The human tragedy unfolding in the hurricane-ravaged New Orleans is just more hate fodder for the Left. Let us begin with America's first and foremost traitors, Air America, and their "star" Randi Rhodes:
This President is never gonna do the right thing. I think somewhere deep down inside him he takes a lot of joy about losing people, if he thinks they vote Democrat or if he thinks they're poor, or if he thinks they're in a blue state, whatever his reasons are not to rescue those people who are (planning?) for their safety."
The Radio Equalizer comments http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2005/09/air-america-talk-hosts-in-nonstop.html :
Would a conservative host get away with similar rhetoric about Democrat leaders? That Harry Reid, John Kerry or Nancy Pelosi hope Republicans are swept away by a hurricane?I s this really the type of program that Orkin and other advertisers should sponsor?
And ex-Clinton dog Sidney Blumenthal has a lot of lies - in Speigel, he says:
In 2001, FEMA warned that a hurricane striking New Orleans was one of the three most likely disasters in the U.S. But the Bush administration cut New Orleans flood control funding by 44 percent to pay for the Iraq war.
Sigh, another Clinton liar. Form the New Orleans Times-Picayune:
February 17, 1995
An Army Corps of Engineers "hit list" of recommended budget cuts would eliminate new flood-control programs in some of the nation's most flood-prone spots - where recent disasters have left thousands homeless and cost the federal government millions in emergency aid.Clinton administration officials argue that the flood-control efforts are local projects, not national, and should be paid for by local taxes.Nationwide, the administration proposes cutting 98 new projects in 35 states and Puerto Rico, for an estimated savings of $29 million in 1996
{get the above, with a great timeline of levee funding, here http://eurota.blogspot.com/2005/09/us-left-all-straws-clutched-every.html}
And our German allies, whom we graciously rebulit after they tried to turn the world into a Nazi hellhole, offered this up (from der Speigel English http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,372425,00.html):
...Apparently the Americans had it coming: "The American president has closed his eyes to the economic and human damage that natural catastrophes such as Katrina -- in other words, disasters caused by a lack of climate protection measures -- can visit on his country." Who wrote this? None other than Jürgen Trittin, Germany's minister of the environment.
At a moment when the dead on the Gulf Coast are still being counted, the German minister of the environment could think of nothing better to do than -- in an essay published Tuesday in the center-left daily Frankfurter Rundschau -- to blame the US itself for the catastrophe. The piece is 493 words long, and not a single one of them is wasted to express any sort of sympathy for the victims of the storm. The worst of it is that Trittin isn't alone with his cold, malicious tenor. The coverage from much of the German media tends in the same direction: If Bush had only listened to Uncle Trittin and signed the Kyoto Protocol, then this never would have happened
The same Kyoto protocal that the Senate voted down96-0? Oh well, there's dead Americans, and the Kraut Nation can barely control its glee. Anyway, No Parasan! provides us with some hurrican pattern charts, apparently, "science-based" liberals are too busy blaming Bush for controlling the weather to do their research - check it out here: http://no-pasaran.blogspot.com/2005/09/angry-left-leaving-no-natural.html. By the way, add this doosy to the timeline:
September 29, 2000 The House approved Thursday a $23.6 billion measure for water and energy programs, with sizable increases for several New Orleans area flood-control projects. The Senate will vote Monday, but it may be a while before the bill is enacted. President Clinton is promising to veto the annual appropriation for the Energy Department and Army Corps of Engineers, not because it is $890 million larger than he proposed, but because it does not include a plan to alter the levels of the Missouri River to protect endangered fish and birds.
I've written on this subject before - enviornmentalism kills...
So - while New Orleans, and large swaths of Mississippi, writhe in agoney, the Left gleefully uses them as just another blunt object to bash George Bush and the Republicans. Maybe they would have more sympathy if New Orleans was a PBS-sanctioned Third World country, or if it were a blue state. Interesting, though, while they look back and claim preventive enviornmental intervention would have saved lives, they viciously oppose us doing the same thing when battling terrorists. And what if we had built a city capable of withstanding 150MPH winds; and the winds gusted up to 160; would that be Bush's fault? Trust me - if, God forbid, a meteorite landed on the Empire State building and crushed it, the Democrats would be blaming the President while the Times searched for a Halliburton angle.
That being said, I do not believe Bush has stepped up to the plate as strongly as he did on 9/11. As a nation watches unthinkable scenes of bodies floating in a dead city, refugee camps being erected, gas prices rising by .50 cents overnight, and the nation's economy shruddering, he needs to speak now with the strength and determination that got the nation through the dark days of post 9/11 America. This is not a local tragedy, it is national, and all Americans grieve for their bretheran and fear for themselves. George Bush absolutely has to do a better job pulling us together than he has done so far.
And special thanks to our foreign friends and allies for all of their help during this crisis. Go to hell, the lot of you...
