Hey, fellow Jerseyites - if you want to get rid of the smell, sometimes you gotta take out the trash. So when you vote to re-elect slimey scum like Robert Menendez to the Senate, don't be surprised when your state is permeated by the stench of polical corruption, and the accompanying dysfunction and disrespect that inevitably comes along with it.
Today's New York Post editorial concludes with the following:
Something doesn't pass the smell test here.
New Jersey and slime.
Perfect together.
I would say we deserve better, but based on this state's choices, we probably don't. So what is Robert Menendez up to now? Why, breaking every campaign promise, and reuniting himself with the disgraced associates and lobbyists he pretended to distance himself from during the fall campaign. We'll let the Post take us through it:
The Senate on Thursday passed a new crackdown that regulates the relationship between legislators and lobbyists. Just four days before that, The Record of Hackensack reported that Menendez, after being sworn in for a full term this month, was the guest of honor at a secret private party - funded by corporate and other donors at $5,000 each - hosted by a fledgling lobbyist named Michael Hutton.
Hutton, who recently opened his own firm, happens to be Menendez's former chief of staff.
Most of those footing the bill were Hutton's clients - including a foundation run by Hackensack University Medical Center, which by law is barred from political activity. Except that everyone involved insists - with a straight face - that "this was not a political event."
Among the guests at the party were two less-than-savory people with whom the senator very publicly cut ties during last year's Senate campaign.
One was Donald Scarinci - who stepped aside as a top adviser after a tape recording surfaced on which he was heard demanding that a government doctor hire another physician as a favor to Menendez.
Another was Joseph Simunovich, chairman of the state Turnpike Authority - who quit as Menendez's finance director in the wake of an ethics probe into alleged favors provided to a turnpike contractor. [more on his misdeeds here - ed.]
Apparently, Menendez, Scarinci and Simunovich no longer feel they have to keep their distance from each other.
....if Michael Hutton's corporate-funded private party for his old boss was entirely on the up and up, why was it kept so carefully hidden from public view - to the point of being kept off of Menendez's schedule?
I'll answer the Post's rhetorical question - Menedez played the whole electorate for suckers this fall, calling all the corruption charges against him "dirty campaigning", then, when safely ensconsed back in office by the very suckers - er, voters - he lied to, he continued his corrupt practices, knowing that he is virtually untouchable in a Senate where one seat change could swing the balance of power.
And kudos to the small-town Record, reporting stories where the big media fears to tread. Mike Kelly reports:
SADLY, this is how politics works. Ten days ago, Robert Menendez was sworn in as a U.S. Senator. It was a joyful day, chock full of pomp, parties, and at least one promise by Menendez “to dedicate myself to standing up for New Jersey and building a better America for each and every one of us.”
But one party, at the swanky 701 Pennsylvania Restaurant in Washington, D.C., was kept secret from each and every one of us, except 175 close friends of Bob Menendez.
The party was hosted by a lobbyist.
And Kelly reminds us of how stupid we are supposed to act:
Whenever a lobbyist throws a party on behalf of any politician, voters have a right to wonder why. Lobbyists, after all, are in the business of currying favors...
Most important, why would any self-respecting elected official go along with this sort of questionable activity? Why invite suspicion?
Surely Menendez knows that the Senate, responding to recent scandals involving lobbyists, is weighing tough new ethics rules that would likely ban such parties.
“Maybe he thought of it as a last fling, his version of a bachelor party before the new rules,” one Senate staffer suggested.
Robert L. Torre, the foundation’s executive director, conceded that non-profit firms are barred from political activity. But this was not a political event, he said.
“It was hosted by a third party,” Torre said.
That third party is Michael Hutton, the lobbyist.
In case you wondered.
So here is what we are expected to believe:
The secret party was nothing special. The corporations who paid for it expect no favors – they simply want to show how much they love and admire Bob Menendez.
As for Menendez, he wants us all to know that he is completely above reproach even though he did not disclose that a lobbyist set up a reception for him. As his spokesman noted: “The Senator attends events all the time around Washington, sponsored by a wide range of groups, and it has no impact on him at all.”
Fine. Maybe people really believe that.
Or maybe Menendez is laughing all the way to the bank with his ill-gotten gains, counting on New Jersey residents to be stupid enough to believe these parties thrown on his behalf by high-end donors have "no impact on him" whatsoever.
But based on the fact that this lying, cheating, sleazy clown was re-elected by the people of this state, maybe he has good reason to laugh....

Senator Menendez Loves Him Some Teenage Whores...
It was bad enough, when we first reported on this story, to find out that Senator Bob Menendez (D-La Raza) was cheating Dominican prostitutes out of money:
Two women from the Dominican Republic told The Daily Caller that Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez paid them for sex earlier this year.
In interviews, the two women said they met Menendez around Easter at Casa de Campo, an expensive 7,000 acre resort in the Dominican Republic. They claimed Menendez agreed to pay them $500 for sex acts, but in the end they each received only $100.
One woman said Menendez wooed her with compliments like “beautiful” before they slept together. The other woman recounted, with apparent bitterness, receiving from an intermediary only $100 of the $500 she had been promised.
“He lies,” she said of Menendez. “He says one thing and does another.”
But is seems as if - to quote the Beastie Boys - that the girlies he likes are underage, which got the FBI interested as well:
Documents published online for the first time Thursday indicate that the FBI opened an inquiry into New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez on August 1, 2012, focusing on repeated trips he took to the Dominican Republic with longtime campaign contributor and Miami eye doctor Salomon Melgen. TheDC reported in November that Menendez purchased the service of prostitutes in that Caribbean nation at a series of alcohol-fueled sex parties.
Information made available to (ABC News senior investigative producer) Rhonda Schwartz and Carrie Levine (research director at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) at that time included allegations that some of Menendez’s prostitutes were as young as 16. The source also alleged that Sen. Menendez was taking “non-authorized trips” to the Dominican Republic, suggesting that he may have been evading Senate Ethics committee rules covering disclosures when third parties pay for a senator’s travel.
On Sept. 11, 2012, the documents indicate, the same source who provided information to Levine and Schwartz also sent an FBI Special Agent in Miami what he described as “the testimony of one of the girls.”
“I have in my possession the original written in her own hand,” the source wrote. “She’s 19 now, but took part in private parties with Senator Menendez being only 16.”

