Attack in Venezuela

The story of the U.S. Ambassador William Brownfield's convoy being attacked in Venezuela broke a few days ago -

The ambassador's convoy was pelted with eggs, onions and tomatoes and chased by motorbikes for some miles by supporters of President Hugo Chavez

- but thanks to Fausta, we finally find out what the "root cause" was behind this assault:

The Beeb showed US Ambassador William Brownfield handing out baseball equipment to some kids in a poor neighborhood and being confronted by a man who told him all Americans should leave Venezuela.

Brownfield stated that he "accepts the right to protest and to assemble, and to demonstrate, and of freedom of expression" while rejecting violence. " I reject the right of a group telling me with whom to get together to converse", explained, and added that his job is "to try to project a positive image of the country and people I represent"

Explain to me again why Americans are the root of all evil?

Perhaps you should ask those people who think that all illegal immigrants should leave America...

No, sorry, on reflection that is too obscure for you.

Once again you might like to think about what happened to the newly elected Allende administration in Chile and why it happened, and who was behind the instigation of the military coup.

Or perhaps you could reflect upon what happened in Grenada when they elected a left wing government. Remember that invasion? Was that restoring democracy too?

And why was it that Panama was invaded?

What about Nicaragua and Iran-contra? What was that all about? It sure as h311 was NOT about democracy.

Then you have the unmitigated cheek to ask why America is hated in many parts of the world...

Try answering your question for yourself.

Well, since you mention Grenada...I work with a Grenadian women; both her and her husband were children in Grenada at the time your beloved leftists took over(in a coup, if I recall). They remember 24-hour curfews, militias roaming the streets, chaos and fear.
They both praise America and Ronald Regan effusively. One whom has never had to fight for freedom forgets how precious it is. That's why some Eastern European countries are now stronger allies of the US than Western European nations.
Would you tell my friends they would be better off if America never went to Grenada? They would look at you, look at each other, and laugh uproariously...
Even the Frenh would be denied their anti-Americanism had America not saved them from the Nazis; and even those feckless cowards would think twice before they agree that they would have been better off had they never been liberated...
Want a world without America? Think it would be all peace and clean air and U.N sponsored hand-holding? Yeah, for 15 minutes, until someone else stepped into the power vacuum (nature abhors a vacuum!); and dollars to donuts says it would most likely not be a nation as benevolent as your friendly United States of America!

From Wikipedia...
"The Invasion was opposed by the British government, as Grenada was part of the Commonwealth of Nations, and Queen Elizabeth was head of state as Queen of Grenada. Grenada requested help from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher contacted U.S. President Ronald Reagan, telling him “in the strongest possible terms” that “Grenada was part of the British Commonwealth, and the United States had no business interfering in its affairs.” Reagan assured her that an invasion was not contemplated. Reagan later said “She was very adamant and continued to insist that we cancel our landings on Grenada. I couldn't tell her that it had already begun”. 1

After the invasion, Prime Minister Thatcher wrote to President Reagan:

This action will be seen as intervention by a western country in the internal affairs of a small independent nation, however unattractive its regime. I ask you to consider this in the context of our wider East-West relations and of the fact that we will be having in the next few days to present to our Parliament and people the siting of cruise missiles in this country. I cannot conceal that I am deeply disturbed by your latest communication2
The British government's reaction was considered ungrateful by some Americans, when just a year earlier, Reagan had violated his own Monroe Doctrine to allow Britain to retake the Falkland Islands, without complaint and with the support of American intelligence and weaponry.

The US actions were considered arrogant and unacceptable by many Britons, who saw Reagan as having only a year prior as having sought to obstruct the UK in retaking its sovereign territory in the Falklands which had been invaded by Argentina, then a US-supported dictatorship."

Take your pick.

Interesting that that is the ONLY example that you chose to dispute. What about the others?

"Want a world without America? Think it would be all peace and clean air and U.N sponsored hand-holding? "

Heh yeah right!! The final rebuttal of the ultra-right whinger with nowhere to turn.

They might not be as "good" as America. They might be more honest though.

Come on lad, you should be able to do better than that! THINK boy.

Why did the CIA engineer the overthrow of the Allende government? Why did Hero of the American Nation Ollie North get into Iran-contra?

Yep, the same reasoning as for Grenada.

So, when Venezuela has a left wing government you have the inability to work out why Chavez is a bit more than paranoid about American intentions?

Oh and the emphasis in the WIkipedia quote - yet another self confessed instance of a POTUS who lies, tells porkies, is flexible with the truth...
