AP: Health Care to Cost Just a Little Bit More....

Well, the actual headline is Report: Health costs up slightly under Senate bill.

And by slightly, do you mean exponentially?

As Leonard Nimoy once said, while guest-voicing on
The Simpsons:

"The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is...no."

Here's what's hidden in the AP's story:

Americans would see only a modest rise in health care costs under the Senate's plan...At the same time, however, some of the Senate's Medicare savings could be unrealistic and cause lawmakers to roll them back...

Among the remaining sticking points are whom to tax...Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders that they must drop their opposition to taxing high-end insurance plans to pay to extend coverage to millions of uninsured people...

Saturday's report cited this tax on "Cadillac" health plans, as well as reductions in annual increases to Medicare providers, as having potential to hold down costs. But the authors were skeptical that Congress could stand the political fallout, noting that the Medicare cuts "may be unrealistic."

So IF we tax "Cadillac plans", which no doubt most employer-provided health plans would be qualified as (and as such provide the backbone of middle-class heath care), AND we cut Medicare to the bone (a middle class safety net), we would still see a RISE in the cost of heath insurance.

So - how does Obamacare work? By making health care for the middle-class unaffordable, and either pushing them into plans of lesser quality or forcing them into some type of "public" plan, while defunding Medicare, the ultimate fallback of the aging middle-class citizen...

In other words, it forces the middle class to pay for health care reform while denying them any benefits that may arise.

The Democrats, President Obama, and the AP seem to feel that destroying what little security the middle-class has left in these turbulent times is a fair price for socializing medicine. I am not sure Americans, though, feel the same way....