Racist Pot, Calling The "Tea" Kettle Racist
When your whole career has been built upon the spelling of your last name and the ethnic identity it presupposes, it is no surprise that every action is seen through the prism of race. Thus it is no surprise that supporters of New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez (D-La Raza) are playing the race card against the New Jersey Tea Party:
New Jersey Democrats are coming out with guns blazing against a tea party-led effort to recall Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez, with the state party chairman going so far as to brand the campaign racist.
Last week, newly minted Democratic Chairman John Wisniewski blasted the recall campaign as extremist, saying that it was no accident that it was targeting Menendez, the only Hispanic in the Senate.
"These are radical people who chose Menendez off of a list of Democrats because of the sound of his last name.”...
Radical? Who's radical, and who's a racist? Let's look at Menendez's record:
...Sen. Menendez just held a recent book signing at...the National Council of La Raza...
Menendez forced a $473K earmark into the "stimulus" bill to support anti-American Hispanic hate group La Raza ("The Race") while simultaneously voting to raise our taxes?
Sen. Menendez (D-N.J.) has put a "hold" on legislation to reauthorize the E-Verify workplace verification program....When it comes to favoring foreign workers (and the greedy employers who use them to depress wages) over struggling American workers, Sen. Menendez has no shame....
And here's a story on how Menendez voted in support of the ugly "General Betray-us" ad published by MoveOn...
Senator Menendez (D-Illegal Immigrants) is sh*tting bricks right now. His approval among his Hispanic "base" is only around 30%, the state is turning more purple by the day, and the most overtaxed state in the Union is mounting a recall movement to turn his sorry ass out. What to do? Scream "racism!", and hope it reverberates.
And this might have worked, 2-4 years ago. But the reason New Jersey has revolted against the Democrats is that they have lived under socialism for the last four years, and they have seen the destruction it has wrought, for the state and for each of its residents personally. They know that Menendez (D-Liberal Idiots) is representative of what they have now forsaken, and they want him out now, before he does any more damage to the state and to the nation.
The cry of racism is seen as a desperation ploy, and it has been suitably ignored. Menendez is now further weakened, and represents another opportunity for a Republican pick-up in a state where residents are proving they are faster learners than their West Coast counterparts...

"...for New Jersey, scandal has hit a critical mass..."
Incumbent New Jersey Senator Robert Menedez (D-NJ), is feeling the heat from this blue state; whens the last time you saw a story lead (from the Asbury Park Press) like the one below?
It may be a tough time for U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez to be a Democrat.
Menendez, seeking his first full Senate term, has slipped in the polls as Gov. Corzine grapples with rising taxes, former Democratic power broker John A. Lynch Jr. awaits sentencing on federal corruption charges, and fallen Democratic Gov. James E. McGreevey tells all in his book, "The Confession."
Menendez now trails Republican challenger Thomas H. Kean Jr. by six percentage points among likely voters, a new Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey newspaper poll shows.
Kean was supported by 44 percent of likely voters, compared with 38 percent for Menendez. Fourteen percent said they were undecided, and 3 percent backed another candidate, according to the poll.
As much as I despise Menendez's Hugo Chavez-like view of America and our President; I believe our leftist Senator is taking the fall for everything else going horribly south in New Jersey - and the so-called experts concur:
Jennifer E. Duffy, editor of the Washington D.C.-based Cook Political Report, said the Republican's lead would normally be very surprising for the Democrat-leaning state — except for everything else going on.
"It's New Jersey. It's blue. It's a terrible year for Republicans. Why is this race in single digits?" Duffy asked. "But for New Jersey, scandal has hit a critical mass. You have the (former) state senator (Lynch) who pleaded guilty, you have Gov. McGreevey out there again, which brings back memories of the "I am a gay American speech.' And yes, people associate (Menendez's home of) Hudson County with corruption."
And here's a national note for all of those incumbant Republicans running in tight races: Run with your party and President, not against them:
Menendez's campaign has attempted to link Kean with Bush and the unpopular war in Iraq. But Kean polled better or even with Menendez on Iraq, homeland security funding and immigration policy. On the question of who has higher ethical standards, 29 percent of the likely voters preferred Kean, compared with 13 percent for Menendez.
"Menendez has tried to paint Kean with the Bush paintbrush. Clearly, that's not working," said Bridget Harrison, a Montclair State University political science professor.
I smell a trend.... too bad for the Democrats the elections weren't held in late August - but Rove, like any good poker player, knows when to hedge his bets, and when to raise the ante...

