The good ladies of Atlanta refused to take donations from that "died-hair woman" who ran a brothel. They knew the money was acquired through dishonorable means, and they refused to be associated with it, even though the money was badly needed for The Cause. In contrast, the well-respected Miss Mellie accepted the donation in a private encounter with Miss Belle. Her reasoning was that the money was given with a good heart and a patriotic spirit, without any expectation of some future favor in return. And the whole town knew that if Miss Mellie approved of something, then that something was above reproach.<br /><br />To stand up for principle today, and to forgo money for doing so, is rare indeed.<br /><br />And you are correct: the Obamas have no respect for the office of the presidency.
