So where are we, 11 years later?

Looks like we switched sides...

A statement released today by the US Embassy in Cairo:

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

So 9/11 is now to be used as an occasion to suppress the right of free speech...of Americans. Because apparently, the statement above was prompted by this little riot:

Egyptian protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and pulled down the American flag during a protest over what they said was a film being produced in the United States that insulted Prophet Mohammad, witnesses said.

In place of the U.S. flag, the protesters tried to raise a black flag with the words "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger", a Reuters reporter said.

Once the U.S. flag was hauled down, protesters tore it up, with some showing off small pieces to television cameras. Then others burned remains...

And in keeping with this theme...you would think that this would be an action taken by an enemy of the state of Israel, or perhaps by a "moderate" Muslim leader not wishing to anger his supporters before a rubber-stamp election. Well...you'd be right:

The White House declined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request on Tuesday to meet U.S. President Barack Obama during a UN conference in New York at the end of the month.

An official in Jerusalem said that the prime minister’s office sent the White House a message stating that although Netanyahu will spend only two and a half days on U.S. soil, he is interested in meeting Obama and is willing to travel to the U.S. capital specifically for that purpose. The official added that the White House rejected the request and said that at this time Obama’s schedule does not allow for a meeting.

The White House’s response marks a new low in relations between Netanyahu and Obama, underscored by the fact that this is the first time Netanyahu will visit the U.S. as prime minister without meeting the president.

Barack Obama may have killed Osama bin Laden, but he's certainly keeping his dream alive.

I suppose if you think this is what so many Americans have fought and died for - to send Israel adrift among her enemies, to empower the Muslim Brotherhood, and to stifle free speech at home...than I guess you'd just have to vote for Obama, wouldn't you?

I look out my window to where the Towers once stood, then I re-read my own words, and I swear I want to weep...