It's Getting Late Early for Menendez in New Jersey...
...or why else would his people be busting out the race card already? True, some in New Jersey were pushing that meme a few weeks back, but here come the heavy hitters - via Enlighten New Jersey:
Jon Corzine’s former campaign blogger and “progressive” political gadfly is blaming recent revelations about Bob Menendez on racism:
"NJ Press in a Feeding Frenzy (Matt Stoller) - The NJ press and political establishment is simply racist. That's why Menendez is constantly painted as 'perceived as corrupt' without proof, and Kean is considered a man with integrity, despite clear dishonesty and shaking down corporate executives for campaign cash. Way to go gossip mongers!Stoller offers no proof for his outrageous claim, other than the fact that the press has just begun to scratch the surface of corruption cases involving Bob Menendez. "
Back in December when Governor Corzine appointed Menendez to the Senate the New York Times wrote: "There have been 75 corruption indictments in New Jersey over the last four years. The public has a right to yearn for a break from the past, and Mr. Menendez does not represent a clean slate."
Are we to believe the editors of the New York Times are racist too?
Well, I'll be shocked if they endorse Kean, but certainly the Times realized when Corzine made this ill-advised appointment that there could be trouble down the road for Menendez. Seems like Stoller is desperate to protect the judgement of his old boss, and if that means crying "racism", then Stoller has no problem with it - hey, when's the last time the Democrats actually tried to win an election by bringing people together instead of underscoring their differences, anyway?
And speaking of lies, and Menendez, I picked up this beauty of a letter to a local New Jersey paper the other day (although it is dated June 23rd 2006):
MENENDEZ VOTES AGAINST HEALTH BENEFITS PACKAGE FOR NEW JERSEY SMALL BUSINESS
As a small business owner suffering with double digit health insurance premium increases for my employees, I contacted Senator Menendez to seek his support of the Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act (S.1955) which would have allowed small business to form groups to purchase insurance at the discounted rates that large corporations enjoy.
I was not surprised when the Senator voted with the rest of his party to prevent the bill from becoming law, even though it had majority support. However I was appalled when I received a letter from the Senator espousing the benefits of the bill as if he supported it.
In his letter he said, “As you may know there are an estimated 1.2 million New Jerseyans – and 46 million Americans – who are uninsured and those numbers continue to rise. Most people in the Untied States who have health insurance obtain it through their own and a family member’s employer as a workplace benefit. Unfortunately, small business owners are far less likely to provide health insurance to their workers, and almost half of the uninsured in America are employed by small businesses. This is a serious problem facing our health care system and I believe Congress has a responsibility to support small businesses, the engine or our economy, so that they can afford to offer the health insurance their employees need.”
Well, I do know that. What I don’t understand is why since the Senator apparently also knows it too, why he would vote against the bill. Why would he vote against it and then try to lead me to believe that he supported it?
I was disappointed that the Senator did not support me and thousands or other New Jersey small business owners in providing better and more affordable health insurance to our employees. Worse, I am deeply offended by his duplicity and his distain for the intelligence of his constituents.

What more of Menedez's sleaze? ...lifetime Menendez pal and highly politically connected attorney, Donald Scarinci, verbally muscling a psychiatrist and former FBI informant, Dr. Oscar Sandoval, into rehiring another psychiatrist, Dr. Vincente Ruiz (who Sandoval had previously fired) to be a full partner with him in working on Hudson County contracts for psychiatric care.
On the tape, Scarinci is clearly heard requested this all as a favor to Bob Menendez. The implication of Scarcini’s "request" was that if Sandoval didn’t go along, he ran the risk of losing those Hudson County contracts....
Although Menedez has now "severed ties" with Scarinci; it seems like even he knows it is just a matter of time before the next "shoe" drops. Trochilus notes with disdain this New York Times story which basically hands the Senate to the Democrats (stay home, likely Republican voters! No need to cast your vote!!); seems like they are ignoring the Menendez story, as well as the meltdown of Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Gateway Pundit reports, linking to local blogger Pubdef:
Black Businessmen Raise Funds for Talent, Give McCaskill "F" on Issues
Republican Sen. Jim Talent continues his push to make inroads with black voters. A group of African-American business leaders held a breakfast fundraiser for Talent this morning at the offices of Midwestern Construction Company in old north St. Louis.
While Talent made only a couple of indirect mentions of his Democratic challenger, State Auditor Claire McCaskill, his supporters took a more direct approach. Darryl Jones held up a glossy poster which read: "...Let's See Claire's Report Card", an answer to the NAACP's report card which is often referenced by McCaskill supporters.
On this report card, paid for by Jones and Kirkwood, McCaskill scored F's in three categories relating to black St. Louis and an F minus in the more general "Fighting for Our Communities" category (click here to see the card).
It's hard to tell if these black businessmen are actually in agreement with the Republican agenda or just have a sense which way the political winds are blowing, and are staying tight with present and future Senator Talent.
But if McCaskill cannot even drum up strong support within what is supposed to be her "natural" base, then the candidacy is doomed, as is Menedez's, as is the liberal fantasy of retaking the Senate come this November...
UPDATE: Looks like the Times knows its place; here's a puff-piece on Menendez (the Cuban angle; it's always about race...sigh...) that paints him as heroic and his Republican opposition as simpleminded conservative racists (gee, that's a new twist...). One interesting nugget, however:
...the money raised in Florida for his current campaign amounts to almost as much as Mr. Kean has raised over all from political action committees in this race.
The Times tells us this is not important, because -

Jon Corzine’s former campaign blogger and “progressive” political gadfly is blaming recent revelations about Bob Menendez on racism:
"NJ Press in a Feeding Frenzy (Matt Stoller) - The NJ press and political establishment is simply racist. That's why Menendez is constantly painted as 'perceived as corrupt' without proof, and Kean is considered a man with integrity, despite clear dishonesty and shaking down corporate executives for campaign cash. Way to go gossip mongers!Stoller offers no proof for his outrageous claim, other than the fact that the press has just begun to scratch the surface of corruption cases involving Bob Menendez. "
Back in December when Governor Corzine appointed Menendez to the Senate the New York Times wrote: "There have been 75 corruption indictments in New Jersey over the last four years. The public has a right to yearn for a break from the past, and Mr. Menendez does not represent a clean slate."
Are we to believe the editors of the New York Times are racist too?
Well, I'll be shocked if they endorse Kean, but certainly the Times realized when Corzine made this ill-advised appointment that there could be trouble down the road for Menendez. Seems like Stoller is desperate to protect the judgement of his old boss, and if that means crying "racism", then Stoller has no problem with it - hey, when's the last time the Democrats actually tried to win an election by bringing people together instead of underscoring their differences, anyway?
And speaking of lies, and Menendez, I picked up this beauty of a letter to a local New Jersey paper the other day (although it is dated June 23rd 2006):
MENENDEZ VOTES AGAINST HEALTH BENEFITS PACKAGE FOR NEW JERSEY SMALL BUSINESS
As a small business owner suffering with double digit health insurance premium increases for my employees, I contacted Senator Menendez to seek his support of the Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act (S.1955) which would have allowed small business to form groups to purchase insurance at the discounted rates that large corporations enjoy.
I was not surprised when the Senator voted with the rest of his party to prevent the bill from becoming law, even though it had majority support. However I was appalled when I received a letter from the Senator espousing the benefits of the bill as if he supported it.
In his letter he said, “As you may know there are an estimated 1.2 million New Jerseyans – and 46 million Americans – who are uninsured and those numbers continue to rise. Most people in the Untied States who have health insurance obtain it through their own and a family member’s employer as a workplace benefit. Unfortunately, small business owners are far less likely to provide health insurance to their workers, and almost half of the uninsured in America are employed by small businesses. This is a serious problem facing our health care system and I believe Congress has a responsibility to support small businesses, the engine or our economy, so that they can afford to offer the health insurance their employees need.”
Well, I do know that. What I don’t understand is why since the Senator apparently also knows it too, why he would vote against the bill. Why would he vote against it and then try to lead me to believe that he supported it?
I was disappointed that the Senator did not support me and thousands or other New Jersey small business owners in providing better and more affordable health insurance to our employees. Worse, I am deeply offended by his duplicity and his distain for the intelligence of his constituents.

