Yeah, I picked against them in the office pool this week, and yeah, they're my favorite team, but I know them well enough (from loving them so long, I guess) to say they are virtually a lock to let me down when the stakes are high, like a potential first-place battle on the road against Buffalo.
But how 'bout those Jets? Squeaked out a tough victory despite being almost a 6-point underdog (sound familiar?)....which leads me to an amazing discovery - and the thought that maybe the stakes involved here were even greater than I ever imagined:
In the six years when the Jets won less than five games before Election Day, the Democrats won five electons, but when the Jets won five or more games before Election Day; the Republicans won the White House every single time.
Today is the last game for the Jets before Election Day. They went to Buffalo and won, 26-17. With that win, the Jets went to 5-3 on the year, hitting the five-win threshold.
Einstein famously said that "God does not play dice with the universe".
But maybe he likes to bet on football.
And maybe right now, in His wisdom or in one of His grand jests, he is ordering things in the cosmos so that all is properly aligned come the day after 'morrow...
Looks like we got a sure thing for our six-point underdog, John McCain! Put yer money down now, and fleece those suckers that are betting Obama and giving the points...
