Sarah Palin: Ugly Liberal Rage Roundup

Every day, the bile gets worse, with Barack Obama (who I saw in NYC today, waving out the window of a black Suburban to a handful of relatively disinterested onlookers) conducting the braying mobs with a knowing smirk.

Some of the worst has been presented by Salon:

Sarah Palin and her virtual burqa have me and my friends retching into our handbags. She's such a power-mad, backwater beauty-pageant casualty, it's easy to write her off and make fun of her. But in reality I feel as horrified as a ghetto Jew watching the rise of National Socialism.

She is dangerous. She is not just pro-life, she's anti-life. She is the suppression of human feeling and instinct. She is a slave to the compromises dictated by her own desire for power and control. Sarah Palin is untethered from her own needs and those of her family, which is in crisis, with a pregnant daughter, a son on the way to Iraq and a special-needs infant.

Celebrity Idiot #1: Deepak Chopra:

She is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his idealism and exhorting people to obey their worst impulses. In psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of "the other."

That must have made a lot of sense while you were gazing at your chakras, Deepan Pizza....

Celebrity Idiot #2: Roger Ebert:

Sarah Palin's travel record is that of a hopeless provincial. ... Palin is a shallow, chirpy person with those vaguely alarming eyeglasses. Now her fans all want a pair. Remember back when women wore glasses that departed their ears in plastic swoops and swirls? My theory is, anyone who wears glasses that look weird is telling me something I don't want to know.

Ye gads, she's provincial? Gee Roger, did you monocle fall into your champagne flute when you thought that one up?

Finally, the absolute bottom is here, so ugly I may delink it, so nasty it may wind up disappearing. If you want to see the spiritual descendants of Josef Goebbels and Dr. Mengele, the darkest part of the human heart, then go, but be it with a steel stomach (Gee, thanks Erica, for making me puke).

I'm done for now. On the eve of 9/11, I wonder if in fact that day was not also the beginning of the complete unhinging of the Left...as they saw their worldview collapse in a pile of rubble and screaming pain, unable to admit the errors of their philosophy, they instead turn to hatred and rage (primarily against their fellow Americans) to blot out the doubts.

Look for them tomorrow, celebrating the anniversary with Obama by apologizing to Muslims eveywhere for our misdeeds...

"She is the reverse of Barack Obama...".

Exactly, Deepan.

I'm terrified by all the crazy rage and hate I'm hearing from liberals about Palin. I'm for common sense; I'm fiscally conversative and in favor of individual choices in reproduction and marriage.

Most of my friends don't know where I stand because I keep a pretty neutral attitude. I'm also a journalist and am surrounded by liberals in my work, and I make sure to keep my mouth shut about politics, because I find that anything less than rabidly liberal is not tolerated among journalists.

From the day Sarah Palin was introduced to the nation I've received a series of apoplectic e-mails, petitions and columns from friends all over the country, spitting fire, nails and rage at this woman. Most are from liberal moms.

Most of the senders assume I share their point of view: automatic HATRED of this woman. Because I've never taken an extreme view of either side, I don't hate Sarah Palin. I don't hate Barack Obama.

But I'm beginning to really wonder about what underlies the rage of liberal females. It's si ferocious, almost psychotic. Anti-Palin women are reacting to something I can't fathom. They tell me she's anti-woman, a creationist, anti-choice, etc., etc., but I don't feel even the tinest threat to my lifestyle from her. She's anti-woman yet she may hold the highest-ever elected office any woman has ever held in America? I'm supposed to believe she will singlehandedly reverse all the gains women have made in my lifetime?

I can't help but think that the more extreme the reaction against Palin, the greater the odds of a McCain-Palin victory.