...lifetime Menendez pal and highly politically connected attorney, Donald Scarinci, verbally muscling a psychiatrist and former FBI informant, Dr. Oscar Sandoval, into rehiring another psychiatrist, Dr. Vincente Ruiz (who Sandoval had previously fired) to be a full partner with him in working on Hudson County contracts for psychiatric care.
On the tape, Scarinci is clearly heard requested this all as a favor to Bob Menendez. The implication of Scarcini’s "request" was that if Sandoval didn’t go along, he ran the risk of losing those Hudson County contracts....
Although Menedez has now "severed ties" with Scarinci; it seems like even he knows it is just a matter of time before the next "shoe" drops. Trochilus notes with disdain this New York Times story which basically hands the Senate to the Democrats (stay home, likely Republican voters! No need to cast your vote!!); seems like they are ignoring the Menendez story, as well as the meltdown of Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Black Businessmen Raise Funds for Talent, Give McCaskill "F" on Issues
Republican Sen. Jim Talent continues his push to make inroads with black voters. A group of African-American business leaders held a breakfast fundraiser for Talent this morning at the offices of Midwestern Construction Company in old north St. Louis.
While Talent made only a couple of indirect mentions of his Democratic challenger, State Auditor Claire McCaskill, his supporters took a more direct approach. Darryl Jones held up a glossy poster which read: "...Let's See Claire's Report Card", an answer to the NAACP's report card which is often referenced by McCaskill supporters.
On this report card, paid for by Jones and Kirkwood, McCaskill scored F's in three categories relating to black St. Louis and an F minus in the more general "Fighting for Our Communities" category (click here to see the card).
It's hard to tell if these black businessmen are actually in agreement with the Republican agenda or just have a sense which way the political winds are blowing, and are staying tight with present and future Senator Talent.
But if McCaskill cannot even drum up strong support within what is supposed to be her "natural" base, then the candidacy is doomed, as is Menedez's, as is the liberal fantasy of retaking the Senate come this November...
UPDATE: Looks like the Times knows its place; here's a puff-piece on Menendez (the Cuban angle; it's always about race...sigh...) that paints him as heroic and his Republican opposition as simpleminded conservative racists (gee, that's a new twist...). One interesting nugget, however:
...the money raised in Florida for his current campaign amounts to almost as much as Mr. Kean has raised over all from political action committees in this race.
The Times tells us this is not important, because -

Lou Dobbs, Senator (D-NJ)?
Did Lou jumped, or was he pushed, and now that's he's off the crooked ship CNN, what's next?
Maybe taking on his philosophical antipode, New Jersey's senator Bob Menendez (D-La Raza)? NJ.com reports on the speculation that's running rampant:
It did not take long for political observers to start speculating on former Cable TV personality Lou Dobbs' future after he quit his CNN gig. He is already being portrayed as the obvious choice to oppose the re-election of U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-Hoboken, in 2012.
Dobbs is a New Jersey resident who has some definite get-tough immigration policy views, which some reports say is, among other things, what caused the rift between himself and the more liberal members of CNN. Menendez is seen as a champion of immigrants having been born to Cuban immigrant parents in New York.
While Dobbs is considered an independent, it is not hard to see the Garden State Republicans making him a candidate for Senate. Menendez has even taken the first shot, calling Dobb's exit from CNN "addition by subtraction."
Menendez (D-Illegal Immigrants) is famous in New Jersey for his moral and financial support of La Raza (literally translated as "The Race"), a radical group of Hispanic nationalists that have openly declared their desire to fight for their ethnic supremacy (with your tax dollars, provided by Menendez). Think Dodd might have something to say to the people of New Jersey about that?
Menedez has also advocated heavily for illegal immigrants, despite the fact that his home state is drowning in a sea of red ink (and blood, and more blood) due to a government that cares more for the well-being of illegals than its taxpaying citizens. Not to mention the fact that Menendez has been willing to hold up Democratic legislation over Cuba policy; which is not a bad thing, but a strange thing for Menendez to stick his neck out on, when the residents of New Jersey are in need of so much more.
And it's not as if Menendez is anywhere near popular; polling over the summer shows him suffering with all groups; unable to get over 50% with blacks and over 40% with Hispanics:

Liberal orthodoxy aside, I'm surprised that Menendez cannot see that even his Hispanic constituents realize that his policies are hurting them more than helping them, as the legal immigrants are forced to pay, via Menendez's taxes, for the health and welfare of those who cheated the system.
Again - Menendez is the polar opposite of Dobbs, and with the electorate in a "throw the bums out" mode (especially in Jersey), a free-markets, secure-borders libertarian may be exactly what New Jersey is looking for, and with independents holding sway now in the state, this may be Dobbs best chance to win an election.
Lord, it wouldn't be easy. Shoot, the New Jersey media painted Chris Christie, a corruption-busting prosecutor, as less Harvey Dent and more Two-Face. Imagine what they will do with Dobbs.
But Dobbs, thanks to CNN's ideological purge, now has a cool $8 million in the bank. And that can buy him time, and breathing room, and the ability to get his message out over the media din.
Run, Lou, run. If nothing else - it would sure be fun!

