Patrick Kennedy: The Last Scion Falls On His Sword
It's over for the Kennedys, and based on his behavior, Patrick seems to be dimly aware of it. The castle is smoldering, the enemies are mounting a counterattack, the theology has lost its magic, and the peasants are searching out their next victim. With recent polling showing only 35% of voters in his district would vote to re-elect him, while while awarding him with a 56% unfavorable rating, it seems as if Patrick will be the next - and last - Kennedy to lose his head in the great 2010 Tea Party.
And he goes out not with class, but with rage and confusion at the sudden loss of the magic that his last name has always given him; and he spits bile and invective at the new order of things, as he prepares vainly for a final battle, ready to draw as much blood as he can on the way (back) down.
And so it appears that Patrick saw the troops amassed against him, holding the banners of the Right, The Center, the Tea Party, and Legal Insurrection, and decided, for better or worse, that the principles he was shrieking about a mere seven days ago were no longer worth fighting for, and that the Kennedy line would die with him:
Rep. Patrick Kennedy has decided not to seek re-election to Congress, saying his life is "taking a new direction" just months after the death of his father and mentor, Sen. Edward Kennedy. (video here)
Very Spinal Tap-ish, if you ask me ( "You are witnesess at the new birth of Spinal Tap Mark II, hope you enjoy our new direction... "). But much more interesting is this:
When he leaves office, it will be the first time a Kennedy has not sat in Congress or the White House since future President John F. Kennedy entered the House in January 1947.
Mick Jagger famously sang, in Sympathy for the Devil:
I shouted out
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me...
Well, the Kennedys are, finally, a spent political force. And who "killed" them? No, not "you and me", but it was fratricide, murder by his own philosophical family. Who killed the the Kennedys? Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid did, by creating a firestorm where the middle class had no choice but to rise up in revolt against the political elite, and what greater symbol, and therefore target, is there than a Kennedy?
And Patrick goes down running, not fighting - offering little in defense of his policies or behavior, instead simply fleeing the battle which he helped ignite, in order to preserve what little riches he still retains. Let us hope his new direction is one that leads him far, far away from public life, now and forever...

The Last Gasp of The Kennedys
And then it was Massachusetts 2010, and an election that by all rights should have been nothing more than a formality instead turned into something quite different. Despite Vicki Kennedy's heartfelt attempts on behalf of the heir apparent, the "Kennedy Seat" was given by the people of the state to a truck-driving Republican, as opposed to the candidate who swore to carry on Teddy's liberal legacy.
And that brings us to Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy, perhaps the last scion of a once-elite political family. And like the last of many lines, his blood may still run liberal, but it is filled with gross impurities (as befits a Kennedy) - he's abused cocaine, alcohol, and Oxycotin, he was at the scene of the infamous William Kennedy Smith rape, he's abused women, wrecked yachts, taken and refused to return money from corrupt Democratic financiers such as Norman Hsu, he's been denied Holy Communion by his local Bishop, and of course crashed his 1997 Ford Mustang convertible into a barricade in Washington DC while under the influence of drugs (Kennedy's confession) or alcohol, as per witnesses. And, when asked, once brazenly spat out the following statement: "I have never worked a fucking day in my life".
The Last Scion, having seen the gates of Camelot fall and is watching with horror and disbelief as the castle is stormed by a peasantry ungrateful for all he and his family has done for it, thus turns to the last refuge of a man stripped of all pretense of honor or power: Hatred. And so Patrick Kennedy directs it today at Scott Brown, the man who dared to usurp the throne and claim the mantle in the name of the people:
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) castigated Brown for having pushed to be sworn in ahead of schedule to permanently fill the Senate seat left vacant by the congressman's father's death in August."Brown's whole candidacy was shown to be a joke today when he was sworn in early in order to cast his first vote as an objection to Obama's appointment to the NLRB," Kennedy said Thursday.
"Seven out of ten of Brown's voters were labor households and he stressed that he was independent and while he was originally scheduled to be sworn in next week, they moved it up to today so he could cast his first vote, the most anti-labor, the most anti-what his constituents thought they were voting for when they voted for him," Kennedy said.
Brown, for his part, has denied trying to move up his nomination to block Becker's nomination. "This is where he shows that when they need him, he's in the tank for the Republicans," Kennedy said.
We all have a lot to learn about Scott Brown, but Patrick Kennedy has decided, rather to wait and see, to launch a pre-emptive, partisan attack against the man by claiming to know his mind and motivations, and declaring them to be evil in intent.
The last of the Kennedys. Thanks God...

