Look, I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying that's the way it's going to be.
The last week has been a bit of an eye-opener - maybe not to conservatives actively involved in the day-to-day hand-to-hand combat with the Left, but certainly to the rank and file Republicans. The absolute hatred that was vomited up by the liberal intelligentsia upon the death of Andrew Breitbart was shocking to behold and revolting to the consciousness, in its own way on par with those Palestinians who danced, tooted their horns, and handed out sweets upon seeing the World Trade Center collapse into rubble.
Then, too, you have the sage of the "HHS Mandate", and the emergence of one Sarah Fluke. People who had honest concerns about the violations of religious liberty were stunned when they were told their objections made them part of a "war against women". And when the Democrats rolled their Trojan horse (pardon the pun) in the person of Sarah Fluke - not 23 but 31, not poor but part of the educated elite, not innocent but a lifelong gender warrior - into Congress to lie about the cost of contraceptives...well, all hell was let loose. On the heads of conservatives, and even moderates, who thought maybe they shouldn't be forced to pay for a young woman's apparently nonstop need for sexual gratification. There's a name for a girl like that, or a person like that...
...and apparently now we no longer have the freedom of speech necessary to use it.
I think we've hit a galvanizing moment, one that many Americans - not just Republicans - feel in their gut. The Left has won a few victories that may yet by Pyrrhic, and it is only encouraging them to gas up the steamroller and move full speed ahead. And I think there is a general feeling of urgency now, that the game is afoot, and unless we get a player in soon, we'll fall behind too far too early to ever catch up.
So I think that the voters will look at electability, and decide that in this political climate - the ugliest one I have ever seen in my lifetime - that Santorum simply cannot survive the ensuing onslaught, and that Romney, despite his sub-.500 record, is the best man to put in to win at this most critical juncture.
The voters, in doing so, will be sending a signal that it is time for the battle to be joined - not between ourselves, but with the ever-encroaching hate-filled, proto-fascist movement that the Democratic party has become.
A Romney victory will show that the people believe the time for games are over, and It is time for shields to be raised and swords to be clanged.
And that is a good thing...
Same analysis, different conclusion than the conventional wisdom. Newt is the man with the rhetorical chops Ken-doll Mittens lacks.