Hmmm....Menendez Seat Now Only "Leans" Democratic?
And that's from the New York Times, no less. Via MMM, we see that Nate Silver now classifies Bob Menendez's (D-La Raza) Senate seat as one of two races nationally that have shifted in favor of Republicans:
In New Jersey, Robert Menendez, a Democrat, has middling approval ratings and is below 50 percent in the polls against the most likely Republican nominee, State Senator Joseph Kyrillos. Mr. Kyrillos would need to catch some breaks to win the race — his fund-raising has lagged Mr. Menendez’s so far, and he might need Mr. Romney to be more competitive in New Jersey than Republican presidential candidates have been in recent years. Still, there is a plausible path to an upset, and so we now classify the race as Likely Democrat rather than Safe Democrat.
Some commentary from the polling:
Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez leads State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, the Republican challenger, 45 - 35 percent...
Independents back Menendez 39 - 33 percent...
Menendez gets a 44 - 30 percent job approval rating...
New Jersey voters have a 37 - 26 percent favorable opinion of Menendez, while 36 percent don't know enough about him to form an opinion. For Kyrillos, 75 percent don't know enough to form an opinion.
Points to ponder:
-A 44% job approval is well "below 50%"...and this in a state with a 600K+ Democratic registration advantage, no less
-only 37% of New Jersey residents have a "favorable opinion" of Menendez? Sweet Zombie Jesus, even Newt Gingrich laughs at those numbers!
-after two terms, 36% of those polled don't know enough about Menendez to form an opinion? Talk about a lack of marketplace penetration, one that can be easily exploited by a canny opponent...
-75%o of the locals have no idea who Joe Kyrillos is. Which means he can, given enough time and money, shape that opinion, assuming he moves faster than Menendez
-Chris Christie is a powerhouse political figure in New Jersey. He will stump for Kyrillos, and help raise money for him ($600K so far). Another guy who knows a bit about money is helping out Kyrillos. Goes by the name of Mitt Romney....
And we haven't even gotten into the stench of cronyism and corruption that surrounds Menendez like dirt follows Pig-pen...(much more here)

Senator Menendez to be Subpoenaed?
Interesting, if true:
Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez told The Associated Press Wednesday that he has not been subpoenaed in any federal investigation, a claim Republican opponent Tom Kean Jr. continued to maintain.
"There is a subpoena that has his name on it that was issued by an impaneled grand jury and delivered by the FBI " Kean said during an interview with the AP. "That's a fact."
In a separate interview with the AP later Wednesday, Menendez denied Kean's claim. No federal agency has publicly said Menendez has been subpoenaed, and a Menendez campaign spokesman said Kean has no proof to make such a serious accusation.
"There are no such subpoenas to my knowledge whatsoever," Menendez
The U.S. attorney's office has issued a subpoena seeking records from the North Hudson Community Action Corp. related to a lease agreement it had with Menendez, who rented a house he owned in Union City to the group, and also helped the nonprofit organization obtain federal funds.
Well, I hope Kean is right about this - and not just because I loathe Menendez - because if this turns out to be untrue, then it allows the Democrats to paint all of the well-documented ethical issues dogging Menendez with the same "another false Kean accusation" kind of brush. One thing is certain - Menendez has the AP in his corner; the above-linked article highlights his denials and pays no attention to the actual subpoena issued in regards to the Senator's earnings of over $300,000 from the so-called "North Hudson Community Action Corp."
Let's go to the videotape! Over at Enlighten New Jersey, they've got video of Menendez's appearance on ABC's This Week, during in which he acknowledged being under federal investigation, and his later denial of the existance of the nvestigation during a recent candidate debate.

Bob Menendez Blocks Obama Judicial Appointee? What's The Catch?
Bob Menendez has on occasion done the right thing for the wrong reasons. But Menendez (D-Illegal Immigrants) has only one motivation to block this innocuous appointment.
Vengeance.

Menendez doesn’t have the guts to say why he is using a federal form of senatorial courtesy. But, here’s a clue: She worked in the U.S. Attorney’s office from 1989 through 2003 — including two stints as chief of the criminal division. Her former boss, Chris Christie, endorsed her. She was close to assistant U.S. Attorney James Nobile who oversaw an investigation of a local charity with ties to Menendez.
[Sidebar: Menendez was cleared of all wrongdoing, after Christie left the Attorney's office, by his replacement, one Paul Fishman. Menendez supported Fishman for the job, by the way. In private practice Fishman represented Jon Corzine’s gal pal/union queenpin Carla Katz, as well as developer Encap Golf Holdings, both of whom also were investigated by Christie's office. Upon taking the U.S. Attorney's job, Fishman declared there was no "culture of corruption in New Jersey, and that it was "demoralizing" to even say such a thing. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, including Chris Christie's 200-0 record convicting public figures of misdeeds while he was New Jersey's US Attorney...]
Well, it might be. But Senator Menendez has his own personal pique to look out for, first and foremost. Vengeance must be served on Chris Christie, even if it is via an innocent woman. Then he'll move on the serving the people of New Jersey, eventually...depending on their skin color and ethnic heritage, of course.
And as a secondary benefit to Menendez, it puts all current employees of Justice on notice: If you want a career path, don't you dare delve into the corruption of liberal Democrats. Just look the other way, and sue big corporations for hefty settlements that can be disbursed to my friends and allies...
UPDATE: Even the New York Times is a bit stunned by the audacity here:
...the connection has led lawyers and judges in the state to speculate that Mr. Menendez is acting out of resentment, rather than any concern about Judge Shwartz’s qualifications.
“Every lawyer in the world will tell you that she’s extraordinarily qualified, a decent person and an excellent judge, and would be an asset to the circuit,” said Tom Curtin, the chairman of the lawyers’ advisory committee for the United States District Court for New Jersey. “This was going to be words and music for her, then something happened.”

Bob Menendez Critical of Bi-Partisan Democrats
Is it because when Democrats talk about "bi-partisanship", what they really mean is "stop arguing with me and just do what I want?"
Well, maybe if he actually represented New Jersey voters, instead of illegal immigrants and La Raza, folks would pay him more mind. Which would not be a good thing for Bob Menendez. While Jersey has traditionally been a blue state, it has been drifting towards the center as residents are getting crushed by some of the nation's highest taxes and are sick of seeing their hard-earned dollars wasted on union payouts and non-productive schools.
New Jersey's Senator Bob Menendez (D-La Raza), a mediocrity if there ever was one, is now sticking his nose into local state politics, and demanding that New Jersey legislators stop coming to agreements with Governor Chris Christie:

Smart New Jersey Democrats - as in the ones who want to keep their day job - are well advised to keep their distance...