Barack Obama Goes To Ground Zero....
What, you didn't know that the president failed to pay his respects at this hallowed ground on September 11th, 2009 or September 11th, 2010? I suppose it's understandable; after all, it's not something the media is going to make a big deal about.
So why go today, on May 5th, 2011?
Oh, right. Because today - finally - Barack Obama can make Ground Zero all about...Barack Obama..
Somewhat related, at least in my mind, are the words of Greg Sullivan, a retired NYPD sergeant whose brother Patrick was murdered in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center:
...More upsetting to Greg was the media’s inordinate interest in the details of bin Laden’s burial rites. “They never found Patrick,” he said. “My mother had to give up a lock of his hair from his first haircut so we would have something to bury. You think bin Laden cared that Patrick didn’t get a proper Christian burial? There were lots of people like that, friends of ours whose bodies were never found. Whatever might have been left of them ended up in the dump out on Staten Island. You think bin Laden cared about any of them?”
Neither Greg nor his brother Jerry nor their parents, Paddy and Mary, will be in attendance when President Obama visits Ground Zero on today. “We weren’t invited,” he said.
Because, you see, today's event isn't really about Greg, or Patrick.
It's about...well, you know.
Update: Well, yeah:
Obama seems to want all the credit for himself, even if it is undeserved.
How totally out of character for him...

Separated At Birth: Patrick Kennedy and Rainier Wolfcastle ?
...and here's the alleged Congressman Patrick Kennedy, making the paper for the same exact reason:
Barkeep cuts off boozy Camelot kid
After a candid speech discussing his substance-abuse problems, Rep. Patrick Kennedy sauntered into a DC watering hole and ordered up so many vodka shots that the bartender refused to serve him any more, it was reported yesterday.
Kennedy, the troubled son of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, downed at least six shots of straight-up vodka before the bartender cut him off, a source told the Roll Call's Heard on the Hill blog.
He strolled into the Capitol Lounge just hours after being recognized for helping people with mental-health issues.
When a patron offered to buy him a drink, Kennedy eagerly ordered up a vodka shot, according to Roll Call.
The Rhode Island Democrat -- who is not running for re-election -- was in high spirits, calling President Obama "the best president ever," the source told Roll Call.
Wow, he must've been mad high...

Just How Many Race Cards Are In This Marked Deck ??
Paterson alleged he and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick - both of whom are the first African Americans to hold their respective positions and are tanking in the polls - are being treated unfairly by the media due to the color of their skin.
The governor said he thinks the same thing is happening to the nation's first black president, Barack Obama, who also seen his approval rating drop due to his controversial efforts to overhaul the health care system.
"This state is not in the trouble that Michigan is in, Pennsylvania is in and Massachusetts is in, but you don’t see in those other states this crescendo about getting rid of the governor just because we’re in a recession," Paterson told Louis this morning on AM 1600 WWRL.
"And I submit that the same kind of treatment that Deval Patrick is receiving right now in Massachusetts, and I’m receiving; the way in which the New York State Senate was written about, calling them a bunch of people with thick necks - they’re talking about Malcolm Smith and John Sampson - that we’re not in the post-racial period."
"And the reality is that the next victim on the list - and you see it coming - is President Barack Obama, who did nothing more than try to reform a health care system that’s now 10 percent of GDP and will be 20 percent of GDP in the next four years only because he’s trying to make change."
Golly, where do I begin? Maybe with pointing out another thing that Paterson, Patrick, and Obama have in common - they are all hard-core liberals at a time when there is a tremendous backlash against that governing philosophy. Obama's approval ratings have dropped 20 points since inauguration; did 20% of the American people become racist after voting for him to be their leader?
Not to mention this Triumvirate from Hell are all Democrats, a party affiliation that is more associated now with socialism than freedom. Think that's got something to do with it?
And what about Governor Arnold? He's not getting love letters from the population either...must be because he's an immigrant, right?
New York baseball fans will remember the remark made by then-Mets manager Willie Randolph, who, when asked if he thought he was being picked on by the media:
As for why Joe Torre's calmness in the dugout was praised as a virtue while he's vilified when not ejected, Randolph had said: "Is it racial? Huh. It smells a little bit."
Hey Willie: If you had won more games, you would have kept your job. It's called performance, and it is all that matters.
Hey Governor Paterson: If you run the state better, you will be able to keep your job. It's called perfromance, and it is all that matters.
For all Democrats who are blaming their electoral woes on racism: Your employers will decide this November or next whether or not you keep your jobs. Perhaps you should concentrate on performance, rather than claiming victimization. Performance is all that matters.
Just ask Jackie Robinson.

