Katie Couric: Americans "Seething With Hatred"

The anchoress of the last-place nightly new program gives us a combination of ignorance, lies, and loathing while committing journalistic malpractice:

...Couric discussed 2010 in review with a panel, and among Couric’s biggest concerns about 2010 was the controversy surrounding the Park51 Islamic Cultural Center project.

“The bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories to surface,” Couris said. “Of course, a lot of noise was made about the Islamic Center, mosque, down near the World Trade Center, but I think there wasn’t enough sort of careful analysis and evaluation of where this bigotry toward 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, and how this seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims, which I think is so misdirected, and so wrong — and so disappointing.”

Awwww....Katie is disappointed in her fellow Americans because we are "seething with hatred" towards Muslims. Odd that in her role as a journalist, she couldn't provide any evidence for this slanderous assertion. So I did a little digging myself, and didn't have to go very far to find a recent "hate crimes" report. Now this is for New York City only - obviously not indicative of the nation as a whole - but I would think since Couric references the Ground Zero Mosque as an apparent ground zero for our mindless rage, the 2010 New York bias crime figures would reflect her position.

Guess again - The
NY Post, via Contentions:

Hate crimes across New York state jumped 14 percent in 2009, led by an increase in attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions, state records released yesterday show.

Anti-Semitic incidents, which made up 37 percent of the reported hate crimes, were up 15 percent in one year, from 219 in 2008 to 251 in 2009.

The report found anti-black crimes, 21 percent of the total, were down slightly from 147 in 2008 to 144 in 2009. Anti-white hate crimes increased from 21 to 29.

Crimes motivated by anti-Muslim sentiment rose from eight to 11.

reports of hate crimes against Muslims in New York is "one of the most disturbing stories to surface" in 2011? What about 250+ reports of Jew-bashing, Katie? That doesn't seem to bother you much at all....why? Have a problems with the Jews, Katie? Or do you simply feel that these attacks are an appropriate backlash against American Jews for all of Israel's "sins"?

If Katie didn't know these facts before she made her statement, than she is too ill-informed to be considered a journalist. If she knew these facts and warped them in order to mask the rising tide of anti-semitism - something she may or may not approve of - then she has no right anchoring a network news show, and should be released from her contract at CBS immediately (no tears there).

And I can't imagine she's helping her job status by viciously insulting the very customers - the average American - her show needs in order to survive. And with the network's news department's prestige and integrity at stake, I can't imagine they can afford to keep rolling this journalistic joke out every evening at 6P EST.

But there's a place for anchors and hosts like Katie, a magical network they can go to where they can let their prejudice flag fly, where any lie, no matter how defamatory, is acceptable in the name of the cause, and where she can sneer at her nation and its citizens with oozing contempt, with no concern about viewership or even making a profit for her bosses.

It's called MSNBC. And my 2011 prediction is we'll see Katie anchoring her new hatecast from there before the year is out...