Newark Star-Ledger Spreads Wide For Bob Menendez
As More Monmouth Musings puts it:
After hiding out in the bowels of the Capitol and the hills of Afghanistan for most of February, Senator Bob Menendez came out to New Jersey’s press yesterday with school kids as prop.
But - in classic Obama-style - Menendez (D-La Raza) put the muzzle on his lapdogs:
Staff aides for Menendez urged reporters to stay on topic during the call, and to contact them later with any questions, like those about his relationship with the Florida eye doctor, Salomon Melgen — a friend and major campaign contributor whose offices were raided by the FBI in January.
With the ground rules in place, inquiries about round-trip flights to the Dominican Republic on Melgen’s private jet, and Menendez reimbursing the doctor $58,500 for two of them two years later, were not front and center.
Neither were disclosures that the senator came to the aid of Melgen before federal agencies, or accusations that the doctor provided Menendez with prostitutes, some underage, at his vacation home in the Dominican Republic
In which Menendez is right:
Asked whether the senator’s packed schedule was intended to rehabilitate his image at home after a month of harsh news coverage, Menendez bristled and said his appearance with the children was part of "Read Across America Day," which he has participated in for almost 20 years.
"And secondly," he said, "I don’t think I need any rehabilitating."
Not with a see-no-evil, hear-no-evil, speak-no-evil New Jersey media, who would rather lie to the people of New Jersey and obscure the horrific doings of Bob Menendez than risk the chance that New Jersey residents might replace him with a (gasp) Republican senator.
Thomas Jefferson:
There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves.
They alone, if well informed, are capable of preventing the corruption of power, and of restoring the nation to its rightful course if it should go astray.
So what can one accomplish with an uniformed citizenry? The New Jersey media knows...
And why do I pick on the Newark Star-Ledger in my post title? For the opening of their pre-censored article on Menendez's staged appearance:
Of all the adjectives used to describe Sen. Robert Menendez — wonkish, intense, diligent — the words soft and cuddly have rarely found their way into the discussion.

Staff aides for Menendez urged reporters to stay on topic during the call, and to contact them later with any questions, like those about his relationship with the Florida eye doctor, Salomon Melgen — a friend and major campaign contributor whose offices were raided by the FBI in January.
With the ground rules in place, inquiries about round-trip flights to the Dominican Republic on Melgen’s private jet, and Menendez reimbursing the doctor $58,500 for two of them two years later, were not front and center.
Neither were disclosures that the senator came to the aid of Melgen before federal agencies, or accusations that the doctor provided Menendez with prostitutes, some underage, at his vacation home in the Dominican Republic
In which Menendez is right:
Asked whether the senator’s packed schedule was intended to rehabilitate his image at home after a month of harsh news coverage, Menendez bristled and said his appearance with the children was part of "Read Across America Day," which he has participated in for almost 20 years.
"And secondly," he said, "I don’t think I need any rehabilitating."
Not with a see-no-evil, hear-no-evil, speak-no-evil New Jersey media, who would rather lie to the people of New Jersey and obscure the horrific doings of Bob Menendez than risk the chance that New Jersey residents might replace him with a (gasp) Republican senator.
There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves.
They alone, if well informed, are capable of preventing the corruption of power, and of restoring the nation to its rightful course if it should go astray.
So what can one accomplish with an uniformed citizenry? The New Jersey media knows...
Of all the adjectives used to describe Sen. Robert Menendez — wonkish, intense, diligent — the words soft and cuddly have rarely found their way into the discussion.
Actually, there are a lot of other words that find their way into discussions of Bob Menedez ("corrupt" being the most common). They just never seem to make it into Star-Ledger, though....

Bob Menendez (D-La Raza) Shames New Jersey, Again...
...man, this guy is just the worst, and his act has worn thin in New Jersey. And with the emergence of a statewide independent/Republican voting coalition - the one that helped put Chris Christie into office - Menendez's star, never a bright one to begin with, is crashing not with a flame, but with an insipid whimper.
I strongly doubt that comparing those who oppose his agenda to al-Qaeda is going to help his standing in what we can fairly call Purple Jersey, but Menendez does it anyway:
Following several hours of floor speeches hammering the GOP, a handful of Democrats including Sens. Bob Menendez (N.J.), Charles Schumer (N.Y.), Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Jack Reed (R.I.) and Jeff Merkley (Ore.) attacked Republicans in a press conference, repeatedly using the word “hostage” to characterize the status of middle-class tax cuts.
“Do you allow yourself to be held hostage and get something done for the sake of getting something done, when in fact it might be perverse in its ultimate results? It’s almost like the question of do you negotiate with terrorists,” Menendez said when asked whether he and other Democrats would accept a compromise with Republicans.
“The majority has a responsibility to get something done, but [also] to get something done that is good for the country,” he added.
..which apparently means it has to be done without compromising with the Republicans, because that would be the equivalent of bargaining with terrorists. Which is horrible, of course, unless a Republican is president, in which case it is an honorable alternative to war.
Bob Menendez may be the Senate equal to soon-to-be ex-Congressman Alan Grayson at this point. He's dreadfully unpopular in New Jersey; an attempt to recall him as Senator made its way to the State Supreme Court before being blocked by a 4-2 vote (shocking for a liberal court), and recent polling showed him more than a bit underwater:
Voters are evenly divided on New Jersey's two U.S. Senators, giving Sen. Frank Lautenberg a split 43 - 44 percent approval rating and giving Sen. Robert Menendez a slightly negative 38 - 41 percent score.
"Sen. Robert Menendez is said to be getting into gear for his 2012 campaign. He'd better. Not only did Democrats lose Bergen County, right next door to Menendez' Hudson County home, on Election Day; he gets a slightly negative job approval measure..."
A 38% approval rating for a Democrat in New Jersey? He's deep in the swamp, lost in the Pine Barrens, broken down on the Turnpike. In other words, he's finished. With little hope for 2012, what's left for Dirty Bob, besides rhetorical bomb-throwing, racism, and hateful slurs against your political opponents, and in effect, your own constituents?
Expect it to work as well for Menendez as it did for Grayson. Bye-bye, Bob. But remember - there's always a place for you at the Council of La Raza...

