Good Luck With VAT, Barack

What will the "value added tax", or VAT, accomplish in America, should it be introduced? It's explained succinctly by Matt Welch in today's New York Post:

The VAT isn’t a way to streamline a complicated tax code; it’s a new spigot to flood money into the pockets of teachers who can’t be fired, and securities regulators who can’t get enough porn...

And Obama really thinks he can enact this with the cover of a "recommendation from the blue-ribbon deficit commission", on which union thug Andy Stern sits? Welch address that as well:

The fact that America’s most influential public-sector union leader is within a thousand miles of a deficit commission, let alone one that is floating the idea of an American VAT, tells you all you need to know about the relationship between any new consumption tax and fiscal responsibility. Which is to say, there isn’t any.

Does Obama remember - or even know - that this nation was born out of a tax revolt? He may as well try to convince blacks of the benefits of slavery, or the Jews of the glory of fascism, for all the luck he'll have....

Well. on the plus side, you'll have the full support of Nancy Pelosi and the New York Times editorial board. On the minus side, you'll have earned the wrath of just about everyone else. Let's see how that works out for you.
