And yet another of the miracles of the 2010 primary season is the uncloaking, within the Republican party, of the elitists, the opportunists, of those who have no loyalty to party or philosophy, save that of one: The empowerment of themselves.
Lisa Murkowski - who, we should remember, was originally appointed to her Senate seat by her father Frank Murkowski, Alaska's governor from 2002 to 2006 - apparently is entitled to that seat, despite the voters of her party who feel otherwise. Why? Even she cannot say; or perhaps she fears to look deep enough inside herself to see the ugly truth. Regardless, she is apparently going to mount a write-in campaign against rightful Republican nominee Joe Miller and Democratic candidate 'old what's-his name. Politico reports:
...the senator, en route from Washington, D.C. to Anchorage for her planned Friday evening announcement, phoned supporters from her connection in the Minneapolis Airport to let them know she had decided to mount a write-in campaign.
Murkowski's supporters, meanwhile, have planned an event this afternoon for the senator in anticipation of her planned announcement, which they advertised as a “kick off” for her write-in campaign.
Jack told POLITICO that he received word early this morning that she should start making calls for today’s event, during which the senator would ask supporters to “write in her name and fill in the oval.”
Other supporters forwarded e-mail invitations to the Murkowski event with the slogan, “MUR KOW SKI. See it. Spell it. Write it. Check the box.”
Because she wants to be Senator, don't you see. Because she doesn't believe the people have any right to strip her of her power. Because her need for self-aggrandizement is more important than our need for the democratic system to run its course. Because she is Lisa f*ckin' Murkowski, and that is all that matters, even more than the Republicans losing control of the Senate because of one woman's ego in Alaska.
It's about her. Not the party which has supported her, not the will of the people, and not the future of our nation.
Worse than Mike Castle, who simply went off and sulked in the corner after his loss to Christine O'Donnell. More like Charlie Crist, who left the Republican party after voters rejected his embrace of Barack Obama (which was , of course, expedient at that particular moment).
A lot like Charlie Christ, actually. The two of them should get together, Lisa and Charlie. Their existential nothingness gives them something in common. Maybe they should fuck. They'd be like Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway in Barfly. Or Nicholas Cage and Elizabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas. Empty, soulless vessels, living for the moment, willing to sell themselves to the next highest bidder that comes along, no matter what humiliations it may entail.
We are the better for having exposed Lisa and Charlie, and we will be the better for being rid of them, come November 2nd...
(UPDATE: See RS McCain for the best tweet on Murkowski's write in campaign so far...)
Could not agree more. What a disgrace. It is like she is on a Democratic payroll or something. Just pathetic. It will just make a bunch of us from outside Alaska send money to Joe Miller. She has 1.5 million in the bank. I hope she wastes all of it while millions of Americans and give more money to Joe.
ReplyDeleteLisa Murkowski’s no Crist, either:
ReplyDeleteHe is at least a ruthlessly talented politician/snake who’s actually got his name on the ballot- and started his independent candidacy with a big lead, NONE of which are the case with Murkowski
Now Joe Miller can whip two libs instead of one, as Palin said about Murkowski’s decision yesterday “It’s all good”.
And even Orange Charlie is getting creamed by double digits in the latest poll, so far Rubio had no problem facing two boneheads that support the Obama agenda AT ALL- Miller won’t either, imho.