Dumb and Dumber...
New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin has suggested that the slow recovery and rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina -- which has prevented many black former residents from returning -- is part of a plan to change the racial makeup and political leadership of his and other cities.
"Ladies and gentlemen, what happened in New Orleans could happen anywhere," Nagin said at a dinner sponsored by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, a trade group for newspapers that target black readers. "They are studying this model of natural disasters, dispersing the community and changing the electoral process in that community."
Well, Nagin tried his best to keep New Orleans a "chocolate city" - as Katrina raged, he let hundreds of buses that could have been used to evacuate folks sit idle instead...maybe now he's learning that killing black people in order to keep a city black is not the best way to go about it....?
Now that even lefty newspapers such as the New York Times are coming out to question some of the dire threats made by global warming "experts"; these experts have responded by...making even more dire threats:
At the leading edge of climate pessimism, the prognoses were frankly apocalyptic. "Before this century is over, billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic," predicted James Lovelock, a renowned environmental scientist.
In his book The Weather Makers, Tim Flannery puts aside his essential optimism for long enough to write: "If humans pursue a business-as-usual course for the first half of this century, I believe the collapse of civilisation due to climate change becomes inevitable."
Note to readers: "Breeding Pairs" is a fantasy term used by geeky science-types whom have never stood within three feet of a girl; their dream is to be the one of the last men on Earth, forced into a situation where all remaining women survivors (beautiful ones, naturally) would be forced to copulate with them in order to propogate the species. Trust me, our "renowned enviornmental scientist" James Lovelock has already run this through his head more than once; methinks he already has his LoveShack set up near the pole....
And who's dumber than movie critics?
Box office data this year suggests that filmgoers seem to be having a great time at the multiplexes. The critics, by contrast, may be shopping around for a new line of work.
In reviewing "300" last week, for example, A.O. (Tony) Scott of the New York Times, said the movie was "as violent as 'Apocalypto' and twice as stupid."
The situation underscores yet again the disconnect between the cinematic appetites of critics vs. those of the popcorn crowd....Scott, the Times critic, for example, predicted that the movie would become "an object of camp derision," ....
Kenneth Turan"s review in the Los Angeles Times, basically a prolonged wince, also noted that "300" was "Apocalypto" violent," adding, "There is a limit to how often you can see soldiers speared and hacked to death and still stay involved."
Perhaps, but the first week"s "involvement" totaled some $70 million at the box office.
So several questions present themselves: If the established media want to stay relevant, should their critics make a passing attempt to tune in to pop culture? In short, should at least someone on the reviewing staff try to be relevant...
NO and NO! It is the responsiblity of the proletariat to listen to their cultural betters in the mainstream media! Obviously, Mr. Scott in the New York Times has not been derisive enough in his criticism!
But guest columnist Neal Stephenson in today's Times points out three (liberal) social issues within "300" that most critics we unable to stomach:
• “300” is not sufficiently ironic. It takes its themes (duty, loyalty, sacrifice, the preservation of Western civilization against enormous odds) too seriously to, well, be taken seriously.
• “300” is campy — meaning that many things about it can be read as sexual double entendres — yet the filmmakers don’t show sufficient awareness of this.
• All of the good guys are white people and many of the bad guys are brown. (How this could have been avoided in a film about Spartans versus Persians is never explained; the distinctly non-Greek viewers at my showing seemed to have no trouble placing themselves in the sandals of ancient Spartans.)
So film critics are no longer really reviewers of the celluiod realm, but instead are social commentators trying to point out non-politically correct entertainment that must be avoided at all costs. Er, sorry folks, it seems as if nobody in the "real world" seems to give a sh*t what you guys think about...anything.
And what's Sunday Stupidity without mentioning at least one politician? Regarding Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick , simply file this one under "When you elect a Democrat, you get what you voted for":
When Patrick, 50, entered office, he decided to lease a 2007 Cadillac DTS as his official state car, replacing the Ford Crown Victoria his predecessor used; it cost the state an additional $543 each month....
.... a list that includes the purchase of $12,000 drapes as part of a $27,000 renovation of the governor's office at taxpayer expense, the hiring of a chief of staff for his wife, and attempts to help a controversial mortgage company that has been accused of predatory lending.
"I do have to tell you, parking is a problem. It's hard to find room for both the helicopter and the Cadillac," referring to criticism about his use of state helicopters earlier in his term, which Patrick has defended.
Ah yes, the double-standard of the not-so-bright limousine liberals...

RFK Jr: Another Kennedy, Another Female Corpse, Another Excuse
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shamelessly told a crowd of mourners at tragic wife Mary Richardson Kennedy’s funeral yesterday that her suicide was not his fault.
“I know I did everything I could to help her,” Kennedy said in his eulogy at St. Patrick Church in Bedford, where attendees included Chevy Chase, Larry David, Glenn Close and Susan Sarandon.
Mary, 52, hanged herself Wednesday in the barn of her Westchester mansion. Kennedy spent most of his eulogy lavishing praise on his wife — although he noted that she harbored a grudge against him.
“She was a SoHo girl . . . She blamed me for taking her away from her profession [to raise a family],” he said, referring to her former career as an architectural designer in Manhattan.
Sound familiar? Reminds me of a different Kennedy who deflected blame for a damsel's death:
In his 532-page book, True Compass, the late Ted Kennedy admitted to "inexcusable" behaviour after the Chappaquiddick car crash, saying that he was dazed, scared and panicked following the 1969 accident in which he drove off a bridge and left his passenger to drown.
He said he made "terrible decisions" in leaving the scene with Mary Jo Kopechne still in the car although he continued to be vague – as he was at the time – over why it took him 10 hours to report the accident on an island off Massachusetts.
Which leads us to WIlliam Kennedy Smith, who - after a night of pounding drinks with Uncle Teddy - decided to have some good old-fashioned Kennedy fun, even if the participants were unwilling:
The incident began on the evening of Good Friday, March 29, 1991, when Smith, then 30 years old, was in a bar in Palm Beach, Florida, with his uncle, Senator Ted Kennedy, and his cousin Patrick Kennedy.
Smith met a 29-year-old woman, Patricia Bowman and another young woman at the bar. The four then went to a nearby house owned by the Kennedy family. Smith and 29-year-old Bowman walked along the beach.
Bowman alleged that Smith raped her; Smith testified that the sex was consensual. Although three women were willing to testify that Smith had sexually assaulted them in incidents in the 1980s not reported to the police, their testimony was excluded. Smith was acquitted of all charges.
Teddy gets away with murder, William with rape...and RFK Jr.? Accused of nothing, he gets defensive - at his wife's funeral, no less. Not a criminal, just a cad, and likely a poor excuse for a husband.
Lesson for the ladies: Frolic with a Kennedy, and you wind up dishonored and/or dead. And blamed for it at your funeral...

