Stupid in Seattle

After a few years of Democratic control, all of America will look like Seattle....frozen in place and unable to move, becaause somewhere, somehow, a little fishie might get hurt.

Think I am kidding? Seattle's streets are packed with snow and ice after an unusually heavy snowfall - caused by global warming, of course - and it turns out that the city's liberal elders want it that way:

To hear the city's spin, Seattle's road crews are making "great progress" in clearing the ice-caked streets. But it turns out "plowed streets" in Seattle actually means "snow-packed," as in there's snow and ice left on major arterials by design.

"We're trying to create a hard-packed surface," said Alex Wiggins, chief of staff for the Seattle Department of Transportation. "It doesn't look like anything you'd find in Chicago or New York."

The city's approach means crews clear the roads enough for all-wheel and four-wheel-drive vehicles, or those with front-wheel drive cars as long as they are using chains, Wiggins said.

The icy streets are the result of Seattle's refusal to use salt, an effective ice-buster used by the state Department of Transportation and cities accustomed to dealing with heavy winter snows. "If we were using salt, you'd see patches of bare road because salt is very effective," Wiggins said. "We decided not to utilize salt because it's not a healthy addition to Puget Sound."

And what about all the accidents that will obviously occur with increasing frequency, resulting in dozens of injuries and even death, due to this policy of putting people last?

Well, I won't cry for you, liberal cattle in Seattle - you voted for this kind of government, so don't complain when your ass hits the ice-covered pavement and sends you skidding foolishly down the street. Just remember, as you slowly get up and limp away - you are liberal, you are progressive, you are superior...

Seattle has educated but fundamentally stupid people who've never lived outside of the area. Reading about, and attending conferences, on managing 'world class cities' doesn't enable the city administration to remove the feces or snow from sidewalks. Seattlelites, pleasant enough for a short conversation, are woefully defensive about their shortfalls. This is a recipe for the disaster that this overrated pioneer town truly is beneath the surface...that is, if you weren't born and raised here...
