Obama-McCain: Tied; Even Without Bias Accounting
For what it is worth, via the AP Poll:
Two weeks before the election, McCain and Barack Obama are essentially running even among likely voters.
The poll put Obama at 44 percent and McCain at 43 percent among those voters who are considered likely to vote on Nov. 4. The survey supports what some Republicans and Democrats privately have said in recent days: that the race has narrowed as Republicans drift home to their party. McCain's "Joe the plumber" analogy also seemed to strike a chord...
As soon as the NYT sees this, they'll cook up a new poll, showing Obama with a 19 point lead...

Sure, it can demoralize enough Republicans that - combined with massive voter fraud perpetrated by Obama's ACORN buddies - Barack can win the 2008 presidential election. Of course, overconfidence by believing said crooked polls can lead to problems, as well. For one, it looks like Ed Rendell is starting to sweat out in Pennsylvania just a tad:

...it is obvious that the prevailing culture in this limited part of the country has an undue influence on the focus applied by these polling groups. Democrats, especially liberal democrats, are over-represented in the poll reports because the culture of New York and Northeast America over-represents liberals. Republicans, especially conservative republicans, are suppressed in the poll reports because the culture at the polling groups’ headquarters suppresses republican opinion.
....it’s not at all hard to imagine the conversations between headquarters and the staff at these polling groups. They like Obama and expect him to win, so – what a surprise! – the polls they control reflect that same attitude.
It's all in how you ask the question. Having never been polled, I don't know firsthand, but institutional bias is a scientific fact. I cannot believe that Liberals in a liberal state can conduct an evenhanded poll in such passionate circumstances.

... if they were skewing the results to make it look as if Obama was ahead when actually McCain was ahead, then a McCain victory would come as a huge and terrible shock -- a gut-wrenching one that would be bad for the country, because people would think that either McCain "stole the election" or else the voters were a bunch of dishonest "racists" who "lied" to pollsters.
That wouldn't be fair at all. Because the more dishonest the polls were, the more they'd help convince voters that an Obama victory was inevitable (thus helping Obama), and more dishonest any McCain victory would appear to be (thus inflicting maximum damage on McCain if he managed to win).
Yup. A nation torn asunder by a media that fed them nonstop lies. While some trumpet a 10 point Obama lead, others make certain realities clear:

Defining "Rich" Down...
...well, Paul Krugman did just win a Nobel Prize, so let's - for this once - give him the benefit of the doubt, shall we?
What about the claim, based on Joe the Plumber’s complaint, that ordinary working Americans would face higher taxes under Mr. Obama? Well, Mr. Obama proposes raising rates on only the top two income tax brackets — and the second-highest bracket for a head of household starts at an income, after deductions, of $182,400 a year.
But I thought Obama said he was only going to raise taxes on those making $250K or more? Surely, The One would not...mislead us, would he?
Krugman actually tells one more inadvertant truth in his column; is he becoming more honest in his post-Nobel life?

She's taking the story of Tito Munoz - an immigrant owner of a small construction firm, who simply wants to live the American dream without being punished via regressive taxation - and slamming it back in Obama's socialist face:
“Tito is not pleased with how the Barack Obama campaign and some of the media friends there have been roughing up Joe the Plumber,” Palin said, after accusing the Obama campaign of “investigating” Wurzelbacher’s background.
“He has a question of his own, and Barack Obama is not going to like this one either. Tito wants to know, and I quote, he asked, ‘Why the heck are you going after Joe the Plumber? Joe the Plumber has an idea. He has a future. He wants to be something greater. He wants to be something else. Why is that so wrong?’”
“Tito explained that he’s an immigrant from Colombia and he also had this reminder for us,” Palin continued. “He says, quote, ‘Everything is possible in America. I made it.’”
Not in Barack Obama's America.