Is the DNC Racist?
"This state is not in the trouble that Michigan is in, Pennsylvania is in and Massachusetts is in, but you don’t see in those other states this crescendo about getting rid of the governor just because we’re in a recession"
"And I submit that the same kind of treatment that Deval Patrick is receiving right now in Massachusetts, and I’m receiving; the way in which the New York State Senate was written about, calling them a bunch of people with thick necks...that we’re not in the post-racial period."
So what do we make of this report from MSNBC?
National Democratic Party leaders have asked Gov. David Paterson to consider withdrawing from the 2010 governor's race, according to two senior New York Democratic advisers.
The New York Times, which originally reported the request on its Web site, said that it was President Barack Obama who asked Paterson to withdraw.
Patrick Gaspard, Obama's political director, was scheduled to meet with the governor on Monday, one of the sources said...
The Times reports:
“The message the White House wanted to send — that it wants Paterson to step aside — was delivered,” said the Democratic operative,, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions were intended to be confidential. “He is resistant.”
This is an "extraordinary intervention", to quote the Times. Seems to me Obama is afraid that key administration critic Rudy Giuliani will go for, and win, the governor's slot, allowing him years to knock the Obama policy platform from a high-visibility position, and perhaps setting up a White House challenge in 2012.
Obama is asking Paterson to fall on his sword for the good of the party and more importantly, the good of The One. The question is - is Obama asking the same of any other white politician who is in danger in the off-year elections this November? Surely, if Jon Corzine loses New Jersey in six weeks, there will be quite a buzz about a blue state tossing a governor who has aligned himself directly with the president . Has he asked Corzine to step down and allow another Democrat to run in his stead? What about the ever-fading Craig Deeds in Virginia? Or, to use Paterson's references, the extremely unpopular Jennifer Granholm of Michigan?
Can't find any reports about Obama and the DNC stepping into any of these races (although there are always rumors about another Jersey Jerk-Around, as perfected by The Torch).
By Paterson's own definition of racism, don't these actions make the DNC a racist organization? Would Paterson call Obama "not a post-racial" president?
So sad, sad, to see Obama and the DNC trying to keep the black man down in New York. Paterson wants to prove he can be elected (he was moved in after Spitzer, remember) by the people of New York, and yet his party and its leadership are willing to sacrifice this hard-working black man's dreams, while they refuse to ask the same of equally damaging white Democrats.
Obama and the DNC: Racist?
I guess you would have to ask Governor Paterson...you know how I feel...

Obama Parties While America Burns
A White House aide tells POLITICO44 that Obama (O’Bama?) will be hosting two St. Patrick’s Day bashes ...... at the White House Tuesday night. The theme at the WH will be green all day. Starting at the top o the morning--or more like 11a.m. -- Obama and Joe Biden will meet with the Taoiseach of Ireland in the Oval Office. A little while later, they'll attend a Shamrock Ceremony in the Roosevelt Room.
After meeting with the Northern Ireland officials, Obama will travel to the Capitol where he will deliver remarks at Speaker Nancy Pelosi's St. Paddy's Day lunch. Then, later in the evening, Obama will deliver the remarks at not one but two St. Patrick's Day receptions at the WH, where he's hosting Irish American lawmakers and other Irish Americans, a White House aide said.
My taxes have gone so high I've gone from single-malt scotch to turpentine. Obama is taking so much of my money he can afford to throw multiple parties with it. Hmmm....change, but not a lot of hope.
Well, maybe Obama can at least tell us how much fun he had on Thursday, when he jets out to LA to appear on the Jay Leno show. He's the first sitting president ever to do so. Another first! Can you imagine George Bush going on Leno a few weeks after 9/11?
Well, all that partying can make one tired. And after all, he did do his best work on the campaign trail, and with his approval ratings sinking like a lead balloon, maybe a good yuk-fest with the slack-chinned wonder will give him an extra point or two.
But I don't know. Even the AP has got a list of complaints, which maybe they wouldn't have had if they had told the truth about Obama in the first place. Still, gotta love their self-referential style:
Behind the headlines, the Associated Press wrestles with bizarre administrative hurdles and jaw-dropping contradictions trying to use the law...
Disappointed? Chin up! At least you guys will get an invite to the parties...

