Muslim Student Kills Jewish Professor...

Although you wouldn't know it from the media reports:

A Binghamton University professor is dead tonight after being stabbed by an anthropology student.

A witness tells Action News that an older male graduate student entered the office of professor Richard Antoun and then stabbed him.

.... It was an anthropology grad student who was doing middle eastern studies I believe," said BU Senior Devin Sheppard.

A statement from the University:

"This afternoon, in an act of senseless violence, the Binghamton University community lost one of its long-time faculty members...

Switch B-U with Ft. Hood, and faculty with soldiers, and one could have been describing another tragedy, no?

Here are the
facts the Binghamton media ( or the "Bing-a-lings", as my sister, a B-U grad, was apt to say) is trying to hide from you:

Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Binghamton University Professor Richard T. Antoun.

What can we learn about Professor Antoun? Well, he was the author of “Understanding Fundamentalism: Christian, Islamic, and Jewish Movements”. I guess that's enough provocation for any Muslim to hack him to death, right? If that's not enough,
there's this outrage:

Prof. Richard T. Antoun was a Jewish convert, through his wife in Binghamton NY, in the Reform tradition. Prof. Richard T. Antoun had a Muslim grand-father and a Catholic grand-mother on different sides of his family, his parents were married in a civil ceremony in Brazil and then in a Methodist Church when they came to the USA, he has had varied links to many religions including the Quaker and the Catholic Church but appears to have settled on Judism in Binghamton NY.

An apostate.....

But it's Professor Antoun's killer who sounds like just the kind of guy that Barack Obama and the Democrats would feel sympathy for:

The two apartment-mates of the man charged with stabbing a Binghamton University professor to death on Friday said Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani was confrontational, argumentative and “acted like a terrorist.”

....“He claimed he was persecuted.”

Just like poor Major Nidal Hasan, Mr. Al-Zahrani is the victim here, and like the dead soldiers at Ft. Hood, our unlucky professor is simply collateral damage caused primarily by anti-Muslim prejudice, which obviously permeates every level of American society. These defensive actions by Muslims in America can only be stopped by more outreach, understanding, and submission.

There's your spin, boys. Run with it....

My worldview is as such that I believe that a certain percentage of any population or of any faith is prone to fundamentalism - its part of human nature. As a psychologist, I'm sure you have come across the studies that discuss the psychological make up of terrorists or vigilante killers. There is one study by Professor Reuven Vaisman-Tzachor which demonstrates that these individuals normally stem from a group of personality types and repeating population sub groups independent of religion as a controlling factor. However, what is interesting is that the religion may act as the channel of how the fundamentalism is expressed. That is not to say or undermine the fact that external factors, such as incitement, a feeling of being oppressed, fundamentalist ideologies, and a religion can cause this kind of behavior.

My only problem with this blog is that it seems to imply somehow that fundamentalism is a uniquely Muslim phenomena as opposed to a problem found in all societies and religious traditions. All religious traditions, including Judaism, contain fundamentalist streaks - and a history of suicide attacks against innocent civilians as well as against individuals that don't agree with their particular ideology.

I don't think it gets us anywhere by creating a whole website dedicated to demonizing an entire faith instead of demonizing a kind of behavior or a kind of action against an innocent person.

I just spent an entire semester studying the Nuremberg Trials and the Nazi Holocaust. What struck me is how human the perpetrators of the Holocaust were. Growing up, for me, the Nazi's were always some abstract and distant evil people but we forget that they were human beings who committed one of the worst crimes in human history. One of the many morals of the Nazi Holocaust is that human societies, even the most advanced can commit evil atrocities when they are not checked by the forces of good and the power of righteous ideas. Bigotry and the dehumanization of others, the holocaust teaches us, is the first step towards removing the humanity of others which can ultimately genocide.

This blog is a gross simplification of the problem of Muslim fundamentalism. Not all Muslims are guilty. But the Muslim world is guilty, at least until very recently, of not reigning in its fanatics and fundamentalists. Hopefully they will do so in time before those fanatics consume all of us - Muslims, Jews and Christians.

One of my favorite poems, written by a Polish Priest, which I'm sure you have seen, deals exactly with this issue.

"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me."

We do not see Jewish students murdering their Muslim professors. We do not see Christians of any stripes blowing up Muslim schools. As a matter of fact, the Judeo-Christian population almost never resorts to violence in response to a perceived offense or to further its cause; Muslims do both.

Goldstone Receives Human Rights Award

You remember that pesky Goldstone Report right? The one that “has unleashed worldwide criticism of Israel…….. some countries are challenging Israel’s right to exist”? The one that “the U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning…..lawmakers approved the symbolic measure by a vote of 344 to 36”? You remember, the one that over 90% of our democratically elected House of Representative lawmakers decided to officially discredit, dismiss and overwhelmingly condemn because it was critical of Israel?...

One of the most notorious and controversial events of current conflict between Israel and the Palestinians was the April, 2002 Israeli invasion of Jenin Refugee Camp. For weeks, the Israeli army assaulted the camp with helicopters, tanks, bulldozers, and troops. Almost immediately, reports began to trickle out of Jenin about massive human rights violations occurring in the camp.

Deception Has Always Been The Name Of Zionism's Game

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu described his offer to temporarily restrict construction of all-new Jewish settlements on the West Bank excluding Arab East Jerusalem as a “far-reaching and painful step”, which was part of a policy he hoped would give a new impetus to peace talks.

Netanyahu is not stupid. He knows that some of us know he is not remotely interested in peace on terms the Palestinians could accept. So what then is his real game plan of the moment? Simple. He is seeking to make peace with the Obama administration. And its response suggests that with the help of the Zionist lobby and its stooges in Congress he’s got that matter firmly under control