Obama arrived at the barbecue joint around 12:30 p.m., where an older and majority white clientele of several dozen were eating lunch after church services. Many patrons applauded as he walked into the diner, but Diane Fanning, 54, began yelling “Socialist, socialist, socialist — get out of here!”
Yet, the majority of these ignorant racists seemed to have well-thought out reasons for their lack of genuflection before the Messiah:
Lenox Bramble told Reuters’ pooler that he wasn’t voting for Obama because he didn’t think he had enough experience. Bramble’s wife, Kit, 75, said after meeting Obama, “He was very nice,” but added she’d been a conservative Republican since Barry Goldwater’s era and said she wouldn’t vote for Obama.
Fanning said she’d heard that former Secretary of State Colin Powell had endorsed Obama but said that “Colin Powell is a RINO, R-I-N-O, Republican In Name Only..."
Pastor Bremer... said that he would pray for Obama but that he planned to vote for McCain, mostly because he prefers smaller government and McCain’s position on the Iraq war. He thinks there have been important gains in Iraq, and “I don’t want to see that damaged by a premature pullout.”
Seems like reasoned, rationale decision making by informed citizens, no? Uh, no, if you believe our mind reading pool reporter and absorb his slanted adjectives:
But some of the other older white diners looked surprised and slightly uncomfortable as Obama stopped at their tables to shake hands. “I’m surprised, but I’m not going to say anything else,” said Pat Smith, who was joined by her husband.
I take it she's surprised Obama would look for votes in a conservative stronghold such as Fayetteville, NC (and wouldn't McCain get flack if he campaigned hand-to-hand in Haight-Asbury? Flack, at the least. Spittle, most likely. Media reports would claim he brought it on himself...). But our intrepid reporter prefers his unspoken analysis, that Pat Smith was "suprised" because Obama dared to show up where the white folk were at.
Evidence? None.
Not necessary, when the assumption fits the narrative.

"That Obama strategist knows how much depends on the whole Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emanuel approach —work with the media to demoralize conservatives, and keep the perception of a juggernaut going. But a day or two of a few bad polls, and that strategy backfires. The conservatives know they've still got a shot at this."

According to the Cato Institute's Fiscal Policy Report Card on America's Governors:
Three governors were awarded an "A" in this report card--Charlie Crist of Florida, Mark Sanford of South Carolina, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Eight governors were awarded an "F"-- Martin O'Malley of Maryland, Ted Kulongoski of Oregon, Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, Chet Culver of Iowa, Jon Corzine of New Jersey, Bob Riley of Alabama, Jodi Rell of Connecticut, and C. L. "Butch"Otter of Idaho.
Some details, most of which are painfully familiar to residents of the Garden State:
Grade: F
Took Office: January 2006
Governor Corzine's first budget proposeda spending increase of more than nine per-cent and large increases in sales, cigarette, and vehicle taxes. The enacted budget raised taxes $1.9 billion and included an increase in the sales tax rate from 6 to 7 percent, with half the increased sales tax revenue used for property tax rebates.
Not to mention the nation's highest property taxes as well...
Maybe Obama's tax hikes will lessen the sting of Corzine's rake-off, making them look small and petty in comparison.
Amazing how New Jersey's delegation to Washington, be they our intellectually bereft Senators or our Obamafied Congressmen, can vote unthinkingly for more federal tax burdens on top of what our state already strong-arms from its citizens. They think we work for their means, and if they should dream up with some inventive new social program that we simply cannot do without, why, we exist simply to pay for it! Our needs must be subserviant to their spending desires, no matter what the cost to our standard of living!
Well, we deserve it, 'cause we vote 'em in, time and time again. Soon to be relegated to third-world status, we can expect an imminent bankruptcy with intermittent power blackouts on empty roads too expensive to drive on. All in the name of a more liberal Jersey. And through it all, they Democrats will be so proud...just like they are of Detroit.

Amazing how New Jersey's delegation to Washington, be they our intellectually bereft Senators or our Obamafied Congressmen, can vote unthinkingly for more federal tax burdens on top of what our state already strong-arms from its citizens. They think we work for their means, and if they should dream up with some inventive new social program that we simply cannot do without, why, we exist simply to pay for it! Our needs must be subserviant to their spending desires, no matter what the cost to our standard of living!
Well, we deserve it, 'cause we vote 'em in, time and time again. Soon to be relegated to third-world status, we can expect an imminent bankruptcy with intermittent power blackouts on empty roads too expensive to drive on. All in the name of a more liberal Jersey. And through it all, they Democrats will be so proud...just like they are of Detroit.

...wait until the Baracky and the Democrats allow George Bush's tax cuts to expire. It's a great sleight of hand; by letting the cuts simply "expire", they are not actively "raising" tax rates, it can be argued they were due to "sunset" anyway. Note how the subject is never even brought up....