New Jersey Senator Menendez: Liberal Racist, or Conservative Hawk?
Intellectual lightweight and proud New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is causing a stir in Congress these days, 'cause he's not getting his way on issues that may effect 0.001% of the state he allegedly represents. Let's go to the loathsome TPM for details:
Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), a strong supporter of the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba, is launching a full-on battle this week to remove several provisions from the 2009 government spending bill that would open a small crack in the slammed door of relations with Havana.
Menendez fired a broadside at the Obama administration yesterday for backing a provision buried in the $410 billion spending bill, which must become law by next week in order to keep the government running. The New Jersey senator, a Cuban-American, objects to language in the bill that would allow Cuban-Americans to visit relatives on the island once a year and end limits on the sale of American food and medicines in Cuba.
Menendez even suggested yesterday that he might oppose the spending bill if the Cuba provisions were not removed, saying in a floor speech that they "[put] the omnibus appropriations package in jeopardy, in spite of all the other tremendously important funding that this bill would provide.''
Well, I have to admit a bit of ambivalence here. While I do not approve of normalizing relations with a country as despotic as Cuba, the fact is that 50 years of embargo have achieved absolutely nothing. Perhaps flooding the island nation with dollars would accomplish more than starving them? And, after all, their love of American automobiles is well-known, and who could use a boost more than the Bg Three? Like with Russia, perhaps the best breakthrough can occur not with bluster, but with cash, Levis, and MTV....
But Menendez takes the hard line here, likely because he believes it is what his constituents want. And when I say "constituents", I refer to the Hispanic population of New Jersey - both legal and illegal - beacuse these are the only people he has worked for since being appointed/elected.
Wonder how the remaining 99% of New Jerseyans would feel if they knew that Menendez forced a $473K earmark into the "stimulus" bill to support anti-American Hispanic hate group La Raza ("The Race") while simultaneously voting to raise our taxes? Wait, don't answer that....
Now here's where he pisses off TPM, and gets a laugh from me:
Menendez's effort is no longer confined to the spending bill. The WaPo reports today that the senator has held up two Obama science nominees in an attempt to twist the arms of his fellow Dems...the nominees Menendez has chosen to hold are pivotal presidential allies in the push to regulate carbon emissions -- and Menendez has been admirably outspoken about the need to act on climate change.
Sorry, let me amend my previous statement: He works for Hispanics and "eviorn-mental-ists" only, the other 99% of his constituents can go to hell. After all, what are they gonna do? Vote Republican? Bwahahahaaha!
But of course, he's doing the right things - standing against the spending bill and the fallacy of global warming - for the wrong reasons (simply to soothe his illegal immigrant base). He'll cave and vote the way he must, eventually - he's a good little socialist foot soldier who will do what he can to throw his state and nation under the bus for the greater cause. But at least - for a brief, shining moment - he's actually representing me.
Bet he's not even aware of it himself...

Senator Menendez Touts Lame-Duck Amnesty
I guess it's no surprise that the shame of New Jersey, Senator Bob Menendez (D-La Raza), is openly optimistic about passing amnesty for illegal aliens...after his party gets their clock cleaned in the upcoming elections:
I think the time to get it done is in November, right after the elections. I'm being very pragmatic. I think there are a bunch of people who are retiring who would cast votes (because) their heart and their intellect tell them it is the right thing, but their politics might have told them no. They are free to cast votes that we might not normally get. I think it's a propitious time to get something done if we have presidential leadership. That's what I said to the president two weeks ago when I was at the White House with him.
Well, yeah, they'll be lots of people "retiring", if that's the word you wish to use, this November. It's interesting that Menendez is admitting that there's no chance of granting amnesty without doing it in an underhanded way - by having it voted on by lame-duck Congressmen no longer representing the American people. It's also an admission by our racialist Senator that there is no popular will behind the amnesty movement, or else it would not have to be achieved in legislative darkness...kind of like passing one version of the health care reform bill on Christmas Eve, and the other half on Sunday, and then using the reconciliation process to pass it into law, a process for which it was never intended.
But Menendez is all about illegal immigrants, the way Pelosi was all about health care reform, and the ends justify the means, even if the means are shredding the Constitution. Here's another telling remark from Menendez (D-Illegal Immigrants):
The issue of immigration reform to Latinos is the civil rights issue of their time.
Just like health care! Is this the only narrative the Left has??
The funny thing is that I don't believe this is true at all. Latino citizens of the United States (let's call them ...Americans...) are just as peeved about illegal immigrants as any white guy in Arizona with a bandanna and a gun. When I talk to Hispanics living in New York, they tell me they have no patience for illegals, as they usually will pile in ten to an apartment that holds four, are often involved in crime, and, once they have a foothold, bring in more of their own, creating dangerous situations for the law-abiding families that are their neighbors. And the thought of giving them amnesty enrages our Americans of Hispanic descent even further, as they feel this would allow those who broke the law to "cut the line" ahead of those who followed the rules and waited their turn.
But I guess I talk to real Hispanics, while Menendez talks mostly with radical Hispanic organizations, ones that are more interested in increasing their membership and political power than doing the right thing by all Americans, including the people they claim to represent. Menendez is a guy who, in the middle of the worst financial crisis since the depression, found a half-million in taxpayer funds to slush over to Hispanic radical group La Raza (The Race); he also held a book signing at their DC headquarters. He put a "hold" on legislation to reauthorize the E-Verify workplace verification program back in July of 2008 until he could get more breaks for illegals. And no matter how much innocent blood was spilled by illegals in New Jersey, Menendez never said a word, but instead fought for them, while his constituents were left to fend for themselves.
Bob Menendez (D-Racialists) does not represent New Jersey at all; he represents the worst that liberal thought can produce - a man who knows better than his constituents, a man who sees everything through the prism of race, and a man who will use any means necessary -even granting 12 million illegal residents citizen status overnight - to install a progressive regime, and to increase his own power.
Menendez is toast in 2012 -asssuming he can survive a recall by the fed-up citizens of Jersey..

