Sweet Jeebus, if you fear to tread where the French boldly go (and we ain't talkin' chicks with hairy armpits here), than you've got a serious problem with the size of ya cobblers, you know?
On April 11, French commandos went in with guns blazing and captured a gang of pirates who days earlier had hijacked a luxury cruise ship, the Ponant, and held the crew for ransom. This was the French solution to a crime wave that has threatened international shipping off Somalia; those of us who have been on the business end of a pirate’s gun can only applaud their action.
The British government on the other hand, to the incredulity of many in the maritime industry, has taken a curiously pathetic approach to piracy. While the French were flying six of the captured pirates to Paris to face trial, the British Foreign Office issued a directive to the once vaunted Royal Navy not to detain any pirates, because doing so could violate their human rights.
Wait, it gets stupider:
Somali regional rulers Thursday demanded compensation for civilian deaths they say occurred during a French military operation against suspected pirates last week.
They said three herdsmen were killed during the operation that followed the release for ransom of a 30-strong luxury yacht crew and insisted four of the suspects captured by French troops weren't pirates...
The French, under Sarkozy (and due credit to the French people who elected him by a wide margin; the same people who wisely spit on on the EU "Constitution" in a referendum) are getting tough. Maybe that's what happens when you've had enough of Muslim thugs burning your cities and hijacking your ships.
How much further does England have to go to reach this point? It now has blatant Muslim-enforced "no-go zones" where the nation' s traditonal colors cannot be displayed, its Church leaders have called for the institution of Sharia Law, and their once-fearsome Navy quails before pirates no stonger than the ones defeated by the U.S. Marines at "the shores of Tripoli" back in 1805.
Pathetic, and dangerous. British influence (as well as their "cobbles") will shrink with their continued unwillingness to project their power abroad; can they even hold fast against the rising radical Islamist tide in their own nation, or will they be the first to fall, in a reversal of WW II ?
Of course, this was all presaged in an episode of the Simpsons back in 2003, when Eric Idle observes Bart's fall from schoolyard grace with the following comment:
'Bart’s glory has gone the way of England’s masculinity.'”
Indeed it has....
you didn't mention what a mess they made of Southern Iraq - Basra - and how we had to quell violence as soon as they bugged out of their barracks.
ReplyDeleteNot a job the British military should be proud of. But based on what you are saying, the liberal nanny-statists are emasculating them.
It is funny, the left is cutting their own throat as they cut off their army and Navy's "cobblers".