Dangers of The Democratic Party's "Incumbent Purge"
Heartening, to a certain extent. Seeing these bloated egoists drop like flies is the clearest indication yet that they were facing certain electoral elimination in 2010; leading us to believe that things any look worse for the Democrats right now than anyone is letting on.
But there is a danger here for the Republicans. The Democrats now have the opportunity to replace these dead weights with more popular politicians who do not have ties to our universally loathed Congress or to an extremely weakened president. They can run as "outsiders", promising to "change the way we do business in Washington", while falling immediately subservient to Pelosi or Reid once they cross the DC threshold.
The Dems are already lining up these candidates; in Connecticut they have popular Attorney General Richard Blumenthal primed to run for Dodd's seat; in Colorado the jostling may have already begun between Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, and Congressman Ed Perlmutter. In Massachuttess, a strong showing by Scott Brown later this month might be all the impetus Deval Patrick needs to call it quits so the party may replace him with a more acceptable candidate.
The Republicans must not get giddy here. When election season comes 'round, they must pound home the fact that even these "new and improved" Democratic candidates are votes for cap and trade, tighter healthcare restrictions, more deficit spending, and higher taxes. They'll talk like rebels in November and lie down like dogs (for Pelosi) in January.
Maybe we should adopt The Who's classic anthem, "Won't get fooled again" as a national campaign song, juxtaposing it against the faces of these new Democrats who tell us that this time, they'll listen to the electorate, keep their promises, and follow the Constitution...
We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone...
...And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed....
... Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

Another Kennedy Rises To Save Us From Ourselves!
But lo! While we thought Patrick was The Last Scion, it turns out there yet another heir to the throne, one who is currently considering a run for office in Massachusetts:
Joseph P. Kennedy III, one of the twin sons of former Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, may run this fall if Democratic Rep. William Delahunt decides against seeking re-election in his South Shore and Cape Cod district.
Kennedy, 29, "has been considering it but he hasn't made a decision," said the Democrat, who demanded anonymity to speak about private conversations with the father and son.
The younger Kennedy did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School who works as a prosecutor in Barnstable County, near his family's Cape Cod compound. [photo here]
So Joe III, with all of the life experience that 29 years in an rich kid's bubble brings you, thinks by virtue of his name he can commandeer a seat in a district where Scott Brown whomped Martha Coakley by a surprisingly large margin. In a year where backlash against the establishment may be at an historic high, Little Joe thinks he can win by...invoking the name synonymous with the establishment.
Great. Go for it, kid. If you're not smart enough to realize you'll be waling into a buzz saw in November, then you're certainly not smart enough to represent anybody as their Congressman. Better for all that you be rid of that notion sooner rather than later...

Republican Win In Old Bridge, New Jersey Holds National Lessons
Old Bridge
Mayor One 4-Year Term
Patrick M. Gillespie (D)* 4,505
x Owen Henry (R) 5,057
Old Bridge
Council-At-Large Three 4-Year Terms
Edward Testino (D)* 4,160
John F. Gillick (D) 4,121
Kelly Ellis-Foster (D) 4,104
x Brian J. Cahill (R)* 5,232
x Eleanor "Debbie" Walker (R) 5,035
x James H. Anderson (R) 4,955
A surprise in Old Bridge and a narrow victory in Franklin highlighted Tuesday’s election results.
It was a sweeping victory for the Republicans in Old Bridge.
Republican mayoral candidate Owen Henry received 5,330 votes, defeating Democratic Mayor Patrick Gillespie, who received 4,780.
The Republicans also will take control of the Township Council. Republicans James H. Anderson, Eleanor “Debbie” Walker and incumbent Brian J. Cahill defeated Democrats John F. Gillick and incumbents Kelly Ellis-Foster and Edward Testino.
Henry said the Rebublicans are thrilled with the election results.
“The Democrats have been in control for 14 years and now the Democratic octopus has been broken,” Henry said... .The residents came out and spoke loud and clear. We had a tremendous amount of support....
“We were on the right side of the issues and ran a clean campaign and I think people saw that. We came with a simple message that we were business people and would take a commonsense approach to government. I am ecstatic and honored to be part of the process.”
What lessons can be applied nationally here?
-Voters understand the facts - perhaps the biggest issue in the campaign was the recent vote by the Democratic mayor and Council to give full pension and retirement benefits to any municipal employee who works a mere 15 years for the Township, down from 25. That's a bribe to the municipal employees that will come out of the townspeople's pocket, and everyone knew it. Pensions as an electoral game-changer? Uh-huh...
-Thuggery doesn't scare off honest Americans. You can shatter windows, abuse women, and engage in childish vandalism as the Old Bridge Democrats did, but it is a useless tactic against a free and strong people. Worse - it is counterproductive. Are national Republicans still too scared to tie the Democrats to their beloved "Occupy" movement yet?
-inspire the grassroots. I am a grass root. So root, that I have no dealings with my local Republican party whatsoever. I just talk to my friends and neighbors about the importance of voting and why I vote Republican, and how their choices affect their own lives. Personally, I likely got 10-12 people to the polls, maybe more. A lot in an election decided by 500 votes.
-Jon Corzine must - must - be tied to Barack Obama. He's electoral poison here. Listening to the radio call-in shows last night, New Jersyans voiced overwhelming disgust with their former governor, with more than one Democrat coming out of the closet on the air to admit they had voted for Chris Christie and were glad. Wanna win New Jersey in 2012? Remind the voters what butt-buddies Corzine and Obama were. That's worth a few points in the polls, I guarantee it.
Which is why, if the Republicans nominate a wishy-washy compromiser to run for President in 2012, one who is afraid to point out the thuggery of the Left, one who vows not to tear down the system but to work within in, one that does not excite the ever-growing Republican base - Obama could win re-election. Without a clear, distinct choice, folks will go for the one they know - the one that carries their party affiliation.
The national Republican party ought to look at my little town in Jersey to see how it is done...
More "upset" Republican victories in Jersey here and here...