New Jersey's Misery, Part One...
...of what will become more than an occasional series. Parkway Rest Stop channels Enlighten New Jersey nicely:
The state of the State is horrible.
Free-spending, tax raising democrats, their loyal tax-taking democrat-voting minions, and government corruption at all levels that has made our state a national joke have resulted in what I fear to be an economic doomsday for this state.
Enlighten New Jersey points out:
Since Democrats took control of Trenton in 2002, state spending and taxes have increased by 35 percent and debt has ballooned by a whopping 214 percent. New Jersey's population has grown by less two percent, while the number of state government workers has increased by more than 20 percent. The increase in all public-sector jobs in New Jersey has been increasing at the rate of 9 percent .
I have lost count of how many young, educated people I know who have left Jersey because they simply cannot afford to live here.
As I have said before, the only hope I see is to vote every single state, county and local incumbent politician out of office...
The corruption "at all levels" is the worst problem; some of the run-ins I have had with some of the township police (and their court systems) are reminiscent of the nastiest tales told out of third-world banana republics. Currently, incumbent Senator Robert Menendez, appointed by Governer Jon Corzine to his seat, is the latest New Jersey pol to find himself in hot ethical water - via Fausta:
Federal investigators have subpoenaed records of a rental deal between U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and a non-profit agency in Union City, launching a criminal investigation that is sure to rock New Jersey's hotly contested Senate race...
...The action comes two weeks after The Star-Ledger reported that Menendez collected over $300,000 from the organization over a nine-year period while he represented Hudson County in the U.S. House of Representatives. During that period, he also helped the agency win millions of dollars in federal funding.
How bad is it? Menendez, running as an anti-war Democrat in an anti-war blue state with a $7.5 million dollar war chest, is running behind challenger Tom Kean Jr. But he's just another Dem in Denial:
"It's a competitive race only because of my opponent's surname," Menendez said last week over coffee and eggs at one of his state's trademark diners.
Uh, OK Bob, if that makes you feel better...meanwhile, the party must feel pretty desperate to play the race card in early September:
Others think Menendez's surname -- and the state's growing ethnic mix -- may be factors, too. "I'll be blunt. It's not a nice thing to say about New Jersey, but being a Latino may be costing him in some parts of the state," says David Rebovich, a political scientist at Rider University. That view is shared in this diverse community, part of a congressional district Menendez represented for 13 years before joining the Senate in January.
You want to vote Kean because you thing Menendez is just another corrupt Jersey Dem? NO, it is because you are a filthy racist, that's why! So cleanse your guilt, and get your ass in the voting booth and pull the lever with the "D" next to it, or else we'll tell everybody what darkness lies within your soul!
I don't believe this type of psychological bullying is gonna fly in Jersey this year....

In Which I Agree With Bob Menendez (D-La Raza)
Well, let's hope Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavalet didn't rape any women or molest any children while the Feds were biding their time. I know, I know, that's not the important thing. The important thing is that the Demcorats retained control of the Senate, and if women and children need to be sexually violated for that to happen, well...there are always sacrifices at the alter of the liberal cause. Just ask Mary Jo Kopechne. Rather, ask her parents...
On MSNBC to defend himself, Senator Menendez had an odd comment in response to this latest scandal:
Menendez said Sanchez’s arrest “does speak volumes about why we need comprehensive immigration reform, because we can’t know who is here to pursue the American dream versus who is here to do it damage.”
The second part of his sentence is what conservatives have been screaming about for years, only to be called racist for it. It is the major reason we need immigration reform, comprehensive or not.
So see that? I actually agree with you, Senator Menendez. Here's a few thoughts on how it might be accomplished:

-allowing police to raid homes suspecting of harboring illegals
-allowing police to question the immigration status of suspected illegals during traffic stops
-a speeded-up deportation system
-more funds for ICE
-no state or federal benefits for anyone of questionable immigration status
-make "sanctuary cities" illegal, punish such localities with cutoff of federal funding
Do you think Senator Menendez would go along with any of this? Let's check his record:
Sen. Menendez (D-N.J.) has put a "hold" on legislation to reauthorize the E-Verify workplace verification program....

And here he is in 2010, after Democrats lost control of the House, asking for lame-duck members to pass amnesty:
I think the time to get it done is in November, right after the elections. I'm being very pragmatic. I think there are a bunch of people who are retiring who would cast votes (because) their heart and their intellect tell them it is the right thing, but their politics might have told them no. They are free to cast votes that we might not normally get. I think it's a propitious time to get something done if we have presidential leadership. That's what I said to the president two weeks ago when I was at the White House with him...
So let us be clear. Bob Menedez (D-Illegal Immigrants) is full of shit when he ties "comprehensive immigration reform" to "dangerous" illegals. His version of immigration reform is a nation swamped with "legal illegals", who will line up for benefits, which will be provided for by raising taxes, and will thus create a constituency that will vote Democratic for generations.
And while I can't prove it, I have little doubt that Menendez knew that Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavalet was an illegal, but put him on staff anyway, as a personal "f*ck you" to both conservatives and the rule of law. Either that, or - under the rules he wants us all to live by - he refused to ask Zavalet for any proof of identity whatsoever (to do so would be raaaacist!), and thus unwittingly harbored a deranged sex offender.
Thus our future under Democrats: Asking questions gets you labeled and perhaps fined by the government, refusing to ask gets your sister raped.
Not a whole lot of this in the local New Jersey papers, by the way. Just like Dirty Bob's dalliance with foreign hookers (whom he allegedly underpaid - hey, do as I say, not as I do!) seemed to vanish in less than a day.
But I heard that somewhere, a Republican farted, and the New Jersey media are all over it, and about to file a stunning report on its allegedly racist odor...
