The whole "climate change" scam has been around for a while - after all, what better way for scientists to earn fame and fortune than to claim that global catastrophe is right around the corner?
Guess they must have gotten tired of seeing apocalyptic preachers and sidewalk lunatics get all the money and attention...anyway, here's a Newsweek article from April of 1975; funny how exactly 34 years later, the whole thing sounds so...familiar. With one twist:
There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production – with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth.
The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it.
To scientists, these seemingly disparate incidents represent the advance signs of fundamental changes in the world’s weather. The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down. Meteorologists disagree about the cause and extent of the cooling trend, as well as over its specific impact on local weather conditions. But they are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century. If the climatic change is as profound as some of the pessimists fear, the resulting famines could be catastrophic.....
Change "cooling" to "warming", and this story could have been printed yesterday. There is one important difference:
But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.
Politicians were smart enough to ignore this claptrap back in the '70s, and had enough integrity to refuse to use it to whip up hysteria intended to push people towards a certain social/governmental compact. Not so with the leaders of today. Are they just so much smarter? Are they that much stupider? Or do they now simply work with a governing philosophy best stated as "never waste a crisis"?
Don't ask Barack Obama. Fausta reports that he skipped a meeting with the genuinely honest and often brilliant Czech president Václav Klaus. Could it be because Klaus is a dissident of sorts, who has called global warming a "hoax"?
Klaus speaks, Obama trembles:
"Environmentalism is indeed a vehicle for bringing us socialist government at the global level. Again, my life in communism makes me oversensitive in this respect. The argumentation of various environmentalists is very similar to what we used to know in the past."
"...I am afraid the environmentalists want to rule the world without being capable to earn those trillions because it requires to work very hard."
Klaus pins Obama on every count in these three sentences (especially the "work" part!). He knows it's a scam. I'll bet Obama does too. That's why he's skipping this old ally while in Europe, and is likely making a note to himself to "disappear" all the old references to 'global cooling" made back in the '70s...