Democrats Take On The Catholic Church

Via sisu:
Pope Benedict met artists from around the world in the Sistine Chapel on Saturday and urged them to inject spirituality into their work, saying contemporary beauty was often 'illusory and deceitful," reports Reuters. Compare Papa Ratzi's open invitation to engage in an expansive search for truth with President Obama's secretive, craven attempts to use the art community as a tool of the state to propagandize his own not-so-hidden statist agenda.
Apt analogy. But one notices that the Democrats (now that they have finally obtained absolute power) have not only dropped all pretensions of piety (what church do the Obamas go to, anyway?), but they are launching full-scale broadsides against the Catholic Church and its bishops as they wrangle over taxpayer-funded abortions in the Senate health care bill.
And how ironic that a Kennedy would be on the front lines, fighting against everything that is good and decent in this world. Baby Patrick started the battle, but it looks like the Church might win the war:
Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin has banned Rep. Patrick Kennedy from receiving Communion, the central sacrament of the church, in Rhode Island because of the congressman's support for abortion rights, Kennedy said in a newspaper interview published Sunday.
The dispute between the two men began in October when Kennedy in an interview on CNSNews.com criticized the nation's Catholic bishops for threatening to oppose a massive expansion of the nation's health care system unless it included tighter restrictions on federally funded abortion.
Kennedy's allies in Congress are fighting back against the powers of good, as Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) talks about denying the Church its 1st Amendment rights:
She also said that religiously-affiliated groups like the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which had pushed for the Stupak provision, should be shut out of the process.
"Last I heard, we had separation of church and state in this country," she said. "I've got to say that I think the Catholic bishops and all of the other groups shouldn't have input."
Note the contrast to the Sistine Chapel statement. The Pope asks artists to inject spirituality into their work, the Obami ask themselves to take spirituality out of their work. The Church looks to open its arms to all in the search for truth and beauty, while Congress has turned to strict partisanship in order to exert control and limit input and opposition.
It is no surprise that these two institutions find themselves at odds. Truthfully, of course, Congress is completely within its rights to ignore the Church's wishes, and the Church is completely within its rights to deny communion to rabid Congressman.
But will the American people take a side in this fight? Has the hubris (and Constitutional disregard) of the Democratic party reached the point where it feels it can control the state and the people's primary religious organization? Are they operating under the belief that they can take down the church and destroy the religious right in one fell swoop, thus increasing the odds of their dreams of a permanent majority?
Well, over-reaching has been their specialty these past eleven months. Will they take on American Catholicism, and pit God's law against their own?
That's the road they seem to be travelling on...let's just hope they don't drag the rest of the nation down into hell with them...

Will Deval Patrick Go Down?
The Massachusetts secretary of state is reporting that turnout is heaviest in the suburbs — exactly where Republicans need it to be if Charlie Baker is going to upset Deval Patrick in the governor’s race. If there’s such a thing as a Republican enclave in Massachusetts, it’s the South Shore area, and one South Shore town already had 25 percent turnout before noon.
Also, a local PBS reporter appearing on my radio station this morning said that the voters she talked to in a downtown Boston precinct were breaking two-to-one for Charlie Baker.
If that's the way the undecideds break today...well, here we go with "uncharted territory" again...