Oh, there is some anger at those McCain campaign rallies these days...however, it is primarily directed at the media. Mr. Tito Munoz showed up in Virginia the other day to give the Democratic sock-puppets a lesson in civics:
After McCain left, as the crowd filed out, Munoz made his way to an area near some loudspeakers. He attracted a few reporters when he started talking loudly, in heavily-accented English, about media mistreatment of Wurzelbacher. When I first made my way over to him, Munoz thought I was there to give him the third degree.
“Are you going to check my license, too?” he asked me. “Are you going to check my immigration status? I’m ready, I have everything here. Whatever you want, I have it. I have my green card, I have my passport — “
I was a little surprised. Did Munoz really bring his papers with him to a McCain rally? I asked.“Yeah, I have my papers right here,” he said. “I’m an American citizen. Right here, right here.” With that, he produced a U.S. passport, turned it to the page with his picture on it, and thrust it about an inch from my nose. “Right here,” he said. “In your face.” Munoz said he owned a small construction business. “I have a license, if you guys want to check,” he said.
Someone asked why Munoz had come to the rally. “I support McCain, but I’ve come to face you guys because I’m disgusted with you guys,” he said. “Why the hell are you going after Joe the Plumber? Joe the Plumber has an idea. He has a future. He wants to be something else. Why is that wrong? Everything is possible in America. I made it. Joe the Plumber could make it even better than me….I was born in Colombia, but I was made in the U.S.A.”
The scene turned into a mini-fracas when David Corn, of Mother Jones, defended press coverage. Munoz was having none of it. Why, he asked, would the press whack Joe the Plumber when it didn’t want to report on Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber? “ How come that’s not in the news all the time?” Munoz said. “How come Joe the Plumber is every second? I’m talking about NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN.”
A black woman with a strong Caribbean accent jumped in the fray. “Tell me,” she said to Corn, “why is it you can go and find out about Joe the Plumber’s tax lien and when he divorced his wife and you can’t tell me when Barack Obama met with William Ayers? ..... A news release referred to "a toll-adjustment plan." Oh, come on, Governor. The people know a toll hike when they see one. Calling it something else doesn't make it easier to swallow; it just makes it look like you think people are stupid.
How much will the tolls be adjusted? Well, let's look at how much the state is already giving away:
On Friday, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority approved a toll-adjustment plan that dedicates $1.25 billon to the Access to the Region’s Core project...
That's only gonna be a spritz in the bucket of spending, if Corzine really gets the "adjustment" he is looking for:
The toll road plan anticipates $32 billion to $38 billion would be raised through the sale of bonds backed by contractually established toll increases. From 2010 to 2022, tolls would be increased four times. Each increase could be as high as 50 percent, in addition to an inflation adjustment.
After 2022, toll increases would be limited to inflation adjustments and would continue for the duration of the plan, 61 years.
Maybe Jon can call on Bart Simpson to save they day, once his plan goes horribly askew?
Because of America's massive debt, Lisa meets with the countries to whom money is owed. This does not go well, until Bart shows up and uses his skills at stalling debt collectors to save the day...

Rush Limbaugh on the Powell Endorsement...
As I said below, Colin Powell can endorse whomever the heck he likes, it was just his rationale (or his sanity?) that I was questioning...Rush Limbaugh, however, goes a bit further, and I will present his take as well:
"Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race," Limbaugh wrote in an e-mail. "OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with."
As for Powell's statement of concern this morning about the sort of Supreme Court justices a President McCain might appoint, Limbaugh wrote: "I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making him a four-star [general] and secretary of state and appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let's hear it for transformational figures."
Is it all about race? So it is OK to ditch your principles, if you are a black person switching to support Obama, but a white person choosing McCain is racist for not abandoning his principles?

Stressing that Obama was a lifelong Christian, Powell denounced Republican tactics that he said were insulting not only to to Obama but also to Muslims.
Actually, it is the Democrats who are injecting race into to the campaign on a daily basis, Colin, not the Republicans (see here - you cannot say "welfare" any longer, it is a racist slur! True!). Regardless, I never saw a General before who claims that being called names is worse than being hit by sticks and stones...maybe that's why he was such an "effective" Secretary of State?
And it seems as if he still is infected with the State Department's see-no-evil philosophy as well:

Saigon Shakes, Bangkok Shocks, but Sarah Rocks!
Sarah Palin draws a crowd of 20,000 to Noblesville, Indiana (just a tad more than Obama's showing the other day, I reckon), winning hearts and minds in Obama's backyard. Seems like there's plenty of swooning here too, it just doesn't get reported, because, well, she's...Sarah Palin:
Despite traffic snarls outside and long lines to get into the venue, those who listened to Palin's remarks said she did not disappoint them.
Judee Sweet, 72, Carmel, said Palin was "absolutely impressive" and would help ensure Indiana once again will vote Republican in November.
"We Hoosiers know what we want, support what we want, vote for what we want, and we want Sarah Palin and John McCain," said Sweet, wearing a homemade moose hat in honor of Palin, who has said she enjoys moose hunting.
"They're saying we may be a purple state, but when all the wash water is thrown out, we're a Republican state. Just look around!"
David Gross, 20, Lafayette, said Palin and McCain's message will resonate with Hoosiers more than Obama's ....Gross, a student at Purdue, also said the concerns Palin raised about ACORN are crucial.
"It's really a very hazy subject right now," he said. "It's very important, and we need some answers."
In the end, Palin spoke for 30 minutes on the Verizon stage, one usually reserved for rock stars. Afterward, she spent just as long shaking hands with supporters as country music played on the venue's sound system.
So...how's that Palin smear campaign working out for you guys in the media? Just about as well as the lynching of Joe the Plumber, I'd say.

