...this time from self-loathing Jew Richard Cohen, who regurgitates and endorses every anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic canard espoused by the hatemongers of the Middle East:
The greatest mistake Israel could make at the moment is to forget that Israel itself is a mistake. It is an honest mistake, a well-intentioned mistake, a mistake for which no one is culpable, but the idea of creating a nation of European Jews in an area of Arab Muslims (and some Christians) has produced a century of warfare and terrorism of the sort we are seeing now.
Yes, the nerve of those few surviving pesky Jews to want to simply live in their ancesteral homeland, where they have lived previously for thousands upon thousands of years before the state of Israel was even "created"...
There is no point in condemning Hezbollah. Zealots are not amenable to reason. And there's not much point, either, in condemning Hamas...
So condemn Israel, of course! For existing! What a "mistake"!
There is, though, a point in cautioning Israel to exercise restraint -- not for the sake of its enemies but for itself. Whatever happens, Israel must not use its military might to win back what it has already chosen to lose: the buffer zone in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip itself.
So don't fight back...
....the longest war of the 20th century will persist deep into the 21st. It is best for Israel to hunker down....
..and die.
Cohen is sick, and bordering on racist. What other ethnic group is so viciously derided for defending their right to stay alive? Would Cohen think of saying the same thing about a predominately black nation that was constantly assaulted and abused by neighboring white militants? Unlikely; but liberal theology seems to have plenty of room for anti-Semitism these days...
Sigh...just another terror-lovin' day at the Washington Post...more of the same from this rag here and here.
Update: Best rebuttal to Cohen is from Israel Matzav:
Arabs only came to the Land of Israel in large numbers after the Jews returned in the 20th century and started to rebuild the nation, thereby creating economic and employment opportunities for Arab immigrants.
Prior to 1870, when Jews started to return to the Holy Land in large numbers, there were fewer than 100,000 Arabs living in what is today the State of Israel - including Yesha (the Hebrew acronym for Judea, Samaria and the Gaza District).
Israel is anything but a mistake, and history shows the justice of Israel's cause. With the exception of the period between the two Jewish Temples between roughly 586 and 516 BCE, Jews ruled this land continuously from approximately 1300 BCE until 68 CE. Since that time, no other government has been based in Israel, no other country has called Jerusalem its capitol, and no other people has called this land its home. It is not history that is Israel's enemy but the false narrative of history presented to the World by the Arab Muslims. It is not history that is Israel's enemy, but Arab attempts to wipe out the vestiges of that history, as if destroying all of the Temple artifacts on the Temple Mount will confirm that it was 'always' Haram al-Sharif, that two Jewish Temples never stood there and that Jesus never argued with money changers there.
What say ye, Cohen ?
The only option for Israel: CRUSH the opposition in the most brutal manner possible. This is war! They can either see the blood of their nation slowly seep into the battlefield over a period of years, or they can wipe out all thoughts in the enemy's mind that they can compete on the battlefield.
