant queen. Palin has never shunned these belittling monikers, in part, I imagine, because the camouflage has served her so well. Soothed by the litany, her opponents tend to sleep too late, sneer too much, and forget who it is that hires them.
....what the Democrats seem poised to miss now--is that she is a true political savant; a candidate with a knack for identifying the key gripes of the populace and packaging herself as the solution. That keen political nose has enabled her to routinely outperform her resume. Nearly two years into her administration, she still racks up approval ratings of 80 per cent or better.
But in probing this candidate, it would behoove the Democrats and the pundits to shed the notion that they are dealing with some dimwitted bumpkin (Dan Quayle seems to come up a lot lately) who’s going to start crying when they ask her to name the president of Azerbaijan; or that Palin is the townie who was brought into the Skull & Bones initiation night for the amusement of all; or that somehow the prom queen ballots got mixed up with the Alaska gubernatorial poll. Trivialize her at your own peril.
Sarah Palin is a living reminder that the ultimate source of political power in this country is not the Kennedy School or the Davos Summit or an Ariana Huffington salon; even now, power emanates from the electorate itself. More precisely, power in 2008 emanates from the working class electorates of Pennsylvania and Ohio...
The media is going to be faced with its disconnect shortly: Bash Sarah for "inexperience", and you need to then explain what Obama has done better. Compare her to a latter-day Quayle (despite the fact she has not committed gaffe one), and you have to face up to Obama's "57 states" and his many, many other verbal faux paus. Question her devotion to her family and you raise the ugly spectre of misogyny, which will only drive those middle class woman to throw their bodies in front of her, and cast their vote for her. You want to bring up the so-called Alaskan "troopergate scandal"? Fine, let's talk Bill Ayers as well.....
This media line of attack on Sarah Palin is hurting Obama more than helping him, but their partisanship and sheer distaste for the Republican party is making them blind as well as stupid. But please, don't stop on my account.
Again: McCain/Palin. In a rout....