The Kennedys are a Threat to us All!
Rep. Patrick Kennedy crashed his car near the Capitol early Thursday, and a police official said he appeared intoxicated. Kennedy said he had had no alcohol before the accident.
Kennedy appeared to be intoxicated when he crashed his car into a barrier on Capitol Hill early Thursday morning, said Louis P. Cannon, president of the Washington chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Cannon, who was not there, said the officers involved in the accident were instructed by an official “above the rank of patrolman” to take Kennedy home.
A letter written by a Capitol Police officer to Acting Chief Christopher McGaffin said Kennedy appeared to be staggering when he left the vehicle after the crash about 3 a.m. The letter was first reported by Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper.
Kennedy said he was late for a vote, officer Greg Baird said in the letter to McGaffin. Baird is acting chairman of the Capitol Hill chapter of the FOP police union. The last vote of the night had occurred almost six hours earlier.
Baird wrote McGaffin that two sergeants who responded to the accident conferred with the watch commander and were ordered to leave the scene.
He said that after the officers left, Capitol Police officials gave Kennedy a ride home.
Kennedy spent time at a drug rehabilitation clinic before he went to Providence College...
Certainly sounds like he was drunk; of course, Kennedy is apparently calling the police officers who came to his accident scene liars...is he taking notes from fellow police-hating Democrat Cynthia McKinney? Seems as if a bit of a cover-up was in the making; just like old times for the K-Clan! Oh, those wacky Kennedys will kill us all someday...!
Of course, the headline reads "Patrick Kennedy in Accident", with no mention made in the lead about his bizarre behavior as reported by police. Let's look at another story on the wire as a comparison:
Rumsfeld Heckled by Former CIA Analyst
"Why did you lie to get us into a war that caused these kind of casualties and was not necessary?" asked Ray McGovern, the former analyst, during a question-and-answer session.
"I did not lie," shot back Rumsfeld, who waved off security guards ready to remove McGovern from the hall at the Southern Center for International Studies....
Not one word about the impropriatey of a former CIA officer screaming like a nut at the Secretary of Defense? No mention about how this is part of a pattern of bizarre behavior ( leaker Mary McCarthy, B-list celebrity Valerie Plame, and now McGovern) by agents past and present of what is supposed to be the world's top-notch intelligence service?
Now, if it was a story about a Republican in a scandal, we would have gotten a long list of every Republican from Nixon to DeLay who has been involved in something tawdry. But psycho ex-CIA (mostly Democrat appointed) busting out of the closet everywhere? No, it is an anti-war story about Rumsfeld being heckled! Kennedy drunk? No, let's ignore the numerous police reports and lead with the Congressman's pre-released statement!
I don't know who makes me sicker - the substance-addicted Kennedys or their pathetic enablers in the media...
Is this ...an anti-war demonstrator at the Rumsfeld speech, a former CIA analyst, an escaped mental patient, or all of the above?

Would You Start A 5-18 Pitcher In Game 7 of the World Series?
And into this mess, when we need most a strong performance to help lead us from tyranny to triumph....we can choose one of the following starting pitchers for Game 7 :
- young upstart Michele Bachmann, more of a successful minor league player with a good inside fastball but questionable savvy,
-Solid veteran Rick Perry, who's career indicates he can get it done irregardlessof what dire circumstances surround him,
- or a lifetime 5-18 pitcher, who has spent most of his career pleading for a chance to get into the Big Game.
That losing pitcher is....Mitt Romney. The 5-18 record represents his record in elections. Jonathan Last on how The Man With No Constituency cannot seem to get it done, no matter how hard he tries, or how much he spends:
1994: MA Senate Republican primary: Romney 82%, John Lakian 18%1994: MA Senate general election: Ted Kennedy 58%, Romney 41%2002: MA Gubernatorial Republican primary: Romney runs unopposed2002: MA Gubernatorial general election: Romney 50%, Shannon O’Brien 45%2006: MA Gubernatorial primary: trailing in polls for the general election to Deval Patrick—a guy who’d never run for anything before—Romney declines to seek reelection. I’ll count this as a loss; you might be more charitable.2007: Presidential primaries: I won’t go state-by-state, but here’s the breakdown: Romney won only three states where the vote was a straight-up primary. Each of these wins was in a place where he had enormous legacy advantages: Michigan, where his father had been governor; Massachusetts, where he had been governor; and Utah, which is overwhelmingly Mormon. (He also won 8 caucus states, though the organizing rules there are much less indicative of electoral strength.)On other side of the ledger, Romney lost primaries in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, California, Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland. (He also lost a bunch of caucus states, but we won’t count those against him since we’re discounting his caucus wins.)Which means that in the 2008 cycle he went 3-16.
So back to baseball. Game 7 of the World Series, and you're the manager. Do you put in the guy who has never - ever - lost a game, or the loser with a laundry list of excuses and gripes, coming off of a 3-16 season?
It's a no-brainer. Just like our choice should be in 2012...

