...because parents cannot be expected to teach and take care of their children properly, Michelle is going to step in and make sure the government does the job for them. Whether we want her to or not. Because she knows so much better than us about everything, including the best way to raise our children.
The latest attempt by the Obamas to force us to cede our parenting rights to the state are in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (as if the name alone could eradicate hunger) championed by Michelle and signed into law by Barack today:
The $4.5 billion measure increases the federal reimbursement for free school lunches by 6 cents a meal at a time when many school officials say they can't afford to provide the meals. The bill will also expand access to free lunch programs and allow 20 million additional after-school meals to be served annually in all 50 states. Most states now only provide money for after-school snacks. The new law aims to cut down on greasy foods and extra calories by giving the government power to decide what kinds of foods may be sold on school grounds, including in vending machines and at fundraisers.
While the government has long had nutrition requirements for the free and reduced cost meals it subsidizes, the bill would expand those requirements to cover all foods sold during school hours. It does not apply to after-school events. Bake sales and other fundraisers that don't meet the new nutritional requirements would be allowed during the school day as long as they are infrequent. The language in the bill is broad enough that a president's administration could even ban bake sales, but Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has said that he does not intend to do that. The USDA has a year to write rules that decide how frequent is infrequent. Public health advocates pushed for the fundraising language, saying they are concerned about daily or weekly fundraisers that allow children to frequently substitute junk food for a healthier meal.
Yeah, right. When have you met a government official who was given the ability to interfere, and did not use it?
Remember when Obama said if we liked our doctor, we could keep him? Well, if even that key promise of "Obamacare" proved to be false, what hope to we have of keeping our bake sales?
Michelle vomits out a whole load of sh*t to back up her point, including her oft-repeated line that fat kids are a threat to national security. Well, the next time some overweight child gets his lights punched out for being unpatriotic, I suggest the parents sue Michelle Obama for enabling the hate crime.
And speaking of which:
She said it is ultimately the responsibility of parents more than anyone else to make sure their children eat right and get enough exercise, but that government has a role to play, especially when children spend so much of their time each day at school and when many of them get up to half their daily calorie intake from eating school meals. "It's clear that we, as a nation, have a responsibility to meet as well," she said. "We can't just leave it to the parents.
Read that last line over and over. That's what Barack and Michelle really have in mind. For our children to become good socialists, they can't be entrusted to parents who may or may not have the proper mind-set. That's where the parents-in-chiefs take over from us, and make sure our kids are properly "socialized"...
Incidentally - if your kid eats a nice sandwich every day on white bread, and now the school forces him to eat it on wheat, and he refuses because he hates the taste, won't we actually have more hungry kids than before?
Please - the Obamas don't really care about our children, they are stealing their upbringing so that they may feel better about themselves, and kill a few bake sales in the process. Our sicker, thinner kids are just collateral damage to the greater goal of collectivism under their inflated egos.
Wait for the unintended consequences. Don't believe me? Ask the hundreds of thousands of folks who have lost health care since the Democrats so magnanimously passed "reform"...
"...but Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has said that he does not intend to [ban bake sales]."
ReplyDeleteWhew, I was worried there for a minute.

I think whenever you overplay your hand and over-politicize an issue it tends to get kind of funny and sometimes downright silly; which is the inspiration for this video "Michelle Obama warns: Beware of Weapons of Mass Consumption!": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlpbsbLAn28