"At least in Europe, the Socialist leaders who so admire my opponent are upfront about their objectives," McCain said in a radio address. "They use real numbers and honest language. And we should demand equal candor from Sen. Obama. Raising taxes on some in order to give checks to others is not a tax cut; it's just another government giveaway."
Love it! "Europe/Socialist/Admire my opponent"....by bunching those words/phrases together, he creates an image of Obama that, while 100% true, will drive the Democrats absolutely batsh*t crazy. So crazy that they might make a mistake that can blow the election? Yeah. McCain knows just how hard to pull the tiger's tail...
Next, he busts out the big W:
McCain has argued that 40 percent of Americans don't pay income taxes, either because they are seniors or don't meet minimum earnings thresholds, so the only way to cut their taxes is to give them various credits.

Expect the media to get hypercrazy about how McCain is "going negative", desperately producing rigged polls intended to discourage these lines of argument, then coming out with "fact checks" that twist reality in a feeble attempt to discredit McCain. (The AP article linked to here is already on that, finding one McCain policy that dares offer a credit, while throwing in a gratuitous slur against Joe "the plumber" Wurzelbacher)

The Messiah is Here to Change the World!
Presidential candidate/motivational speaker/cult leader/unrepentant Socialist....whatever he is, he spoke in New Hampshire yesterday...using phrases soon to be inscribed in The Book of the One, to be chanted on future Sundays:
....much of Mr Obama's speech in Londonderry - punctuated by cries of "We all love you Obama", "I love you" and "We will work with you" - was devoted to the kind of quasi-religious sentiments and motivational-coach style exhortations, the kind of pride that set him up for a big fall in January.
"I want you to believe," said the candidate, clad in an open-necked shirt and barn jacket. "Not so much believe just in me but believe in yourselves. Believe in the future. Believe in the future we can build together. I'm confident together we can't fail."
There was a carnival atmosphere among the crowd of some 4,000, who almost drowned Mr Obama out as he reached his crescendo and said: "I promise you. We won't just win New Hampshire. We will win this election and, you and I together, we're going to change the country and change the world."

Pretty smug, for a guy who's only about two points up in the polls....man, if he doesn't walk on water on the way to his inaguration, I will be sorely disappointed....
You'd almost think people weren't interested in who the other guy was...oh, wait, so how did this happen?
....much of Mr Obama's speech in Londonderry - punctuated by cries of "We all love you Obama", "I love you" and "We will work with you" - was devoted to the kind of quasi-religious sentiments and motivational-coach style exhortations, the kind of pride that set him up for a big fall in January.
"I want you to believe," said the candidate, clad in an open-necked shirt and barn jacket. "Not so much believe just in me but believe in yourselves. Believe in the future. Believe in the future we can build together. I'm confident together we can't fail."
There was a carnival atmosphere among the crowd of some 4,000, who almost drowned Mr Obama out as he reached his crescendo and said: "I promise you. We won't just win New Hampshire. We will win this election and, you and I together, we're going to change the country and change the world."

Da Polls, Boss! Da Polls!
No wonder the Obama campaign is freaking out about Joe the plumber, trying to rig the vote in Ohio, and calling in its media allies to dispirit the Republican base...the polls, they just don't look as good as some people make it out to seem:
AP/YAHOO Poll of 873 Democrats; 650 Republicans shows OBAMA 44%, MCCAIN 42%...
GALLUP POLL LIKELY VOTERS STAY 49 OBAMA, 47 MCCAIN FOR SECOND DAY...
Look at the numbers in the AP poll...it assumes a 57%-43% turnout advantage for the Democrats (2006 had a 39%-36% turnout advantage for the Donkeys) and still Obama can't close the deal; his tiny 2% margin is well within the margin of error. Remember, based on the primaries, Barack always won significantly less votes than his polling numbers indicated.
Enjoy the lobster and cavier, B&M. Could be back to Kraft Mac & Cheese by November 5th...

....or, as past royalty has said (perhaps with different emphasis): "Let them eat cake".
The New York Post reports:
While he was at a meeting at the Waldorf-Astoria at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Michelle Obama called room service and ordered lobster hors d'oeuvres, two whole steamed lobsters, Iranian caviar and champagne, a tipster told Page Six.
That meal is between $300 and $400 dollars, depending on the type of champagne the Obamas were bathing themselves in.
Nice to see they are enjoying themselves in such fine style in Manhatten, while the rest of Americans he plans to raise taxes on are lucky to be able to afford a family night out in McDonald's these days....
Just don't call them elitists!
