Easy to fret about global warming when you've got nothing else to fret about; but when the economy is collapsing all around you, and food, shelter, and gas are no longer taken for granted but are items that are becoming difficult to obtain, well....one worries less about a 0.00000001 degree change in temperature, no?
GE, which owns NBC Universal, which owns The Weather Channel, is more concerned about its own day to day survival than about Boomer propoganda. So they did the right thing, even if it was for the wrong reasons:
NBC Universal made the first of potentially several rounds of staffing cuts at The Weather Channel (TWC) on Wednesday, axing the entire staff of the "Forecast Earth" environmental program during the middle of NBC's "Green Week," as well as several on-camera meteorologists.
The timing of the Forecast Earth cancellation was ironic, since it came in the middle of NBC's "Green Week"...
Forecast Earth was hosted by former CNN anchor Natalie Allen, with contributions from climate expert Heidi Cullen. It was the sole program on TWC that focused on global climate change, which raises the question of whether the station will still report on the subject. Cullen's future role at the network is not known.
NBC should have axed this show due to the falsity of its content. They should have axed this show since it had no place on a station devoted strictly to hard weather data and news. And finally, they should have - but didn't - axe Heidi Cullen, who is the Keith Olberman of The Weather Channel. I wrote a long post about her and the fall of TWC back in January 2007; the reason for my disdain and disgust with Cullen is easily understood:
The Weather Channel's (TWC) Heidi Cullen, who hosts the weekly global warming program "The Climate Code," [now "Forecast Earth?-ed.] is advocating that the American Meteorological Society (AMS) revoke their "Seal of Approval" for any television weatherman who expresses skepticism that human activity is creating a climate catastrophe.
Should you read the aforelinked post, you can see I lost my love for TWC a while back, but NBC - by keeping Cullen - is making the same mistake they did with MSNBC by elevating opinion and commentary over news and facts. This niche network will not survive ownership's mismanagement or Cullen's hyping of a non-existant threat - a threat that has little resonance in a nation preocuppied with the possible scarcity of basic necessities.
Well, at least they canceled "Forecast Earth", and with delicious timing. They displayed the hypocrisy of the global warming scam while getting rid of one of its principle propoganda organs. Again - the right thing, even it it was for strictly economic reasons....God bless marketplace forces, huh?
