Jews Continue To Move Away From Obama

Why?  It's not like he's been hostile to Israel at all, or has shown any signs of overt anti-Semitism.

Oh, sorry - my mistake - see here for Obama's love of Honduran anti-Semites, click here to see him honoring European anti-Semites, over here we have him trying to name Jew-haters to key administration posts, and please let's not forget his 20-year association with the Reverend of Hate, Jeremiah Wright, to whom Jew-baiting was a regular Sunday sport. Some nice photos here with a whole assemblage of Jew-haters.  And this is just a small sample, not even getting into his loathing of one Benjamin Netanyahu...

So this should not be all that surprising...Commentary brings us poll results from the very liberal Workmen's Circle:

Among Jews, the Democratic President out-polls the Republican candidate by 59% to 27%, with 14% undecided.

They are crowing about this, when they should be shuddering.  Obama received 78% of the Jewish vote in 2008.  With the undecided more like to break for the challenger than not, and assuming that some of Obama's poll numbers are always over-inflated for fear of being tagged racist, it is quite plausible that the president will find it difficult to break the 60% mark among Jews.

 Commentary, again:

If, however, the final results turn out to be closer to the 59 percent figure, Obama would receive the lowest percentage of the Jewish vote in a presidential election of any Democrat since Jimmy Carter.

Ah, that name again.  How many states did Carter win in 2008?  Ah, yes - all of six, I believe, plus DC, for what it's worth.  Ideologies have hardened since then, and Romney will not carry California.  But with a big Jewish pullback, he will carry Florida.  And maybe Pennsylvania.  And even...Ohio?

Ohio has far fewer Jews than Florida, but they could play a pivotal role in the outcome of the election there as well. Exit polling showed Romney soundly carrying the counties with large Jewish populations. Nathan Diament, head of the powerful Orthodox Union government affairs office in Washington, D.C., notes that “given the Jews turn out at an 80 percent turnout rate, if you swing the Jewish vote 10 percent in Ohio, that could give you Ohio.” Furthermore, this year the Republican senatorial nominee is Ohio state Treasurer Josh Mandel, a Jewish conservative who has kindled great enthusiasm among his co-religionists. Mandel’s Jewish coattails might carry swing thousands of additional Jewish votes to the Republican presidential ticket.

Wonder how Obama will "court" the Jewish group in the coming months.  With honey and sugar, or...dire warnings, perhaps, about how tough things may get for the Jews in America if they are perceived at having cost Obama the election...