Stopping Anna Little's Momentum With Bogus Polling?
Depends on how you crunch the numbers. A poll released by Monmouth University has Pallone up over Little 53%-41% among likely voters. How likely? Voters who have voted in two general elections out of the last four, according to lead pollster Patrick Murry.
Really? So if you came out sixteen years ago to vote for Bill Clinton, then voted again for John Kerry in 2004, you are now a "likely voter", giving kudos to Frank Pallone.
Seems like a stretch. Actually, more like a reach, as in reaching for a predetermined outcome. Why else would you use a sample that is 53% Democratic in a district that is only 38% registered Democrat?
Over at MoreMonmouthMusings, Art Gallagher takes the poll apart:
Murray classifies a likely voter as someone who has voted in 2 of the last four general elections. Of the 333,519 registered voters in CD-6, 60,053 voted in 2 of the four last general elections; 23,750 (40%) Democrats, 27,791 (46%) Independents and 8,512 (14%) Republicans, according to GOP records of voter activity.
Of the 50, 463 registered Republicans in the district, 13, 744 voted in the primary last June. 38,266 voted in last year’s general election when we elected Governor Christie. 32, 086 voted in the 2006 mid-term election.
Of the 160,334 undeclared voters, 47,750 (30%) voted in last year’s gubernatorial election. 29,758 (18%) voted in the 2006 mid-term.
Given these numbers, Murray’s “random sample” seems flawed....
In other words, Murry is ignoring a resurgent Republican base, a right-tilting independent population, and a decidedly unenthusiastic Democratic party. Art re-runs the numbers with his methodology, and comes up with an 8% lead for Pallone - high, but not insurmountable.
And Art gets results - pollster Murry revised his figures and now presents a 51%-42% lead for Pallone, dropping his lead by 25%. Too late for the Jersey media, who gleefully used Murry's original set of numbers to pump Pallone and level Little.
And going unmentioned is Chris Christie's rout last year in Anna's so-called "solid Democratic" district:
Chris Christie (R) - 110,305 Votes - 54.7%
Jon Corzine (D) - 78,977 Votes = 39.2%
Chris Daggett (I) - 12,393 Votes - 6.1%
Interestingly,
...the enthusiasm and "buzz" for Little is easy to see by anyone who looks. For example, her "ground assault" in Hazlet, four weeks ago, caused motorists to slow down and rubberneck near her staging point. And this graph of the "Likes" on the two candidates' Facebook pages tells the story: Little's trend far exceeds Pallone's by any measure.
Nothing guaranteed, of course, but hope remains to rid ourselves of the self-proclaimed architect of ObamaCare. And perhaps we - and the media - should put less stock in polls conducted by universities (such as Monmouth) that have just recently received Pallone-directed pork, to the tune of $250,000...

Mayor of Seaside Arrested in Bar Brawl - Auditioning for Jersey Shore 2010?
In other words...everyone does it like that in Seaside. Including the mayor of neighboring Seaside Park, who got himself arrested by stepping in the middle of a fight between his kids, and the local cops while boozing it up at the Shore.
Classic Jersey, man:
The mayor of Seaside Park was arrested, along with his adult son and daughter, outside a nightclub in Seaside Heights, authorities said.
Mayor Thomas E. Connors was arrested with Anthony Connors, 23, and Lindsay Connors, 22, outside of Hemingway's Cafe, according to a statement released by Seaside Heights police.
Anthony Connors was being escorted from the bar by staff members, when police say he attempted to hit the staff members. Officers stopped Anthony Connors and placed him under arrest.
Police say Lindsay Connors, who began to interfere during her brother's arrest, striking a police officer on the arm and chest area, was then arrested.
As the bar's staff escorted out their father, Mayor Connors -- who had a minor injury on his face -- saw his children being taken into custody. Police say he, then, began to interfere on their behalf and was also arrested.
Anthony Connors was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Lindsay Connors was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with an arrest and simple assault. The mayor was charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an arrest.
Maybe Mayor Connors was auditioning for his own reality show? For all of the whining from the politically correct, Seaside Heights saw a spike in tourism (in a down year) after the world was made aware - by Ronnie and Sammi and Snooki - of the lawless, late Roman empire-type fun that could be had down at the Shore. With Chris Christie cutting state funding for every township and leaving them on their own, these guys have to come up with some additional revenue, pronto.
Still, this is a Class C scandal in Jersey. Without the boastful bribery, death threats, missing bodies, and illegal organ transplants, it's a one-day story at best.
Ah, but the Jersey joy of drunken brawling with family, cops, and bouncers. It's awesome - I know it, Pauli D knows it, Mayor Connors knows it, and now you know it...

Obama: Procrastinating Desperately on Afghanistan
Can we make that 22?
With his attendance at fundraisers for Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts today — boy, there's a pair of popular incumbents — President Obama has now attended seven fundraisers since Gen. Stanley McChrystal submitted his request for additional troops in Afghanistan.
Imagine if a Republican president was jetting around the nation to help unpopular conservatives win re-election during a time of multiple national crises. Would the mongrels of the media be braying! But under The Rule of The One, the responsibility of the president to protect and serve the good people who elected him is superseded by the president's "responsibility" (desire?) to maintain ironclad power over them.
Hope and change, baby!
